4 EN : Foreword The text of document 80/371/FDIS, future edition 2 of IEC , prepared by IEC TC 80, Maritime navigation and radiocommunication equipment and systems, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel vote and was approved by CENELEC as EN on This European Standard supersedes EN :1996. It includes the following technical changes: a) it reflects the changes brought about by IMP adopting GPS as part of the carriage requirement on ships defined in SOLAS Chapter V; b) the new IMO performance standards, resolution MSC.112(73), replaced the previous issue, A.819(19), for new installations on the 1st of July This second edition of N incorporates revised tests for type approvals to the new performance standard; c) changes include the need for a data output to the EN series giving COG SOG and UTC with validity marking, operation during interference conditions and improved failure warnings. The following dates were fixed: latest date by which the EN has to be implemented at national level by publication of an identical national standard or by endorsement (dop) latest date by which the national standards conflicting with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) Annexes designated "normative" are part of the body of the standard. In this standard, annex ZA is normative. Annex ZA has been added by CENELEC. The object of IEC is to promote international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields.
