2 Features of Dia-Log HUB GT for S-485 The Dia-Log HUB GT has the following features: Features six or twelve highly integrated S-485 interfaces - all interfaces are completely equal and galvanically isolated from each other Interfaces full cascadability - The Dia-Log S-485 HUB GT is fully cascadable. Almost any number of Dia-Log HUB GTs can be chained to build new bus segments. This results effectively in an infininite number of subscribers and virtually unlimited line length. Cascadability Subscribers Line Length active noise suppression - by quartz precision signal detection - by reshaping the signal in time and amplitude Active Noise Suppression integration into existing networks - The Dia-Log S-485 HUB GT can be integrated into existing networks. No adjustments of the installation required. 3 Connecting the Dia-Log HUB GT for S-485 EMV / CE: In order to guarantee noise immunity and CE certification, it is mandatory that the DIA-HUB GT is connected properly. Correct wire shielding and earth connection are of particular importance. EMV / CE Earth / Shielding: For optimal immunity against transients, the shielding of the data line must be connected to the housing with low resistance. To achieve this, shielded J-45 connectors must be used, with the shielding properly applied according to the directions by the manufacturer of the connector. In case of installation of the DIA-HUB GT into a switching cabinet, the shielding can additionally be connected to the earth clamp of the cabinet.the mains for the DIA-HUB GT may only be supplied via a correctly wired IEC cord (e.g. by using the cord shipped with the DIA-HUB GT). The connection of the protective earth must be checked after installation. Signal Ground: If your bus system only uses the two data lines, leave the connection for the signal ground open. If no signal error free operation can be achieved, using a signal ground could help. Earth / Shielding Signal Ground (Null) Connector Setup: The J-45 connector pins are configured as follows: A (in 7), B (in 8), Signal Ground/Null (ins 3,4) Use shielded J-45 connectors, lines A and B should be twisted pair, the shielding of the data lines must be connected to the J-45 connector. 5 Status LEDs: The LEDs signal the data traffic on the bus segments. - All LEDs off: no traffic on field bus - 5 (11) LEDs on, 1 LED off: DIA-HUB GT is sending on 5 (11) interfaces Status LEDs Setup: To set the baud rate the case has to be opened. Disconnect mains. Loosen the 5 screws of the rear housing plate, remove it and pull out the bottom plate. The jumpers are now easyly accessible. The jumper functions are shown in Fig. 1. Configuration Oscillator: Quartz oscillators (DIL) are used for the following baud rates: Oscillator Frequency Baud ate 2,4576 MHz Bit/s 16 MHz Bit/s 24 MHz Bit/s Oscillators Termination esistors The end of the field bus must be terminated with a resistor in order to suppress signal reflections. The DIA-HUB GT features integrated resistors according to the rofibus-norm. Fuse The mains fuse T0,5A is mounted to the C14 device socket inside the housing and features a safety cover. This cover has to be put back in place after each replacement of the fuse. Termination esistors Fuse Baud ate / Noise Suppression: The active noise suppression is adjusted to the baud rate with a jumper setting. This way, signal interferences lasting shorter than a quarter of a bit time are detected and filtered. If the baud rate of your system is not shown in the list, use the next higher rate. 6 Troubleshooting Yellow LED off - The DIA-HUB GT has no power Check mains and the fuse inside the device. Mains No green LED on - No data traffic in progress in the system. Wait a short while or make sure that a subscriber is accessing the bus. Data Traffic All but one green LEDs continuously on and very bright - The bus segment with the dark LED is not connected correctly. Check the correct connection of the S-485 segments with the DIA- HUB GT, especially for reverse polarity. Incorrect Connection All but one green LEDs continuously on - A subscriber is blocking a bus segment by permanently and actively accessing the data bus.. In order to locate the broken subscriber, disconnect all subscribers on the blocked segment one by one - The addressed subscribers on the inactive bus segments are not responding so no direction change occurs. Bus Segment Blocked No esponse Frequent Transmission Errors - High interference levels on the data bus. - - Find and eliminate the cause for the interferences. ossible causes are broken subscribers, noise interference by electric or magnetic fields etc. - - The system is operated at the physical limits of the S-485 bus (too many subscribers, baud rate too high, lines too long etc.). Creating one or more new bus segments with a repeater/hub can often prevent transmission errors. Interference Causes New Bus Segment 6
