1 Without communication, there is chaos. Loud, annoying tones without the spoken word are just that: Annoying tones. Tones do not assist in determining intent unless the subject responds by escalating the hostility. If deadly force is used prior to assessing intent you may make the wrong decision. An individual placing his fingers in his ears is not indicative of intent. If the spoken word is communicated audibly from a long distance, a protocol for determining intent and the appropriate response can be developed. With the ability to communicate at long distances, intent can be determined before a threat is posed. The spoken word will make clear to the subject exactly what will happen if the commands are not followed, including the use of escalating force. An annoying tone, a distraction, a command and a warning can all be audibly transmitted over a long distance by MAD products for any situation. HPV introduces the MAD Long Throw Planar Magnetic Surface Array (LT-PMS) (patent pending) technology for professional use. MAD Arrays deliver extreme clarity and intelligibility from near field to distances beyond one mile, allowing for a single point to communicate with thousands of people. Planar magnetic transducers are specifically chosen for their exceptional sound quality, voice intelligibility, low distortion and excellent sound dispersion properties. These high quality speakers are the basic building blocks of all MAD Planar Magnetic Surface Array Products. Depending on the dispersion angles, MAD Surface Arrays can achieve almost parallel beams of sound or have full 360 degree radiation angles in both horizontal and vertical planes. MAD Surface Arrays represent real life examples of plane sound source (large flat surface that radiates sound), which is ideal for very long distance sound projection. As the sound waves propagate from the plane sound source, they do not expand but continue to pass through the same area as the source itself. Therefore, the energy density at any point in space is equal to the energy density at the sound source plane itself. The sound pressure level is constant everywhere in the vicinity of a plane sound source. SPL is independent of the distance from the plane assuming that there is no loss in acoustic energy. MAD Arrays have a dipole dispersion pattern which means there is equal sound in the front and back of the array while there is almost no sound on the sides. If rear radiation is absorbed, the dipole pattern is converted to cardioid. A dipole speaker can cover twice the area of the cardioid version. There are many applications for the military, police, maritime, and civilian population including public safety, mass notification, first alert, check point, and deterrence to intruders. All of these signals and verbal commands are distortion free. Each product utilizes a different number of planar magnetic full range transducers. With more MAD transducers per speaker, more power can be put into a system and longer throw (distance) can be achieved with higher loudness (SPL) and wider bandwidth. Currently, there are nine designs available (LT-PMS-1, -2, - 4, -6, -24, -54, -96, and Stop Sign) as well as a Mass Communication System (MAD-WG-200) utilizing planar technology. 2 LT-PMS-1 and LT-PMS-1-WG500 This is a handheld modern version of a bull horn. It incorporates 1 MAD-1 Planar Magnetic Speaker with or without a waveguide. It can be used to direct crowds and get the attention of individuals up to 500 ft (80dB) for the standard LT-PMS-1 and up to 800 ft (80dB) for the LT-PMS-1-WG500 version loaded with a 500Hz waveguide for increased output and control of the midrange.
