5 Watt-hour meters AC electronic meters for active energy 1 Scope 1.1 This standard specifies requirements for newly manufactured static watt-hour meters of accuracy classes 1 and 2, for the measurement of alternating current (a.c.) electrical active energy of frequencies in the range 45 Hz to 65 Hz, and for their type tests. 1.2 It is applicable only to static watt-hour meters for indoor and outdoor use and that consist of a measuring element and one or more registers enclosed together in a meter case, and also to operation indicators and test outputs. 1.3 Where the display or one or more memories (or any combination of these) is/are external, or where other elements are enclosed in the meter case (such as maximum demand indicators, a telemetering section, time switches or remote controls), this standard is applicable to the metering section only. 1.4 This standard is not applicable to a) watt-hour meters where the voltage across the connection terminals exceeds 600 V (line-to-line voltage for meters for polyphase systems), b) portable meters, c) data interfaces to the register of the meter, d) acceptance tests and routine tests, and e) reliability, since no short-term test procedures are available that could be incorporated in type test documents to check this requirement satisfactorily.
