On March 31, 2000, L&J purchased Delavan Process Instrumentation in Naugatuck, CT. is a well-established name in ultrasonic, capacitance and microwave point level and continuous level measurement for liquids and solids. Delavan was relocated to L&J Technologies corporate headquarters in Hillside, Illinois. 4 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Description The CAP-ANALOG/410 system consists of an electronic transmitter mounted in a Cast Aluminum Explosion Proof Housing. This housing normally is integrally mounted on the rear of the sensor probe. Probes are manufactured in a variety of insulating materials and metals. The active length of the probe will vary subject to the specific application of that system. The probe usually is mounted in a vertical position. Normally the probe is threaded into the process with a ¾ or 1" NPT connection. 1.2 Principle of Operation The CAP-ANALOG/410 along with its probe sensor operates as a capacitance sensitive system that converts changes in level to changes in capacitance. After calibration any change in level is recognized and converted to an analog output signal (4-20 ma or 0-10 VDC). The CAP-ANALOG.410 is supplied with two 20 turn, ZERO and SPAN adjust potentiometers. These controls are independent and non-interacting. Remove the contents of the shipping carton and check each item against the packing list before destroying any packing material. 2.2 Mechanical Installation Depending on the size and type of probe selected for use with this device, it may be preferable to mount the transmitter before installing the probe in the process vessel Unscrew and remove the Dome Cover Loosen the two captive flat head screws that secure the mounting bracket to the enclosure Remove the control unit from the enclosure Apply anti-seize type pipe sealant to the upper thread of the probe Thread the probe into the enclosure by hand To AVOID damage, screw a two-foot length of 1" threaded pipe to the side hub of the enclosure to grip while making up this connection. IMPORTANT: FOR HAZARDOUS AREA SERVICE, THE THREAD ENGAGEMENT OF THE PROBE MUST BE A MINIMUM OF FIVE (5) FULL THREADS. CONFIRM THE ENGAGEMENT IS ADEQUATE Insert the RED Banana Plug from the transmitter into the FEMALE Connection on the top of the probe Replace the transmitter in the enclosure and tighten the two (2) captive screws. 2.3 Non-Metallic Tanks When a non-metallic tank is used, a ground return should be installed to provide greater stability. This may be a metal rod installed in the tank or a ground strap fastened to the exterior of the tank. This ground should be fastened to the same earth ground as the instrument. 4

Total loop resistance should not be greater than 600 ohms. 6 3.2 Controls The location of the adjustable controls are shown in Fig. #1. Their description and function are as follows: ZERO Adjustment This 20-turn potentiometer matches the ZERO point of the instrument to the desired process ZERO level SPAN Adjustment This 20-turn potentiometer matches the Full Scale SPAN (upper limit) to the desired upper limit of the process level RANGE Switches ZERO Range - Switch (2) This switch matches the instrument to the specific process Rotate SPAN and ZERO potentiometers fully counter-clockwise 20 turns Adjust SPAN Adjust potentiometer to near center position. Adjust ZERO potentiometer 4 full turns clockwise Connect a voltmeter capable of reading 10 volts DC to terminals 8 and 10. Negative to 8 and Positive to 10. NOTE: (If current meter is to be used, connect as shown on page (6) sketch 1 or 2 as applicable) Turn power ON If reading is greater than 5 volts (greater than 12mA), set ZERO Switch "S2" to its OPEN position. When reading is less than 5 volts (less than 12 ma) leave S2 in closed position. Adjust ZERO potentiometer until voltmeter reads about one volt, then CCW until it just reads zero volts (4mA). Be careful not to have a NEGATIVE reading. Range Dip Switch Position Low Closed High Open Span Range - Switch (1) Range Dip Switch Position Low Closed High Open Raise the level to the desired highest level Set SPAN Switch "SW #1" to its OPEN position. If reading is less than 5 volts (less than 12mA) return SW #1 to its CLOSED position. If reading is greater than 5 volts (more than 12mA), leave SW #1 in the OPEN position Adjust the SPAN Adjust potentiometer clockwise or counter-clockwise as required until voltage reading is 10 volts or current is 20 ma. 3.3 Indicators The CAP-ANALOG/410 without a voltmeter or current meter is a "BLIND" device. An analog or digital indicator may be connected as shown in section Adjustment Proceduress INFORMATION COMMON TO ALL CONITIONS -Zero Adjust and SPAN Adjust are 20 turn potentiometers with slip clutches at both ends Process material must be a minimum of 1" up from probe tip for proper zero setting Set SPAN Switch "SW #1" and ZERO Switch "SW #2" to CLOSED position. SYSTEM IS NOW CALIBRATED. 4.0 MAINTENANCE & SERVICE 4.1 One-Year Product Warranty DELAVAN PROCESS INSTRUMENTAION, control products will be replaced, put in good operating condition, or the purchase price refunded, at the option of DELAVAN, free of charges except transportation, if defective in their manufacture, labeling, packaging, or shipping, and if notice of said defect is received by DELAVAN within one year from the date of shipment. The cost of such replacement, repair or refund of purchase price shall be the exclusive remedy for any breach of any warranty, and DELAVAN shall not be liable to any person for consequential damages for injury or commercial loss resulting from any breach of any warranty. DELAVAN make no warranty of fitness for a particular purpose, and makes no other warranty, express or implied, including implied warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade. 6
