1.2 Architecture DTM 8000 architecture is built around the concept of high reliability, safe operation and independence of each acquisition channel. command relays BACKPLANE Multiplexed lines CCU Keyboard LCD Out A Out B Au Out Relay Board Input board ch 1 ch 2 ch 3 Input signals Reference Junction ch 4 Fig. 2 DTM 8000 block structure The backplane is completely passive and carries the serial communication signal between cards. To the backplane are connected: two power-supply units: a main and an optional redundant. input cards carrying four independent microprocessor-operated isolated channel modules; every channel has its own high accuracy integrating 18 bit A/D converter; the modules are powered with an individual isolating transformer. control unit card (CU), that provides user interface via keyboard and LCD display, cumulative alarm, general fault outputs, communication between input cards via an high integrity multiplexed serial bus. output cards with alarms relays and analog output modules. temperature sensor for local cold junction compensation. Total separation between functional units ensures a high reliability of the whole system. A failure of a single module does not affect other modules on the same card. Servicing is also made easier by the module independence and hot swapping capability. Logical independence of modules adds integrity protection to the monitor while noise rejection at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz guarantees robustness even in harsh environments. Each channel module is equipped with a microprocessor performing the following tasks: processing of digitized input signal from the A/D converter alarm trip management and channel relay control analog output scaling and processing communication with the control card LEDs signaling ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 7

Channel configuration, engineering unit scaling, alarm setup and control are totally performed by software without need of hardware (i.e. no manually operated switches). 1.3 Key features Reliability High reliability in the DTM 8000 is obtained through: low consumption: all circuits are designed using low power techniques to reduce heat dissipation and increase system reliability components selection: all components are selected for reliable high temperature operation and overrated to maximize life expectancy and long term stability. All connectors are gold plated to eliminate oxidation in aggressive environments high integrity architecture: a processor for each channel ensures a high degree of immunity to faults. redundant power supply: optional 24V DC backup from uninterruptible supply bus or battery pack. system self check: complete self check of the system at power on and continuously, transparent to the user, burnout detection of sensors and lines Maintenance All vital parts of DTM 8000 such as power supply, channel cards, alarm and analog output cards, central control unit are hot swappable avoiding system shut-down for card replacement Configuration System configuration is simplified by the on-screen menu. Configuration is limited to a series of selections from an option lists and can easily be performed in the field. The display presents options in a simple user friendly form and parameters configuration data can be entered directly by keyboard. The configuration menu is password protected against unauthorized entry I/O capabilities Each channel accepts almost any input currently used in industrial applications, configuration is completely performed at software level. Input circuits can be configured to accept: Thermocouples Type J, K, T, N, R, S with automatic cold junction compensation, linearization and burnout. RTD (2, 3 or 4 wires) Pt 100 (DIN 43760) with linearization and burnout check Transmitting Potentiometer 100 Ohm min. 10 KOhm max. millivolt 0 to +/- 100 mv ( Input impedance > 10 MOhm) Volt 0 to +/- 5 V ( Input impedance >50 KOhm ) ma 0 to +/- 20 ma (Input impedance 20 Ohm) Each channel can have an analog output totally isolated from other outputs, inputs and supply; it can be configured for 0-20 or 4-20 ma range or hardware configured for 0/1 to 5 V Alarms Alarm can be configured in the following operating modes: DISABLED, HIGH or LOW trip mode Normally Energized or Normally De-energized relay direct/delayed actuation with adjustable hysteresis. Each channel has two alarm relays ( Alarm A and B ) each providing an SPDT isolated contact and a corresponding LED on the front panel. Three cumulative alarm SPDT relays ( Alarm A, Alarm B, FAULT ) are provided. Any channel alarm or DTM8000 malfunction will actuate the corresponding cumulative relay and lit the front panel LED. The acknowledge key will deactivate the cumulative alarm relay while the reset key will revert the channel to its normal status when the alarm condition has disappeared. Remote operation of acknowledge and reset are provided via a dedicated terminal block. ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 8

1.3.6 Data presentation For each channel the display presents on a 4 line by 20 column display the following information: Channel NUMBER & TAG ( 16 alphanumeric characters ) VARIABLE value ( with 5 digit ) ENGINEERING UNIT ALARM 1 SET & STATUS ALARM 2 SET & STATUS The display is used during setup for parameter entry in a simple user friendly form with various configuration menu. Alarm or abnormal channel or monitor status are also highlighted on front panel by flashing LEDs corresponding to the channel or system section Power supply DTM 8000 can be powered by one or two independent units: units can be combined as preferred and are available with the supply voltages of 24 V DC, 115 V AC 50/60 Hz or 230 V AC 50/60 Hz. When two units are installed one may operate as backup supply, in this case a failure on any of the two unit will not affect system operation Reference Junction Compensation Reference Junction Compensation, required to properly process Thermocouple signals, may be set as fixed, external (using a special sensor ) or internal. The internal temperature sensor is connected to the system control card and temperature information is then broadcasted to channel microprocessors. If an external thermal equalization block is used a remote sensor may be connected to the monitor; if the block is temperature controlled, fixed compensation mode may be used. 1.4 Optional components The following optional components may be separately purchased: RTD for Reference Junction Compensation 1.5 Related publications Please refer to the following documents for further information on details referred to in this manual: American National Standard ANSI/ISA-S (R1985), Annunciator Sequences and Specifications, edited by the Instrument Society of America ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 9

4 Operation 4.1 Introduction DTM 8000 can be completely checked using the front panel keyboard for both operation and configuration. Normal operations like channel data readout or alarm acknowledge/reset are performed from the front panel with a single dedicated key command. Using the Common Alarm card connector, alarm acknowledge or reset can be optionally actuated by remote commands. Front panel keyboard is divided in two sections: keys for selecting channel are located on the rightmost part of the front panel below channel LEDs keys for configuration and setup operations are located below the display During normal operation, after power up phase described in Section 0, DTM 8000 shows on the LCD display selected channel data. Displays backlit is on, and green power-on LED below the display is active. Card power-on LEDs of the input cards are lighted. Fault and alarm LEDs are off. Even if DTM 8000 is displaying channel data on the screen, it is still monitoring all other channels. Signal monitoring and alarm processing are independently performed at channel level. Therefore response time of DTM 8000 for any anomalous condition or alarm trigger are the same no matter how many channels are installed, without any delay due to communications with the System Control card. 4.2 Start-up When the DTM 8000 is powered it scans all channels to detect which one are installed. Information about installed channels is managed by the System Control card to properly answer to user s requests. At the end of the scan DTM 8000 display data of channel Data display After start-up at the end of initialization procedure, DTM 8000 switches to operating, mode. During normal operation DTM 8000 monitors all the channels and displays measured value of selected channel. Only one channel at a time is displayed: a new channel may be selected pressing the corresponding key. The following information will be displayed: first row channel tag : alphanumeric description of channel up to 16 characters long channel number: channel number assigned by the hardware connection. second row measured value measuring unit further information on measured value as Out-of-range or Overload third row alarm A set value alarm A type (High or Low) alarm A status (if the alarm is active word ALARM is displayed). fourth row alarm B set value alarm B type (High or Low) alarm B status (if the alarm is active word ALARM is displayed). C H. T A G T A G m A A H I G H B L O W ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 22

4.3.1 Channel not present If an uninstalled input card is selected the display shows the following message: C H A N N E L 4 4 N O T P R E S E N T Overload and Out-of-Range Each input has a 20% overload, if this limit is exceeded (i.e. >24 ma for 20 ma input) the channel is in overload condition: the fault relay is switched on, the fault LED is lit and the message OL is shown on the display if the channel is currently selected. When the input signal exceeds by more than 20% the user operating range (i.e 0 to 200 C) the overrange condition occurs: in this case the display shows OR if the channel is selected but no other action is taken. 4.4 Scan mode DTM 8000 can be set to operate in scan mode: in this case the display scans a new channel every 5 seconds; to activate scan mode press [SCAN] button on the keyboard. To stop scan mode press any of the channel buttons. 4.5 Alarm management Alarm sequence of states is compliant with the M6 sequence (manual reset, no audible alarm) as described in the Annunciator Sequences and Specifications, edited by the Instrument Society of America (ISA). An alarm is triggered when the input value exceeds trip points: an alarm function can be HIGH, LOW, or disabled. When the alarm condition is met the behavior of the DTM 8000 is the following: Red LED corresponding to Alarm A or B of the channel is blinking Output relay of the corresponding output card is activated (NO or NC condition depending on setup). Common alarm LED corresponding to cumulative Alarm A or B turns on. Output cumulative relay of Alarms A or B is activated (NO or NC condition depending on setup). If display is switched to the channel in alarm condition Alarm labeling will appear at the right of channel alarm information as in the following figure: P U M P N 0 1 T A G A H I G H A L A R M B L O W Acknowledge To properly start an alarm reset sequence it is mandatory that any new alarm condition is first acknowledged by the operator (or supervisor system if remote acknowledge is used) pressing ACK pushbutton (or activating ACK remote input). When ACK command is issued an acknowledge command is issued, the behavior of the DTM 8000 is: Red LED of channel alarm turns on steadily. Output alarm relay of channel remains activated. Common alarm LED corresponding to cumulative Alarm A or B turns off. Output cumulative relay of Alarms A or B is deactivated (NC or NO condition depending on setup). ACK command may be issued even if the alarm condition is still active. Only one ACK command is needed regardless of the number of active alarms. ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 23

4.5.2 Reset After ACK command alarm reset can be executed, while ACK function operates at system level (one ACK for all active alarms) RESET command is channel-specific: a reset command is required for anyone of the alarms triggered on. A channel alarm, when its variable value renters to a normal value, is reset pressing the RESET button, channel alarms are reset starting from the lower channel number, at every RESET command a channel will be reset and the next will be selected. A reset command will be accepted only if the alarm condition for that alarm is no more active. If the RESET is accepted the following message will be displayed: A L A R M B R E S E T O N C H A N N E L 0 6 Otherwise, is the reset command cannot be executed (no alarm on or alarm condition still active), the display will be: N O A L A R M R E S E T When RESET command is issued the behavior of the DTM 8000 is: Red LED on channel alarm turns off. Output relay is deactivated (NC or NO condition depending on setup). ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 24

5 CONFIGURATION 5.1 Introduction DTM 8000 configuration is completely menu-driven. Menu options are displayed according to the previous selection; for instance, if input is configured for Voltage, the RJC (Reference Junction Compensation) option is not displayed; many options use default values to reduce channels configuration effort: selecting a J type thermocouple, its range is defined by default as -200 C C. During configuration process channels continue to monitor the input signals and alarms, however the ACK and RESET button are disabled until the configuration menu is active. A time-out returns to the previous menu after 60 seconds if the keyboard is not actuated. 5.2 User interface Configuration menus are organized using same keys to perform similar actions. Keys used and related functions are: [ENTER] always confirm the selection or the displayed option [CLR] cancels current selection and returns to the previous menu level [+] and [-] modify the current parameter. These keys scroll among available options, the scrolling is circular, i.e. when last options is displayed, a further key press restarts with the first one [ ] and [ ] have the same meaning of [+] and [-] [ ] and [ ] are used to scroll menu items when more options are available When menu options are displayed on the right side of the screen keystroke suggestions are shown. When the following screen appears C O N T R A S T [ 1 ] C H A N N E L M E N U [ 2 ] S E R V I C E M E N U [ 3 ] Q U I T [ C L R ] pressing 1 contrast modify menu will be entered, with key 2 the channel menu will be available while acting key 3 the service menu will be activated, key CLR will return to the operating mode. 5.3 Menu structure Pressing MENU key, Main menu is displayed: C O N T R A S T [ 1 ] C H A N N E L M E N U [ 2 ] S E R V I C E M E N U [ 3 ] Q U I T [ C L R ] First option has free access, other two are password protected for security. Password is factory set to: [ 1 ] [ 5 ] [ 9 ] [ 7 ] [ 5 ] [ 3 ] We strongly recommended to change password as described in the related section to avoid unauthorized access to core functions of DTM Password code must be stored in a safe place: if forgotten any further access to the configuration menu will be denied. The following diagram shows the complete menu structure of DTM 8000: word password in square brackets identifies options requiring password for access, keystrokes to enter options are in round brackets. When you access it, the following display is shown D I S P L A Y C O N T R A S T 2 1 I N C R E A S E [ + ] D E C R E A S E [ - ] S A V E [ E N T E R ] On the first row current contrast value is displayed, using the + and keys the value can be changed from a minimum value of 0 to a maximum value of 30, once the desired value is obtained, pressing the enter key this value is stored in memory: the LCD display changes contrast wile using this menu. 5.5 Channel menu When you access the channel menu, you will be prompted to key in the password by the following screen: C H A N N E L M E N U E N T E R P A S S W O R D [ ] Password gives access to DTM 8000 configuration functions. Any key of the coordinator keyboard is valid for password, except [CLR], the key button is used to abort password entering if a wrong key is pressed. The Password must always be six character long, once the last key is pressed the password is checked: no [ENTER] key confirmation is required. Password is not echoed on the screen: actual keystrokes are presented with asterisks. If an invalid password is entered the following error message is displayed: A C C E S S D E N I E D * * W R O N G P A S S W O R D * * If the password is correct, the following menu is shown: C A L I B R A T E D V 0 1 S T A T U S ( E n a b l e ) [ 1 ] C H A N N E L C O N F I G. [ 2 ] Q U I T [ C L R ] First line shows the current input unit, pressing the key [1] the channel status is changed from enabled to disabled, pressing key [2] the channel configuration menu is entered. Channel disable is a feature that permits to the user to switch off a channel without changing any of the operating parameters: this function can be used to disable a channel during start-up or when a sensor is damaged. ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 27

5.5.1 Channel configuration Channel configuration menu is divided in six blocks: edit tag default status input setup output setup display setup alarms setup Due to display limits, the six options are arranged on three video pages. You can scroll the pages using right arrow key [ ] Edit tag Edit tag option let key in a description tag of the channel. When this option is selected the following screen appears: P U M P N C U R S O R ( 0 2 U ) [ + - ] M O V E C U R S O R [ ] E X I T [ E N T E R ] [ C L R ] First row contains current channel description, rightmost number is channel number. Second row contains word CURSOR, plus and minus symbols on the right and current cursor position enclosed in round brackets. In figure above cursor is on column two, that contains the letter U (the second letter of the word PUMP). Cursor is moved by arrow keys, when cursor moves position number and related character change accordingly. Character at cursor position in changed pressing + and keys, characters scrolling list is circular and starts from the character currently displayed. At the end new tag name may be stored using [ENTER] Default status This option lets you define default status of channel at power on. Display contains two options, both of toggle type. C H A N N E L ( O N ) [ 1 ] S T A T U S ( D i s a b ) [ 2 ] E X I T [ E N T E R ] First option switches ON or OFF the channel. Second option enables or disables the channel. Currently displayed settings will be stored and used at subsequent power up. A disabled channel will neither show up nor trigger alarms (this function acts like Status command already described but acts permanently). When the system is reset by powering it off and on, status of enabled/disabled set with default status command will be retained, while status settings are lost. ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 28

5.5.4 Input setup With this menu type of input and related parameters are defined. The screen is the following, with actual information shown depending on channel setup. I N P U T T Y P E ( T / C J ) C H A N G E I N P U T [ + ] O T H E R P A R A M. [ ] E X I T [ E N T E R ] [ C L R ] First row describes input type, other input types are selectable using [+] key; list is circular starting with current selection. Option mode is toggled using the [+] key. RJC Mode: Reference Junction Compensation can be automatic or fixed, toggled with the [+] key. When automatic mode is selected, with ambient temperature sensor installed, thermocouple measure is automatically corrected regardless of environmental temperature; when fixed mode is selected, compensation is based on a fixed junction reference value: if fixed mode is selected following option defines reference temperature. RJC Value: This option is accessed only if fixed compensation is selected. Value may be changed using [+] and [-] keys. Low and High limit: Are low and high practical limits of temperature measurement: they cannot be changed by the user. All values shown are in Celsius degree, value on display depend on thermocouple type as follows: Input type Low limit High limit Thermocouple J Type -200 C +750 C Thermocouple K Type C C Thermocouple T Type C C Thermocouple N Type C C Thermocouple R Type 0 C C Thermocouple S Type 0 C C Table 17 Thermocouples high and low limit ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 29

Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) Selecting an RTD next options are to be defined: Burnout: May be enabled or disabled: when enabled a proprietary circuit checks sensor for proper operation in a transparent mode (i.e. without affecting the measure). Option mode is toggled using the [+] key. When using a 4-wire RTD connection, burnout is not detected on ground wire. Low and High limit: Are low and high limit of temperature measurement: they cannot be changed by the user. Unit set is defined in the following table Input type Display units Range Thermocouple & RTD C to K F Potentiometer % to ma, mv, V ma, mv, V C K F % same as input range Table 20 Input types and names ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 31

5.5.7 Alarm setup Configuration of Alarms A and B is identical, alarm configuration is composed by five parameters: relay state type of alarm set point value deadband width delay time Relay state Output relays can be normally energized or normally de-energized; this menu option let you define output relay status for each channel. R E L A Y A S T A T E ( N D ) C H A N G E S T A T E [ ] + O T H E R P A R A M. [ ] E X I T [ E N T E R ] [ C L R ] Available states are ND (normally de-energized) and NE (normally energized); ND setting saves power during normal operation, i.e. when no alarm is active, relay is not activated and does not consume power. Second setting is safer: relay is continuously powered and goes into the alarm status either when an alarm is detected or if DTM 8000 fails and stops to power the relay Type of alarm Alarms can be disabled, HIGH or LOW. A high alarm is triggered when the signal level is higher than threshold value. A low alarm is triggered when the input signal is lower than threshold value. A L A R M A ( H I G H ) C H A N G E S T A T E [ + ] O T H E R P A R A M. [ ] E X I T [ E N T E R ] [ C L R ] Key [+] let You switch between the three alarm operating types Setpoint Setpoint screen let You enter threshold value for alarm trip. First row shows current setpoint, key [+] and [-] change setpoint in unit step while up and down arrow keys in 25 unit step. S E T P O I N T A C H A N G E V A L U E [ + - ] O T H E R P A R A M. [ ] E X I T [ E N T E R ] [ C L R ] ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 32

Deadband Deadband (called as well hysteresis ) is used to avoid a sudden change of alarm status and consequent realy chattering. Once an high alarm is triggered when input value is higher than setpoint a deadband zone assures that any furter decrease in the input signal, lower than the dedband will not disable the alarm on status: this prevents alarm status oscillation; when the alarm type is set to LOW the deadband position is changed to assure exact trip point but protected alarm re-entry point. First row shows current deadband, key [+] and [-] change setpoint in unit step while up and down arrow keys in 25 unit step. D E A D B A N D A 5. 0 C H A N G E V A L U E [ + - ] O T H E R P A R A M. [ ] E X I T [ E N T E R ] [ C L R ] Delay time Last menu option defines the time an alarm condition must be continuously stable to assert a valid alarm status: should the input signal value return to a normal operating value before delay time has elapsed, no alarm will be triggered. This avoids spurious alarms generated by noise or transients. Delay is expressed in seconds and has a resolution of 1/10 of second. Range of values is between 0.1 and 25.5 sec. D E L A Y T I M E A 1. 0 S C H A N G E V A L U E [ + - ] O T H E R P A R A M. [ ] E X I T [ E N T E R ] [ C L R ] 5.6 Service Service menu option contains some settings less frequently used: set time and date of the internal clock change password utilities S E T T I M E & D A T E [ 1 ] C H A N G E P A S S W O R D [ 2 ] U T I L I T I E S [ 3 ] Q U I T [ C L R ] ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 33

5.6.1 Set date and time When this option is selected, first row of display contains current date and time, second row a message that vary depending on which page of setting is active: adjust day adjust month adjust year adjust hour adjust minute clear seconds 2 3 / 0 2 / : 4 6 : 4 9 A D J U S T D A Y [ + ] U T I L I T I E S [ 3 ] Q U I T [ C L R ] Different parts of date and time may be changed, selecting the proper page and pressing [+] key Change password Factory password should be changed as soon as possible to have a secure system access. This option let You enter a new password composed by a sequence of six keys of the keyboard, including channel selection keys. Only [CLR] key may not be used. When sixth character is entered, the DTM 8000 stores the new password. To cancel any entered value You can use the [CLR] key. E N T E R N E W P A S S W O R D [ ] Utilities This option is used to manually load or unload a channel. When a channel is unloaded, DTM 8000 declares it is not present. Load/Unload command is a switch that can be toggled using the [ENTER] key. C H A N N E L N U M B E R 0 7 T A G T E M P. P U M P 0 1 U N L O A D [ E N T E R ] Q U I T [ C L R ] When UNLOAD is displayed the channel is actually loaded, pressing [ENTER] it will switch to the unload status and display will show LOAD, pressing [ENTER] the channel will revert to the load status and the choice to UNLOAD. The tag of an unloaded channel is not displayed on the second row. Load/Unload command is used to add or remove channel cards without powering off the DTM 8000: any unloaded channel will no longer issue alarm signals, so spurious alarms from that channel will be disabled. New alarm card inserted to expand the system input capabilities are to be loaded with this function. ISM DTM 8000 Instruction manual - Rev 2 Page 34
