TRANSFER,UNCT 661 PRNTER GENERAL NFORMATON The No. 665 Power Transfer Unit supervises the AC power being supp.lied to Ademco s No. 660 Digital Dialer Receiver and the No. 661 Printer. n the event of an AC power failure, the No. 665 automatically switches both the receiver and printer to a standby wet cell battery. When power is restored, the No. 665 automatical.ly switches them back to AC operation and begins recharging the wet cell battery. The No. 665 consists of: 1. A steel cabinet housing supervisory circuitry. 2. A No plug-in low voltage transformer. 3. A two-wire single-plug connector. 4. A three-wire double-plug connector. n addition, a 12 volt wet cell battery is required. Ademco recommends that the battery have a minimum rating of 55 ampere hours. (A STANDARD 12 VOLT AUTOMOBLE BATTERY WTH A RATNG OF 55 AMPERE HOURS OR BETTER S NORMALLY USED.) f s telephone company coupler (SUGAV) is used, an also be required. UNT BE CONNECTED N A SPECFC FOLLOWED N EXACT ORDER- DAMAGE TO THE LOCATON : The No. 665 should be located as close as possible to the No. 663 Receiver and No. 661 Printer Under --- no circumstances should the ~-- C distant e between the No. 665 and the Nos _-_ exceed...- _ 24 _- _ f cj2-t... - MOUNTNG THE CABNET: 1. Open the cover of the No. 665 cabinet and remove the two spade lugs from terminals 3 and 4. (See Diagram 1. These wires connect the relay sub-assembly to the printed circuit board and must be removed before attempting to take the wired panel out of the cabinet. Remove the six screws that attach the printed circuit board and relay sub-assembly to the cabinet. Carefully take the printed circuit board and relay sub-assembly out of the cabinet. 2. Mount the No. 665 cabinet as close to the No. 660 Receiver and No. 661 Printer as possible. 3. Re-instal both the printed circuit board and the relay subrassembly into the mounted cabinet. Make certain to reconnect the two spade uqs, the. b ack wi re uq to terminal 3 and the red wire luq to terminal 4..89

2 NOTE : f a No. 661 Printer is not being used, skip the following section and proceed with the instructions for wiring the No. 660 Receiver to the No. 665 Power Transfer Unit. Attach the two-wire single-plug female connector supplied with the No. 665 to the male connector extending through the housing of the No. 661 Printer at the.ine cord retainer. 2. Extend the leads of the female connector attached to the No. 661 to reach the lower terminal strip of the No Use Chart 1 to determine the number of 16 gauge wires which must be run in parallel to make a proper connection. 3 NOTE : Although this completes the connection of the No. 661 Printer to the No. 665 Power Transfer Unit, DO NOT PLUG THE NO. 661 BACK NTO TS AC OUTLET UNTL THE REST OF THE NSTALLATON NSTRUCTONS-HAVE BEEN RECEVER CONNECTONS: 1. Unplug the No. 660 Digital Dialer Receiver from its AC outlet and turn it around so that the rear of the unit faces you. Unplug the molex connector marked + 12 V.OUT from the receptacle marked + 12 V.. 2. Attach the three-wire double-plug connector included with the No to the receiver. The male molex plug of the three-wire connector should be attached to the female + 12 V. OUT molex plug of the No The female molex plug of the three-wire connector should be attached to the + 12 V. receptacle. 3. Extend the three leads now attached to the No. 660 to reach the lower terminal strip of the No Use Chart 1 to determine the number of 16 gauge wires which must be run to make proper connections. 4. Connect the extension wire attached to the red connector wire to terminal 11 of the No Connect the extension wire attached to the black wire to terminal 12. Connect the extension wire attached to the white wire to terminal 13. TELEPHONE COUPLER CONNECTONS: 1. Place a No. 96 Recharge-A-Pack inside the No. 665 Power Transfer Unit. Connect terminal No. 4 (-1 of the No. 96 to terminal No. 4 (+ of the No Solder and tape a pair of wires to the red and b \ack flying leads provided in the coupler ccrd which connects the No. 660 Rece iver to the SU6AQ telephone company coupler. OBSERVE POLARTY. The black f lying lead (-1 must be connected to terminal No. 3 (-1 of the No The red f lying lead (+ must be connected to terminal No. 3 (+ of the No Connect terminals 1 and 2 of the, No. 96 to the No transformer supplied with the unit and plug it into a nearby 24 hour outlet. The 6 volt rechargeable standby batteries built into the No. 96 power supply plus the 12 volt wet cell battery connected to the No. 665 power transfer unit will provide full standby power for the telephone company coupler during an AC power failure. POWER CONNECTONS: THE NO. 660 RECEVER, THE NO. 661 PRNTER, AND THE TRANSFORMER FOR THE NO. 665 POWER TRANSFER UNT MUST BE PLUGGED NTO THER RESPECTVE AC OUTLETS FOLLOWNG A DEFNTE PLtiG- N SEQUENCE. 4 terminals 5 and 6 of the No. 665 and bring them to the wet cell battery. Attach the wire connected to terminal 5 to the negative side of the battery. BE SURE TO OBSERVE POLARTY. DO NOT ATTACH THE REMANNG WRE TO THE POSTVE SDE OF THE BATTERY AT THS TME. 2. Locate the 24 hour AC outlet nearest to the No Be sure the current to this outlet is not interrupted by a switch or by a circuit breaker when the office is closed for the day. Make preparations for the AC connection. Attach the No Plug-in Transformer to the No. 665 Power Transfer Unit using terminals 1 and 2. At least 18 gauge wire should be used for this connection. - DO NOT PLUG THE NO TRANSFORMER NTO THE AC OUTLET AT THS TME. *pi 3. Plug the No. 660 Digital Dialer Receiver into its AC outlet. The No. 660 should turn on and the two relays in the No. 665 Power Transfer Unit should pull in. f the horn sounds in the No. 660 Receiver, push the silence alert button to reset it. E -. Unplug, in the followinq order, the No. 665 Power Transfer Unit, the Jo. 660 Receiver, and the No. 661 Printer from their respective AC outlets. The horn in the No. 660 Diqital Receiver may come on at this time. f it does, reset it by pushing the - si lence a ert button on the front of the No Check the operation of the No. 660 Receiver by using the lamp test button located, at the rear of the unit. By pushinq this button, 8888 will be displayed. 3. Check the operation of the No. 661 Printer by using the print button ---;---- located at -. the -.- _-- bottom of the rear panel of the Printer. 5 No.665 POWER TRANSFER UNT WTH NO. 661T PRNTER MPORTANT NOTE : These instructions describe the use of the No. 665 with a No. 661T Thermal Type Printer. To connect to the earlier No. 661 nk Printer, see the particular nstallation nstructions elsewhere in this section. The information contained herein is applicable as well to the No. 673T Digital Receiver/Printer (thermal type) for Rack Mounting. GENERAL NFORMATK)N: The No. 665 Power Transfer Unit supervises the AC power being supplie( to Ademco s No. 660 Digital Receiver. t also provides continuous DC power for the No. 661T (Thermal) Printer to maintain the electronic clock circuitry. n the event of an AC power failure, the No. 665 automatically switches the receiver to a standby wet cell battery. When power is restored, the No. 665 automatically switches it back to AC operation and begins recharging the wet cell battery. The No. 665 consists of: 1. At the rear of the No. 6617, unpluq the connector marked 12V. DC OUT from the 12V. DC N connector. Connect the 2 wire cord with connector supplied with the No. 665 to the No. 66lT s 12V. DC NPUT connector. The 32V connector wi remain disconnected. 2. Extend the leads of the 2 wire cord with connector to reach the lower terminal strip of the No Use the chart below to determine the number of the 16 gauge wires which must be run in parallel to make a proper connection.

The No. 660 should turn on and the two relays in the No. 665 Power Transfer Unit should pull in. f the horn sounds in the No. 660 Receiver, push the SLENCE ALERT button to reset it. 4. Connect the unattached lead from terminal 6 of the No. 665 to the positive terminal of the wet cell battery. POLARTY MUST BE OBSERVED. 5. Pluq in the No Transformer. 6. Pluq the No. 661T Printer into the AC outlet. This synchronizes the clock circuitry in the No. 661T to the AC power line. The printer will now be operable but the time will have to be adjusted following the instructions supplied with the printer. Note : f l-his AC subsequently fails, internal clock circuitry in the No. 661T takes over automatically during the outage. THS COMPLETES THE NSTALLATON TEST PROCEDURE: Unplug the No.665 Power Transfer Unit and the No. 660 Receiver from their respective AC outlets. The No. 660 should turn off and then come back on an instant later, 0pe-r.. ating from battery power. Review printer, receiver and power connection sequence found in the nstallation nstructions. TROUBLE : THE PRNTER AND RECEVER WLL NOT OPERATE REMOVED. ON STANDBY POWER WHEN A.C. POWER S PROBABLE CAUSE REMEDY A. Connections between 12 volt storaqe battery and No. 665 are not camp ete. A. Defective charqing circuitry in C. unit is failinq to charqe battery (measure DC output voltage at terminals 5 (-1 and 6 (+ of the No. 665 with any one of the attached leads to these terminals disconnected). Look for a minimum of 12 volts 0-C. at these terminals with,printer and receiver plugged into A.C. outlets, and connections to the print.er and receiver left intact. Return unit to Ademco for servicinq if th.is voltaqe is not obtained. 97
