2 OBM TM Highly efficient full-support blocking for all lens processing steps including coating. On-Block Manufacturing OBM TM integrates all processes using a single block for fastest production times, enabling either totally automated in-line production or an easy and efficient way to manually manufacture ophthalmic lenses in smallest spaces. OBM TM, based on proven Nucleo technology, utilizes an organic block-piece and UV-curable adhesive instead of tape and alloy. It is not only a full surface support and environmentally friendly blocking technique, it also allows ultimate process integration because the lens stays on one block-piece through all manufacturing steps - including hard- and AR-coating. This dramatically cuts manufacturing times to less than 2 hours or even less than 30 minutes in the manual version. The Nucleo blocking process: First, adhesive is dosed onto an organic Nucleo block-piece, then, using patented spatial prism technology, a front side AR-coated blank is lowered into the adhesive, followed by UV curing. The result: full support spatial blocking that eliminates block rings, alloy, and its 60 minute cooling period. The full support and front side protection of the lens with the machinable block-piece offers highest accuracy and improved yields, especially when surfacing complex lens designs. To implement, different Satisloh equipment packages from blocking through surfacing, coating, finishing and deblocking for both fully-automated and manual are available. Standard Satisloh surfacing and manual coating machines can be upgraded to the Nucleo version. Back Side Digital Surfacing Prior to the development of digital surfacing and back side progressive designs (PAL), the number of SKU s (stock-keeping units) for front side cast progressive blanks was huge. Each PAL design, add power, base curve, and lens material required a different semi-finished lens blank. With digital back side surfacing, a lab can dramatically reduce its lens SKU s from thousands to just dozens. This change in optical manufacturing now makes it feasible to stock lens blanks in both a hard-coated and a front side AR-coated version. Combine this with, and labs can integrate all production steps while focusing solely on processing the back side of lenses, reducing the number of process steps, complexity, production time and cost dramatically.

3 Automated loading and unloading Automated The fully-automated OBM TM no touch solution enables totally automated in-line production, including coating and finishing. This groundbreaking technology enables labs to reach new levels of efficiency, profitability, and productivity for high volume lens production (approximately 75 lenses/hour). And it takes less than two hours to finalize a job from order entry to shipment. The complete product line cuts the number of process steps in half: Eliminating taping and tape removal, deblocking and batching for coating and re-blocking for edging. In blocking, the fast UV-cure adhesive instead of slow cooling alloy saves even more time. Manual offers a profitable solution for entry into digital lens production (including hard- and AR-coating) or for establishing a separate express line. It is easy to operate and ensures production stability in all kinds of environments. Because of its minimal space requirements (25 m²/270 ft²) and fast processing, it can be installed in the direct vicinity of the point of sale, enabling high speed service to the end customer.
