This can be done by US Mail, or via the Internet (preferred). The deadline for each issue is the Thursday, one week before the monthly meeting. by mail Bob Hess, W1RH 5020 Glory View Drive Placerville, CA September Meeting Thursday, October 25th 7:15 PM Federated Church, Placerville Doing a Remote CQP Expedition in Style! + Pacificon Revuew FROM THE PRESIDENT Nancy and I have spent the month of October watching baseball and with both of our teams in the World Series it looks like we will finish the month watching as well. I have been able to see some of the DX spots and it looks like there has been some good DX to work. I hope some of it is still around when the World Series is over. The club has been active again this month. We supported the Garden Valley Youth Expo by setting up the ARES trailer at the event and showing off HAM radio to those who were interested. The end of the month will offer the club an opportunity to tour a TV transmitter tower in Walnut Grove. We don t have any activities lined for November but maybe we will have a weekend to have some fun. A lot of us, including myself have antenna projects underway. So there might be some opportunities to help a club member finish their project before the nice weather disappears. Next month the club will hold its annual elections and the board is always looking for new faces to bring some fresh ideas to the club. The commitment to serve on the board or a leadership role is not too time consuming and can be lots of fun. If you want to know more about the club board feel free to talk to one of the members during a break at the meeting this month. Well I m going to get back to watching the World Series and plugging away on my fan dipole antenna rebuild. Enjoy the rest of the month and Happy Halloween. 73 and Go Dodgers! 2 GAREDN VALLEY YOUTH EXPO Jay, KE6GLA The El Dorado County ARC supported the Garden Valley Youth Expo on Sunday, October 15th. The club has been supporting the Youth Expo for over a decade. We bring the ARES trailer and raise up the big mast to support the HF antenna. Inside the trailer we have all the radios buzzing with activity and an APRS demonstration. We made several contacts on HF to Pennsylvania and Arizona and Texas and had a few visitors stop by. october 2018, Vol. 12, No El Dorado County Circuit

8 TUBE OF THE MONTH Norm, N6JV Visit the Museum: n6jv.com 6D22 If you ask a tube collector what he knows about the 6D22, he would probably reply What is a 6D22? In my research, I have never found any equipment that actually used one. I found an advertisement in CQ magazine of March, 1946, for the tube so I know about when it was made. In that same CQ issue, another tube, the 4-250A, has an advertisement. Both tubes are high power VHF tetrodes. Perhaps this is a case of a great idea that came out at the worst time. It s like being the favorite horse in the Kentucky Derby only to run against Secretariat and ending up in a claiming race at Golden Gate Fields. The 4-250A and its beefed up brother, the 4-400A, are still being used today after 70 years. My 6D22 is an orphan but one of the best looking tubes in the museum. The 6D22 is a beam tetrode made by Raytheon that can deliver a KW up to 60 MHz. I might have made an amplifier with it, but I can t find a spare tube. Popular no, rare yes. october 2018, Vol. 12, No El Dorado County Circuit
