2 ONYX 11 can setup which cutter marks are listed and customize mark-placement settings. These options provide better control of the cutter marks within ONYX 11. The customization available will vary based on cutter mark type. This document will discuss the cutter mark options and how they work. RIP-Queue - Manage Cutters The cut mark settings are found in ONYX 11 RIP-Queue. Go to the File menu and select Manage Cutters. The Cutter Manager shows list of all possible cutter mark types. Next to each cutter mark is a check box. If the mark is checked it will be available in the Contour Cutter Selection list for Quick Sets and Job Properties. Deselecting the marks will limit the Contour Cutter Selection choices. This can make it easier for the print operator to setup a print job with the correct cutter marks. In Cutter Manager, the cutter mark options can be adjusted. These options control mark position, intermediate mark locations, barcodes, etc. The options listed are not availble with all cutter marks. The table at the end of this document will list the cutter marks and the options availble. Figure 1: Cutter Manager in RIP-Queue Cut Mark Settings The table below lists the cutter mark options and their functionality. Mark Option Results Additional Information ONYX Barcode Turns the default ONYX barcode on or off Option is in most cutter marks. If it is not listed, it can be turned off with the Barcode to Print option Barcode to Print Prints the ONYX or specific manufacturer barcodes This option provides a drop down menu with None, ONYX and a manufacturer specific barcode Large Barcode Enlarges the barcode and barcode text Barcode and text increase in size Mark Thickness Adjusts the thickness of the marks Mark thickness can be thicker or thinner than the default options. Restricted to manufacturer specifications Mark Height Adjusts the height of the marks Adjusts the Y (height) of the marks. The adjustable range is dependent on manufacturer specifications Mark Width Adjusts the width of the marks Adjusts the X (width) of the marks. The adjustable range is dependent on manufacturer specifications Mark X Margin Mark Y Margin Changes the marks printing positions in the print width direction. Based on the left side of the material Changes the marks printing positions in the print lenght direction. Based on the top side of the material The value entered does not include the margin the printer may need. Cutter marks that use this option will not have the option for width intermediate marks Enables the intermediate marks in the X (width) marks Enables the intermediate marks in the Y (length) marks This option is listed only when the Print Intermediate Marks option is present This will be available when Print Intermediate X Marks is listed. These are marks printed in the print width direction This will be available when Print Intermediate Y Marks is listed. These are marks printed in the print length direction Details on Mark and Image Margins Image and Mark Margins values are relative to the material s left and top sides. This means the values entered will shift the marks or images to the right or printhead scan direction, and down or printer s feed direction. The values do not include the required margin the printer may need. The point where the printer beings to print is where the margins will start. If the Mark X and Mark Y Margins are set to 0.00 and the printer requires 0.25 inches on the left and top before it starts to print, the first mark will print 0.25 inches from the physical left and top edges. Changing the Mark X and Y Margins to 0.25 inches will shift the marks down and to the right by 0.25 inches. The first mark will print 0.50 inches from the physical left and top edges of the material. As the Mark Margins are adjusted, the Image Margins may also adjust. This is due to the cutter requiring some space between the marks and the image. The distance will vary based on cutter marks and manufacturer specifications. This relationship also prevents marks from moving within the boundaries of the image, resulting in cut paths placed outside the cutter marks. As the Image X and Y Margins are adjusted, there is no change to the Mark X and Y Margins. This is due to the first cutter mark s position. The first cutter mark in Figure 1 does not move. The image and other marks will move. If the Image X Margin was changed to 1 inch, the first mark prints in the same spot as before. The next mark in the Y direction will also print in the same place. The image will shift one inch creating a wider gap between the image and the two marks on the left. The marks to the image s right will shift as well. The gap between the image and the marks to the right will equal the gap on the image s left. The distance between the marks and the image will be the same for the X direction. This is also true when the Image Y Margin

4 value is changed. In the scenarios listed above, the marks will have the same distance in the X or Y directions. The marks on the left and right will have the same X distance and the marks top and bottom will have the same Y directions. The distance for X and Y are independent of each other. The general rule is the image will be in the center of the marks. This behavior also applies to all intermediate marks used. Adjusting the Mark and Image Margins can be useful to add offset to a job before the marks start to print. This can be done while leaving non-cut jobs to nest without having any offset applied.
