1 Page 1 CHANNELS The services in this section are grandfathered and no longer available to new customers. They are only provided to existing customers of record who subscribe to the services as of the effective date of grandfathering. Except as otherwise indicated, existing installations may be continued at the same premises of the same customer at the rates specified herein. The non-recurring charges contained herein, except as otherwise specified, are subject to the terms and conditions and non-recurring charge treatment in Section 2 of Part A of this Product Guide. 8.1 GENERAL A. SHORT PERIOD TELEPHONE SERVICE* Customers having this service on the day immediately prior to December 18, 1970 may retain it at the same premises for the same periods subject to the monthly rates then in effect. 8.2 CLASSIFICATION AND RATES SERIES 2000/3000 CHANNELS* A. TYPE 2001 CHANNELS Type 2001 channels furnished prior to December 22, 1984 for private line voice grade multi-point service (intra and interexchange) will continue to be furnished to existing customers at the rates specified in In addition, the multi-point service charge (MPA) specified for Type 2002 channels applies. Channels added to existing multi-point channels as of December 22, 1984 will receive the rate treatment specified in Part C, Section for Type 2002 multi-point channels SERIES 7000 CHANNELS* A. DESCRIPTION Series 7000 channels are furnished for the transmission of educational television program material subject to the terms of service outlined in C. following. Channels are furnished in systems of one or more channels as described in B. following. Each channel is equipped for the transmission of video and associated audio material of a single television program at one time. The channels are furnished for transmission of 525 line monochrome signals. The signals comprise 525 scanning lines per frame, interlaced two to one in successive fields, with a frame frequency of 30, a field frequency of 60 and a line frequency of 15,750 per second. * Series 2000 and 3000 Channels are no longer available to new customers in certain exchanges as outlined in Part D. Series 3000 Channels are only available to existing customers as outlined in Part D. (Please refer to Part D for the listing of exchanges, terms of availability and effective date). Short Period Telephone Service and Series 7000 Channel facilities are grandfathered as outlined above and are only available in certain serving wire centers to existing customers as outlined in Part D. Local Distribution System These are furnished within an exchange area and between exchange areas from a signal source to its receiving locations in one direction of transmission only, where the airline distance between the signal source and the receiving locations does not exceed 25 miles. A system consists of: - One to six channels terminating at receiving locations. - Channel input equipment for one to six channels to convert the customer's signals from baseband frequencies to frequencies of approximately 25 to 88 megacycles. - Channel output equipment at receiving locations to deliver signals at standard VHF broadcast frequencies. - Outlet connections for the customer's television viewers with distribution amplifier equipment, where required, and associated building wiring. These connections may be furnished by the customer in which case he/she is required to provide all such connections required within a building. 2. Interexchange System This consists of one to five channels furnished between a signal source in one exchange area and a receiving location in another exchange area where the distance between the signal source and its receiving location exceeds 25 airline miles. Channels in the same system may be furnished in opposite directions of transmission. Channel inputs and outputs are at baseband frequencies. * Series 7000 Channels are grandfathered as outlined on Page 1 preceding and are only available in certain serving wire centers to existing customers as outlined in Part D. General Series 7000 channels are furnished only for the transmission of educational television program material by public or private schools and other recognized non-commercial educational institutions. Special operation and supervision are not furnished. 2. Responsibility of the Customer Station facilities and wiring, other than the items specified in E. following, will be furnished by the customer. The facilities furnished by the customer will include, where required: - Studio equipment such as video cameras, microphones, consoles and monitors. - Television viewers. - Antennas to pick up broadcast television material. - Power, space and supporting structures for Company equipment located on customer premises. The customer will make all arrangements for the necessary authorizations for off-the-air pick up and use for retransmitting broadcast television material to channels furnished by the Company. 3. Interconnections The customer may interconnect at his/her premises, subject to the conditions specified following and those specified elsewhere in this Product Guide, the channels furnished as provided herein: - with each other. - with television systems, either local distribution or interexchange, provided by the customer. Such interconnections may be made only where program material is used for television viewing or for transmission over a local distribution system, and where the customer has adequate personnel in attendance together with the necessary equipment for testing with the Company. * Series 7000 Channels are grandfathered as outlined on Page 1 preceding and are only available in certain serving wire centers to existing customers as outlined in Part D. Local Distribution Systems Rate mileage is the airline distance between a signal source and its receiving locations measured directly or via other receiving locations for twopoint or multipoint channels. The sequence of measurement for channels involving two or more receiving locations is that sequence which will produce the shortest combination of airline mileages, except that where a customer requests that receiving locations be connected in a specific sequence, the measurement will be in that sequence. Where a system includes more than one signal source transmitting to common receiving locations, the measurement is made from one of the signal sources to the receiving locations (for this purpose, the additional signal sources are considered as receiving locations). Where different signal sources transmit to different receiving locations, a separate series of measurements is made from each signal source. Each two-point section of a multi-point channel is considered a separate unit for which mileage is independently measured. All channels are numbered for rate application according to length of rate mileage, i.e., the longest being first and succeeding channels being numbered consecutively in order of decreasing rate mileage. 2. Interexchange Systems Rate mileage is measured between the rate centers for a signal source in one exchange area and its receiving location in another exchange area in accordance with V-H measurements as specified in Part A, Section 9.1. * Series 7000 Channels are grandfathered as outlined on Page 1 preceding and are only available in certain serving wire centers to existing customers as outlined in Part D. TYPES, DESCRIPTION AND TERMS OF SERVICE Series 1000 channels are special signaling and sub-voice grade channels furnished for Half and Full Duplex operation on a two-point or multi-point basis for service 24 hours-per-day, 7 days-per-week for a minimum period of one month. These channels, when furnished for remote metering, supervisory control and miscellaneous signaling purposes, may be used for indicating readings of meters at distant locations, operating switches which trigger some other operation (i.e., alarms, sirens or gauges) or operating special signaling devices of the customer. The inventory of metallic inter-office facilities for this type of service is being depleted without being replenished and, therefore, the Company is not obligated to provide a metallic facility unless such facility is available and not otherwise immediately needed to be carrierized. Type 1011, 4-wire, metallic facilities, if provided, will be provided via two (2) two-wire facilities. The charges for Private Line Teletypewriter Service Lines contemplate the provision of satisfactory operation and transmission between two or more teletypewriters which are directly connected to the line. TYPES, DESCRIPTION AND TERMS OF SERVICE (Cont d) The transmission characteristics and various types of services furnished through Series 1000 channels are set forth below: (Cont'd) These channels are not suitable for the transmission of alternating current tones. - Special signaling and sub-voice service are divided into two basic service offerings--same exchange and interexchange. Same exchange service is divided into two basic rate elements-local channel and inter-office channel. Interexchange service is divided into two basic rate elements--interexchange mileage and local channel. Customers must have at least one local channel for each station location (premises) to connect customer-provided station equipment. - The various Types of local channels are: Type Transmission up to 75/150 Baud. Furnished for remote operation of radio-telegraph, teletypewriter, teletypesetter, data, supervisory control and miscellaneous signaling purposes. For Half (or Full) Duplex operation, two-point or multi-point service, intra or interexchange. Type Transmission up to 30 Baud. Furnished for remote metering, supervisory control and miscellaneous signaling purposes. For two-point or multi-point service, intra or interexchange. - On a service where there are station locations in different central office districts of an exchange, an inter-office channel is required. The number of inter-office channels is equal to the number of different central office districts having a station, less one. Inter-office channels are similar to those local channel Types used to furnish various voice grade services. - Multi-point and multi-station services provide communications capability among three or more station locations constituting a common dedicated communications system, and the following channel Types are used: Type A maximum of twenty stations, where conditions permit. Type A maximum of three (3) connecting central offices or a maximum of twenty-six (26) stations, or both, where conditions permit. * Series 1000 Channels are grandfathered as outlined above and are only available in certain serving wire centers to existing customers as outlined in Part D. DESCRIPTION Series 6000 channels are specially equipped and operated for program transmission in connection with loudspeakers, paging and sound recordings. These channels are furnished exclusively for the transmission (in one direction) of music or speech. Certain terms associated with these channel facilities are defined as follows: Station - Denotes the transmitting/receiving equipment on a customer's premises and connected for channel service. It also includes points located on the customer's premises, other than those controlled by the customer, at which material is transmitted to, or received from a program transmission channel. A point of connection for Company interexchange and local channels is not considered to be a station. Studio - Indicates a fixed premises of the customer in which audio regularly originates for transmission to loudspeakers and, at which location, personnel of the customer are present. This term excludes any locations where the subject matter to be transmitted is not originated primarily for audio transmission purposes. B. TERMS OF SERVICE 1. These channel facilities are the only type furnished by the Company for program transmission in connection with loudspeakers and sound recording. Facilities furnished in connection with exchange access, message telecommunication or private line telephone services may not be connected (1) with program transmission channels or (2) directly or indirectly with loudspeakers or sound recording equipment associated with program transmission channels. Channels furnished in connection with loudspeakers may, however, be connected with paging systems. Channels furnished in connection with loudspeakers and sound recording may be interconnected with channels furnished in connection with radio broadcasting. 2. Program transmission channels, furnished in connection with loudspeakers, may be interconnected to form a network for the distribution of program material to loudspeakers located on a different premises. Interconnection of such channels is made at distribution centers, i.e., Company central offices. 3. Amplifying equipment, provided by the customer and located at the studio, may be used to connect channels furnished under the same or different schedule classifications. * Series 6000 Channels are grandfathered as outlined above and are only available in certain serving wire centers to existing customers as outlined in Part D. All station equipment and station wiring, other than that necessary for the suitable termination of the channel facilities on the customer's (or patron's) premises, shall be provided and maintained by the customer/patron. 5. At a studio, the customer may interconnect the channels furnished by the Company with channels furnished by others, provided such interconnection does not result in direct or indirect connection of Company interexchange channels with interexchange facilities of others for purposes of through transmission, except as specifically provided for below. Furthermore, the interconnection must not interfere with or impair the service rendered by the Company. 6. Company-provided interexchange channels may be connected with interexchange channels operating on frequencies assigned for frequency modulation broadcasting (FM broadcast channels), provided that Company interexchange channels are not connected, via such broadcasting channels, with interexchange channels (AM broadcast channels) of others. C. TYPES 1. Channels Furnished for One-Way Program (Audio) Transmission in Connection with Loudspeakers and Sound Recording Local channels and inter-office channels (same exchange) provide for program transmission facilities: - within an exchange area. - between a station and its serving central office. - between a studio, or a distributing center, and its serving central office. - between a studio and a distributing center if the distributing center is located in the central office district serving the studio. - between a distributing center located in a central office and stations served by that central office. * Series 6000 Channels are grandfathered as outlined above and are only available in certain serving wire centers to existing customers as outlined in Part D. Channels Furnished for One-Way Program (Audio) Transmission in Connection with Loudspeakers and Sound Recording (Cont d) Local channels and inter-office channels (same exchange) provide for program transmission facilities: (Cont d) - between a central office terminating an interexchange channel and the serving central office district of a studio, station and distributing center. - between a studio and station where both are served by different central offices. -- between a station (or studio) and a distributing center where the distributing center is located in a different central office district than the station or studio. 2. Two-Point Interexchange Program Channels Any one of the following arrangements comprises a two-point interexchange program (audio) channel service: - One local channel, with or without an inter-office channel, in an exchange connected by an interexchange channel to another local channel, with or without an inter-office channel, in a different exchange. - One local channel, with or without an inter-office channel, in an exchange feeding a music distribution center in another exchange, with or without an inter-office channel, connected by an interexchange channel. - An interexchange channel, with or without an inter-office channel, connecting music distribution centers. * Series 6000 Channels are grandfathered as outlined above and are only available in certain serving wire centers to existing customers as outlined in Part D. Mileage Measurements Interexchange Channels for Two-Point Service - The interexchange mileage is the airline distance (fractional miles being considered as full miles) between the rate centers of the service points, i.e., exchanges at which connection is made with local channels. The V-H coordinate system of calculation, specified in Part A, Section 9, is used to mathematically determine the distance between rate centers. D. RATE TREATMENT 1. DESCRIPTION The Company will furnish, subject to the availability of facilities, local area data channels suitable for baseband transmission of digital data signals between two points located within the same central office district area. Service is limited to points that are not more than (l) six miles apart with transmission speeds of 2,400 and 4,800 bits-per-second (bps) synchronous or up to 4,800 bps asynchronous, (2) four miles apart with transmission speeds of 7,200 bps synchronous, (3) three miles apart with transmission speeds of 9,600 bps synchronous or up to 9,600 bps asynchronous, and (4) two miles apart with transmission speeds of l9,200 bps synchronous. The channels must be non-carrierized circuits using standard cable routing as determined by the Company where the total cable route distance between the points is no more than the mileage as indicated above. B. TERMS OF SERVICE The following terms of service are in addition to terms of service specified elsewhere in this Product Guide. - Provision of LAD channels is subject to the availability of facilities and does not envision the construction of facilities expressly for this service. - Channels are offered only for balanced transmission of data signals conforming to the signal power limitations and other parameters specified in applicable Company Technical References. - LAD channels require the use of non-loaded cable facilities. In the event only loaded facilities are available, the Company will, at the customer's request, de-load facilities at charges commensurate with the costs incurred, in accordance with the Special Construction provisions contained in Part C, Section 4. * Series 9000 Channels are grandfathered as outlined above and are only available in certain serving wire centers to existing customers as outlined in Part D.
