2 Control Rooms Use Critical Communications CRITICAL COMMUNICATIONS are the ones that are vital for performing certain tasks, functioning of the agency or completing the mission. Mission Critical Business Critical Analog Digital Voice only Voice + data Narrowband Broadband OPEN STANDARDS are standards made available to the general public and are developed (or approved) and maintained via a collaborative and consensus driven process. "Open Standards" facilitate interoperability and data exchange among different products or services and are intended for widespread adoption. 2

4 PMR Trends #2 TETRA still going strong The ETSI TETRA standard dominates critical PMR provision worldwide. Despite TETRA is 20 years old there is still no viable standardised alternative available providing the same levels of secure, reliable, resilient and nationwide voice and data services with: TETRA provides narrow and wideband (1G & 2G equivalent) but does not support broadband data (3G & above equivalent). 4

5 PMR Trends #2 TETRA still going strong Norwegian TETRA network was completed, BDBOS network with around 4500 BS and more than 650,000 users is fully operational. There are ongoing enhancements (Italy), refreshments (Belgium, Finland...) and also replacements (the Netherlands, Slovenia) of nationwide TETRA networks in Europe with new equipment also based on TETRA. Numerous new contracts are announced / realised all over the world for major security events and vital transportation infrastructure. North America is predicted to see rapid growth following the FCC and Industry Canada rulings, with the increasing number of TETRA contracts awarded in the region, for example, BC Hydro, Toronto Transit, New York City Transit, New Jersey transit, several airports and others. 5

6 PMR Trends #2 TETRA still going strong The worldwide installed base is projected to increase at a CAGR of 6.2% from 3.9 million active radios at the end of 2016 to nearly 5.25 million at the end of Europe remains the largest market for TETRA in active radios with a 52% share of the world installed base at the end of 2016 but its share of the overall market is predicted to decline to 46% at the end of 2021, as the installed base in other regions grows. Asia is projected to be the second-largest region in the installed base (867, ) with the MEA the third largest. In MEA region TETRA shipments more than doubled (accounting for 29% of global TETRA shipments); The American installed base is forecast to be led by Latin America from 2016 to 2021 although North America is also forecast to grow substantially from to 2021 and beyond. 7 PMR Trends #3 Cost Optimized Digital technologies One of the key drivers behind the rapid digitization of the PMR installed base is the growth in the use of Cost Optimized Digital technologies, Nearly tripling active users from the end 2015 to the end of The migration varies between countries and regions; Developing countries are beginning to move away from analogue systems to low-cost digital ones, due mainly to economic constraints. 8 Tomorrow With more complex safety and security challenges and with the evolution of technology, the user needs have evolved as well. Situational awareness: e.g. live streaming video, telemetry, drones, etc. Telemedicine: patient vital sign telemetry and / or video from en route ambulances. Blue Force Tracking: e.g. location and vital signs of personnel in firefighting or search & rescue environments. Online access: to databases, building plans, maps, etc. Analytics: online apps for identity analysis, persons, premises, firearms, vehicle registration checks, etc. Don t ask what I want broadband for just give it to me and I ll find uses! It is LTE technology which is expected to satisfy all the bandwidth and key broadband user requirements defined by the ETSI Mission Critical Broadband Communications Requirements ETR specification. 8
