WARNING: Always exercise extreme caution before, during and after detection of AC current when using the FireCraft tracer. WARNING: The FireCraft tracer only detects Alternating Voltage (AC) and does not detect Direct Current Voltage (DC) such as car batteries. WARNING: AC detection ranges and sensitivities are relative depending how the AC Source is shielded, insulated,installed, damaged or exposed. All working areas where FireCraft tracer users may test for AC sources sensitivity will vary depending on the building design, construction materials and immediate surrounding environment. WARNING: Mains grid power lines can automatically reset when tripped. Never assume that supply is isolated until area is declared safe by the local power utility or service provider.

FireCraft tracer always starts in self test mode, it important that the user is aware of this. FireCraft tracer is water resistant not waterproof!

4 TYPICAL APPLICATIONS Indoor Assessment: Determine whether AC outlets or power cords are energized; assess non power lines, such as cable TV; trace wiring within walls. Vehicular Incidents: Assess the site and vehicle for potential exposure to AC voltage; verify power disconnect. Building Collapse / Urban Search & Rescue: Detect unknown sources of unshielded and potentially hazardous AC voltages; verify proper power disconnect. Structure Fires: Identify nearby high voltages and potential dangers from electrical wires during size up, investigation, and salvage and overhaul operations. Storms and Disaster Recovery: Identify energized wires on roads or structural parts in collapsed building and flooded sites; assess the extent of a power outage. Swimming Pools or other Wet Environments: Determine if water or damp ground is energized.

5 FireCraft tracer is a hand held AC Voltage detector that measures relative AC field Signal Strength. The device features both visual and audible signals to alert the user of the AC signal strength relative to the proximity and direction between the user and a 40 70Hz AC source. The unit is turned on by means of the on/off sliding switch on the right hand front side of the device. The start up self test feature determines a pass or fail whether the device if ready for safe operation. Pass : Emitting a series of beeps and flashes for a period of 5 seconds indicates a Pass and that the device is ready for use. Fail : Emitting a slow continuous beep indicates a Fail and alerts the user that the battery may need to be replaced or the unit is faulty. REMOVE FROM SERVICE IMEDIATELY IF UNIT IS FAULTY! Troubleshoot: Replace the battery and repeat start up procedure or remove from service should the unit repeatedly fail the start up self test procedure. When a unit fails self test repeatedly after the battery is replaced it should be returned to manufacturer according to procedures outlined in the operating manual.

7 Before use, read section 3 of the FireCraft tracer operating manual provided with each unit. Turn the tracer on by sliding the On/Off Switch forward. The On/Off Switch is located on the right side of the unit. Allow the tracer to self test wait for the rapid beeps and red flashes to stop (approximately 5 seconds). If the eunit temits tsso slow,,steady beeps, this means the ebattery is low. Replace the battery before proceeding. Hold the tracer in front of you, at arm s length, keeping the unit parallel to the ground, and slowly move the unit from side to side. NOTE: This unit is directional. If a potentially dangerous AC source, wire or device needs to be checked, point the device directly at the suspected source, and approach slowly. ( Continued next slide)

8 Exercise extreme caution at every stage of these procedures: Approach the area by holding the unit at arm s length parallel to the horizon. Slowly rotate the unit in a complete circle as you approach. The unit will emit a beep and flashing light when a potential AC source is located, note the direction that the unit is pointing then move slowly forward in the direction. The strongest signal will indicate the direction and strength of the suspected AC signal source. As the user gets closer to the source the intensity of the beeps and light signal will increase. A constant visual and audible alarm indicates the immediate proximity of the AC source and its signal intensity. Once the AC source is located, keep the tracer away from the source. After use turn off the tracer and return it the storage case provided. WARNING: Do not touch the tracer directly to any wire, device or suspected AC power source. Warning: DO not use the FireCraft tracer to move wires or for any purpose other than detecting and locating live AC electric fields.

9 Note: False Positive Signals In some environments where random electromagnetic signals may occur, a user may occasionally encounter a False positive signal. These are indicated by an occasional beep as you move around holding the tracer. If this is encountered, hold the unit still for several seconds. It should stop beeping. If the beep continues as you hold the tracer still, you are probably near a source of AC voltage. To locate the direction of the AC voltage source, slowly turn in a circle, pointing the tracer toward the horizon. on The direction of the AC voltage source will be indicated by the strongest signal [beeping and flashing]. Move cautiously in the direction indicated until the power source is located.

10 CARE: NOTE: The FireCraft tracer is water resistant not waterproof. Take care to avoid immersing the unit in water or getting it wet. Should the unit accidently get wet, take the following steps: Step 1. Gently shake the unit downwards to remove any water from the speaker. Step2. Remove the red protective boot and Step 3. Dry both the boot and the tracer with a soft cloth. Step 4. Remove the battery and leave the battery compartment open to allow the unit to dry. Step 5. Once completely dry, reinstall the 9V battery then test unit by turning On the start up mode and check before returning into service. NOTE: Do not use a hair dryer or compressed air to dry the tracer.

11 CLEANING: Do not use abrasives or solvents. Use mild detergent and water to remove grease stains. Dry with a soft, dry cloth. SERVICE: The FireCraft tracer carries a limited warranty for a period of 1 year from purchase. Should you wish to have the trace r checked, or if the unit does not function properly, call for Service: ( ). 8 RETURNS: DO NOT return the unit without first contacting FireCraft to obtain a Return Authorization Number. Instructions on how to return the unit will be provided when you call for your Return Authorization Number.
