CSP TODAY 2015 INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS FOR CSP CONTROLLERS November 2015, Seville
OUR PRODUCTS Local tracking Controllers With embedded SPA Algorithm for autonomous /slave tracking strategies. High temp. range -40ºc to 85º c design. Multiple communication options (wireless, F.O. Electrical motor or hydraulic drives control Field Network Controllers Level 2 or NCU network controllers are the gateway between Local or field controllers and the DCS or Solar Field SCADA systems. Multiple communication options Ethernet (Copper or F.O.) Sensors & tools Calibration & tilt sensors, commissioning tools, etc for improving tracking accuracy and commissioning.
INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTS 350 Mw 710Mw Worldwide CSP installed or in construction CPV and PV installed 2 factories & over 12 countries installations and support
MARKET DEVELOPMENT P4Q Head quarters Spain: 200 Mw in operation P4Q USA. NM factory Marocco: 200 Mw in quote process Israel: 150Mw under construction India: 5Mw trial power plant China: Expanding business Chile: 150 Mw in quote process. over 300Mw PV installed South Africa: 250 Mw in quote process
IMAGE GALLERY Installation Images Our engineers are proud of their support during certification phase of the heliostats and troughs. Their smile faces are the result of a well done work together with our customers.
BUSINESS MODEL 1 We are committed to reduce overall LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy) 2 3 Investment cost Installation cost O&M costs Competitive Hw & Sw platforms for solar tracking. Integration, low cost etc. Quick commissioning tools and wireless systems help to reduce installation costs. Reliable and maintenance free, self adjusted systems are required for reduce O&M costs. LCOE : the average total cost to build and operate a power-generating asset over its lifetime divided by the total power output of the asset over that lifetime.
INNOVATIVE TOOLS to reduce LCOE Wireless Communications Robust, cheap & easy to install wireless communications are now available. Quick Commissioning Parametrization and commissioning are now easy to perform. Self calibrated systems Automatic system as our solar sensor can calibrate the mechanical offset. Self learning algorithm. Self Powered systems Autonomous from Grid power inlet. Self powered from PV allows easy installations
1 WIRELESS NETWORKING Why Zigbee? Physical and link level based on the standard IEEE Reliable & safe? Encryption available, mesh routing, Modbus protocol Zigbee gateway allows access to the controllers handling multiple connections to differenet serial devices that are addresssed with a Modbus ID converting into a Zigbee MAC address. Routing, transport and application layers, are defined by the Zigbee Consortium, and take care of network auto configuration and mesh routing. Uses of the ISM band, available worldwide for low power applications. implements expanded spectrum (DSSS) modulation, with a base rate of 250kbit/s Mesh routing capabilities, and automatic network reconfiguration Frequency agility: change the working channel if excessive interference is detected Scalable? All devices work as routers connecting through a gateway The stochastic addressing mode of the ZigbeePRO allows for thousands of units to be connected to a single gateway, but this is not reasonable, as other things have to be considered: - concentration of risk in one device (the gateway) - the scan cycle time
WIRELESS PROJECT Antenna selection Wavelength analysis, dipole or monopole for maximum gain and radiation pattern study taking into account the electromagnetic mirrors. Solar Field condition The presence of big metallic surfaces in movement with moving fading zones due to multipath interferences. RF spectrum simulation tools are used Range estimation The RF link is modelized by different factors expressed in logarithmic scale (db). Preceived (dbm)= Ptransmitted (max18 dbm) - Transmitter Cable Loss (db) + Transmitter Antenna Gain -Free Space Loss -Polarization Loss + Receiver Antenna Gain -Receiver Cable Loss Final RF lay-out After all RF simulation, final lay-out is proposed for a safe networking, with sub-network gateways efficient locations.
2 QUICK COMMISSIONING IN FOUR STEPS 1 Scan LOC Use GPS barcode reader 2 Download data File processor for network assignment. Addressing plan programmer. 3 Comms. setup Router addresses configuration and final Modbus address assignment. Broadcast command. Network verification 4 Parametrization Calibration and functional verification of tracking parameters
3 SELF CALIBRATION Errors correction & self learning algorithm Pole inclination error Due to a lack of precision with pole alignment with Earth center. Facet paralelism error Paralelism lack between elevation axis and facet array plane. Axis perpendicularity error Both axe must be perpendicular for correct tracking. Impossible during construction but compensated by sw. How we could do that? With the Suntrack Solar sensor. 14 bits resolution optical sensor. Error less than 0,1mrad +0,2% ax+by Offsets corrections For both axis, mechanical offset, self weigth corrections real vs theoretical position from encoders. Corrections formula With all errors model a self learning mathematical formula is used for tracking corrections. Open loop tracking With the self learning algorithm based on inverse cinematic, system works open loop corrected as closed loop system.
SELF CALIBRATION THREE STEPS Step one Install solar optical sensor parallel to the facets. Calculate offset among sensor and facets. Step two Start direct sun tracking, and log tracking parameters from sensor and encoders. Build correction formula. Step three Open loop tracking pointing the receiver with mechanical corrections to the SPA algorithm. Maximum pointing accuracy granted. BENEFITS: 1.- no operator need for calibration 2.- many trackers calibrating at same time in parallel 3.- no camera/target need
4 SELF POWERED Battery & charger Li ion batteries with battery monitoring system and charger are available today in mass production (Automotive) 2 PV panel Very competitive 30 w panel would be enough for a 100 sqm heliostat. <1$/w 1 3 Efficient Drives Efficcient DC drives >24v are suitable for the application. 15 Amps peak power would be enough for elevation drive.
SELF POWERED SYSTEMS BATTERY MONITORING New battery technologies Electronic and new chemistries are allowing to use massively new battery packs more reliable, longer life time and safer.. Monitoring systems improvements helps to ensure operation
SELF POWERED SYSTEMS BENEFITS Costs reduction Massive installation with a plug & play capabilities promotes the industrialization of the heliostats for sites above heliostats. New batteries technologies allows to trust on this maintenance free technologies Quick installation, not depending on grid connection. Easy to plan deployment & commissionning for installers. Mass production. Industrialization and plug & play Really renewable. No grid power consumption. eliminate parasitic utility draw for a higher net energy yield
