Jörg Hoffmann, Selux sales Every day light moves us to experience the new, time and time again. We at Selux are convinced that good light contributes to quality of life and for this reason we have made profound understanding of light and its effect the basis for our work. Light is the basis of all life on our planet. It provides us with energy and enables us to feel good. Resplendent with the joy of life, it invigorates us and enhances our spiritual and physical well-being. In addition, light empowers our perceptions. It lets us recognise our surroundings, brings colour to life and means we can experience the spaces around us enabling movement and communicating a feeling of safety. Yet light is also a means of design, in art just as much as in architecture. It stages settings in interior and exterior spaces, on façades and objects. It directs our attention and defines atmospheres within spaces. It influences our experiences and consequently affects our mood. With this in mind, we at Selux consider light an essential part of our culture.

Based on many years of experience and the latest state-of-the-art technology they are capable of fulfilling a large number of diverse tasks. Our modular light systems will win customers over with their premium quality shapes and visual comfort. Yet Selux luminaires only meet the highest requirements with respect to colour temperature, colour reproduction and light distribution through our know- how with LEDs with which are we able to meet modern requirements for efficiency. However it is especially in the evenings that we experience the real magic of the big city when the light of the Lif gives the fullest expression to urban life. Reserved in shape, the Lif integrates discretely into all urban settings, innovatively reinterpreting the reduced cylinder form as a basic architectural shape. By day, rather than distracting onlookers, the Lif blends into the background yet by night it displays its full effect with the Lif, it is the light that is aligned, not the luminaire. Its modularity enables it to create visual settings for the surrounding area, adapting itself, like no other luminaire before it, flexibly and effortlessly to a diversity of urban lighting tasks. Highly versatile in terms of application, the Lif enables passers-by to experience the human geography of the city in a highly inspiring way.

The range of applications is practically unlimited. Starting from just a single point or surface, the Lif can beam its light in various directions, spotlighting facades or objects, creating impressive settings or immersing squares and paths in atmospheric light.

It can be used to integrate facade or twinspot modules or as a straightforward design element to create a transparent, gentle effect. Mounting elements can be added together and installed at a rotation between around their own axis, enabling maximum precision of illumination in multiple directions. The integration of different light modules on a single pole ensures a pleasant, calming appearance for the surrounding environment as does the option of aligning several identical Lif columns to the line of reference. 360

With Olivio Sistema, lights can be arranged around the pole at angles between 0 and 360 on single or on multiple levels. RGBW RGBW optics are based on ring-shape arrangement of LED in a rotation-symmetric free form reflector enabling precision colour mixing within the optical unit. Control of colours via DMX or DALI protocol. Olivio luminaire heads are the basis for its versatile configuration options: they are available in three sizes including different optical systems for high-performance LEDs and high-pressure discharge lamps. It has an impressive low construction height of just 103 mm both in the case of the Avanza 450 for pathways and residential streets and the larger Avanza 600 for public roads with a high traffic volume. With its distinctive design language, the Avanza lends streets, squares, paths and parks an aesthetic touch that emphasises the outstanding quality of the light. Avanza 600

The housing is made of durable die-cast aluminium with a diffuser of anti-reflex coated safety glass. The service life of our LED technology is calculated at up to hours. All essential light engineering parameters and electrical characteristic values are tested and documented during initial testing. This guarantees that the original performance of the luminaire is also retained in case of LED upgrades.

55 104 Pole and catenary luminaires Avanza 105 Comfort Optics for special requirements Of course, requirements vary from one application to another and often go beyond those of a normed light. It is especially the case in access-only residential areas with low light spot heights where maximum visual com fort is a particular requirement. This is where the factory-installed Comfort Optics comes in. Attached directly onto the LED cluster, illuminated areas are extended, luminances are reduced and visual comfort is increased as a result.

They also form part of a fascinating video production which is adapted to the seasons or special occasions and looks at traditional solidarity between the sea and port towns.

Friedrichsbrücke Berlin, Germany When this listed bridge over the River Spree was repaired and widened, the newly arranged sandstone obelisks were fitted with four spherical LED luminaires, each with a diameter of 1000 mm. The asymmetrical light distribution across just four points enables this bridge for pedestrians and cyclists to Berlin s museum island to be illuminated in compliance with standards without affecting the shipping traffic on the River Spree.

185 364 Individual luminaires 365 Architect: Serge Renaudie Lighting design: Yann Kersalé Cherbourg, France An extensive redevelopment of the industrial harbour landscape has led to the creation of a new green oasis with approx 7000 plants including palm trees, white magnolia, bamboos and shrubs as well as new leisure facilities for local residents in Cherbourg. The floral theme is continued by the organic Olivio luminaires and the 100 Lu-Mignon designer luminaires with their artistic bamboo, blossom and leaf motifs which blend harmoniously into this new greenspace. The luminaires, which were designed by light designer Yann Kersalé, create a feel-good atmosphere while at the same time ensuring easy orientation within the park.

186 366 Individual luminaires 367 Architect: Christoph Mäckler Architekten Alte Brücke Frankfurt am Main, Germany For many centuries now, the Alte Brücke or Old Bridge in Frankfurt am Main, which is first mentioned in historical documents dating back to 1222, has been the only way of crossing the River Main. During the course of history, it has been destroyed and reconstructed at least 18 times. As part of this latest upgrade, the entire lighting system was updated to improve traffic safety and lend the bridge a more welcoming appearance. The customised pole mounted luminaire blends in perfectly into the historical surroundings while meeting both lighting technology and economical requirements.

190 374 Historicising luminaires 375 Bad Kissingen Fixture Schupmann Fixture The Bad Kissingen fixture is an adaptation of a historical luminaire shape with a plainly decorated bishop s crook-type pole. Originally designed for the spa town of Bad Kissingen, variants of this fixture can be found in Hamburg s Old Warehouse District (Speicherstadt) and in Berlin. This is a faithful replica of the historical Berlin Schupmann fixture incorporating modern lighting technology. 201 396 Intelligent Lighting 397 Controls DALI Control The control by DALI (Digital Address able Lighting Interface) implements addressing, grouping, dimming in a resolution of 8-bit (254 dimming steps), switch-off using digital com mands. Two control leads are necessary in ad dition to the mains feed. Signal leads should be operated as a galvanically universe isolated from the mains voltage, however DALI is not compatible with SELV (safety extralow voltage)systems. For installation, cables and connec tions rated for 230 V must be used. The common stranding of control and mains cables is ad mitted. Control cables can be connected at any polarity. The standby power is lower than 0.5 W. DMX control DMX (Digital Multiplex) is a digital,unidirectional light control protocol. It performs rapid control of LED fittings, dimming, moving heads and media facades. DMX is characterized by rugged wiring and safe data transfer. The DMX operation requires a cat5 or 3-core shielded cable with 110 ohm impedance. The data transmission is polarity dependant. A DMX universe consists in 512 channels. Control is pos sible in a 8 or 16 bit mode. RDM (Remote Device Management) allows for a bidirectional com munication between the device and the control unit. Different error feedbacks or a status re port can be implemented. Control by analogue interface 1 10 V Dimming by analogue command using linear steps. Switch ing off by an external relay. Two additional wires are needed in addition to mains feed. The signal leads should be operated as a galvanic universe separated from the mains voltage, but there is no Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) protection. Installation must use cables and connections for 230 V only. The common stranding of control and mains cables is admitted. The control wires have to be connected with the correct polarity +/. Incorrect polarity will cause malfunction. When ordering a lighting system with a special dimming method, the control cable in gen eral is an integral part of the through wiring. Control via building management systems such as BACnet, KNX, LCN or LON require an interface between control and the lighting system. The dimming system of the electronic trans former is to be determined before order. The dimming of fluorescent lamps or LED requires a control cable.

203 400 Technical information 401 LED guide Service and warranty Power Luminous flux Light yield Lifetime Selux specifies the power consumption for all LED luminaires including all operating units as rated power. Selux specifies the luminous flux for all LED luminaires as rated luminous flux. This corresponds to the total luminous flux emitted by luminaires under normal operating conditions. The luminous flux for each Selux LED luminaire type is measured separately for each power level available. This data is recorded as absolute light intensity distribution. To calculate the performance (performance capability), light yield is specified as the ratio between rated luminous flux and rated power. For this the tolerance specified in the current standard is taken into account. Besides this, optimal light direction of Selux LED optics attains better lighting results and lower scatter light percentages than luminaires with similar system light yields. A: Degradation Degradation is loss of luminous flux over operating time. The lifetime of LEDs depends on the corresponding permissible degradation and is expressed as a percentage. B: Abrupt Failure Value Abrupt Failure Value (AFV) is the percentage of LED lights that fail completely within a predicated average rated lifetime (e. g. due to an electrical fault). Every LED luminaire that leaves our company is examined with regard to light colour, luminous flux and power. The data is stored to enable light components to be supplied later that have the same technical parame ters as the initial equipment. See more on selux.com/warranty Loss of luminous flux Maintenance factor Thermal management Light colour Current supply Light colour lifetime Colour reproduction Selux circuit boards with selected LEDs work within an optimal temperature range due to coordinated thermal management, which keeps loss of luminous flux as low as possible over the LED s operating time (degradation). Loss of luminous flux over the operating time can be found in our datasheets in the lighting technology section. The individual maintenance factor can be calculated from this based on scheduled operating time. With Selux Exterior core products, use of monitoring components (NTC Negative Temperature Coefficient) on circuit boards ensures the operating temperature never exceeds the permissible operating temperature at the measuring point (Tc). In exceptional cases where ambient temperature (Ta) increases excessively, the power is reduced by the NTC ensuring the LED does not suffer any damage or age prematurely. Selux LED luminaires are available in narrow shades of light colours. This ensures that the light colours of all luminaires with the same or a similar correlative colour temperature (CCT) are perceived as being identical. With Selux My White circuit boards, the customer can control the light colour. This can vary between warm white and daylight white. Besides the luminous flux, the efficiency of an LED luminaire essentially depends on the intensity of the operating current. As the current supply increases, the absolute luminous flux increases too. Both efficiency and lifetime will decrease however. At Selux, all LEDs are powered at a current level that is well below the permissible limit value for LEDs. Selux quality standards require the use of premium quality LEDs and sustainable thermal management. This enables consistent light colours within very narrow tolerance ranges. Quality of colour reproduction is expressed using the Color Rendering Index (CRI). Colour reproduction of LEDs is better than with conventional illuminants in most cases. Depending on the application, Selux can supply various levels of colour reproduction: Examples: Architectural spotlighting: > 80 Roadway lighting: > 70 Museum lighting: > 90 Replacement Dimmability/light control With Selux LED module tracking the luminous flux of replacement modules can be adapted, ensuring the appearance and lighting technology characteristics of the overall system stay the same. All LED luminaires are suitable for control via DALI and in some cases via DMX too, enabling maximum system efficiency and creating versatile design options. Photobiological safety When using Selux LED luminaires, photobiological hazards, in particular due to Blue Light Hazard, can be reliably precluded. 206 406 Technical information Optical systems 407 Tritec Optic It combines three light-guidance methods in a single optics system The Tritec Optic is a combined prism and reflector optics system that provides intensive highlights, a particularly high quality look and concise visual aesthetics. Depending on lighting requirements the Tritec Optic may consist of several modules stacked on top of one another and is available with symmetrical or asymmetrical light distribution according to the task. The LEDs are arranged in a ring and aligned horizontally to the roadway so that the light generated is predominantly directed to the working plane. The LEDs are encased by prismatic rings, which guide the light and reduce glare. Under these rings is the hexagonal reflector cone, the concave shape of which together with a scaled surface structure enables optimum direction of light. This type of combined light direction gives the light generated a calming qualitiy, which is rounded off by the intensive highlights on the reflector surfaces.
