2 General description STRADA770 1 General description STRADA770 is a single-chip transceiver for automotive radar able of covering the frequency band from 76 GHz to 81 GHz in order to be compliant for all the radar applications. STRADA770 requires minimum external components i.e. external crystal oscillator and stabilization capacitors for the embedded LDO, but it can be used also with an external clock reference. It can be operated by a single power supply at 3.3 V thanks to integrated LDOs or with dual supply for better thermal performances. The device consists of: Three single ended transmitters Four receivers with single-ended RF inputs Fully configurable via SPI interface The transmitter part is based on: Two different VCOs optimized for Narrow band (76 GHz-77 GHz) and Wide band (77 GHz 81 GHz) applications, ensuring low phase noise for the former and higher tuning range for the latter; on-chip fully configurable FMCW modulator, including GHz oscillator for radar signal generation and divided output. A flexible timing engine can generate in autonomous mode without MCU intervention, different Chirp sequences (up to 8) accordingly to the pre-programmed setting. The transmitters deliver a typical output power of 13 dbm to the antennas. A BPSK phase shifter is integrated in front of any power amplifier stage, allowing independent transmitter phase selection. Each receiver chain consists of: An high linearity down converter with programmable gain; A VGA with 8 steps of programmable gain and a band-pass filter with programmable cut off frequencies (from 100 khz to 500 khz for the high-pass and 5 MHz or 10 MHz for the low-pass filter). The filter is 7th order to guarantee the proper rejection at the alias frequency in front of the A/D converter. A 12 bit pipeline A/D, guaranting up to 10.5 bit of ENOB, followed by a configurable decimation chain (1, 2, 4). Finally IF digital outputs can be acquired via MIPI-D phy using CSI2 protocol on dedicated pins. STRADA770 includes monitoring functions for compliancy to ISO Road Vehicles Functional Safety. Monitored features are junction temperature, transmitted output power, low/high supply voltage, PLLs lock, clock presence, IF chain saturation and ADC clipping, Framer error and SPI error. The device can output the internal generated LO signal ( GHz) through a singleended port and can work using an LO signal coming for an external pin. These features enables a modular Master/Slave configuration for applications requiring an high number of receivers and/or transmitters. In this case the synchronization signals have to be shared among the master/slave devices. The configurable GPIOs can be used to synch microcontroller execution and to generate an interrupt in case of failure conditions according to the programmable monitoring functions. 2/6 DocID Rev 2
