Call to Order - Welcome - Introductions - Roll Call of Experts Announcements The meeting was called to order at 0900 by David McDowell, convener. Review and approve minutes of last meeting The Working Group reviewed the minutes of the September 2011 meeting (N 1456) held in Berlin, Germany. There being no corrections, the minutes were approved as distributed. 5. Open Partially completed Step 1 (N 1476) 6. Status of documents and pending projects (N 1479) McDowell Mr. McDowell reviewed N1479 which had been distributed prior to the meeting. He apologized to Mr. Urabe for tardiness in preparing the DIS ballot for which is still in preparation. He expects that the three WG2 standards that are currently in periodic review (ISO 12639, and ISO ) will be reaffirmed as they stand. N1476 includes a listing of all published standards that are the responsibility of WG Report on status of work of WG2 Task Forces and JWGs 7a TF2 PDF/X Mr. Isaacs reviewed the status of work in TC130/WG2/TF2 (PDF/X). He reported that TF2 is currently between standards. The 2nd edition of ISO :2010 Graphic technology Prepress digital data exchange using PDF Part 7: Complete exchange of printing data (PDF/X-4) and partial exchange of printing data with external profile reference (PDF/X-4p) using PDF 1.6 has been published and has been well received. Recently a concern has been reported with the ECI Altona Test Suite 2.0 transparency test. Some ambiguities have been identified in the referenced parent PDF spec which is PDF Version 1.6. The path forward is not clear because current PDF documentation is ISO which is based on PDF 1.7. It is expected that this will be resolved during the WG2/TF2 meeting this week. Going forward, before the next major revision, WG2/TF2 will deal with a variety of minor issues such as properly viewing files.

5 7b TF4 XMP The chair of WG2 TF4, Alan Lillich, is retiring from Adobe and will be stepping down. There is no report from TF4 which will be meeting later in the week. 7c JWG 7 ISO/FDIS Mr. McDowell reported that ISO Image technology colour management Architecture, profile format and data structure Part 1: Based on ICC.1:2010 has been published and the working group is waiting for possible additions by the ICC for a revised version. No specific specification work currently underway related to ISO Mr. Revie mentioned that the ICC has identified a desire to standardize black point compensation in a new document. Work is ongoing to resolve questions related to the Adobe approach and to develop an ICC technical document. Action item: McDowell to distribute ICC documents on black point compensation to WG 2. 7d JWG 9 ISO/DIS (Scene referred images) Mr. McDowell reported that ISO Graphic technology Prepress digital data exchange Part 5: Scene-referred standard colour image data (RIMM/SCID, is currently being prepared for distribution as a DIS. 8. Review status of ISO Graphic technology Colour data exchange format (CxFx) 8a Part 1: Relationship to CxF3 Mr. Cheydleur reported that there is a question regarding the proper notation to identify which weighting factors were used in Part 1. Mr. McDowell stated that 1.1 should be the default weighting factor. After discussion, it was agreed to submit Part 1 of ISO to the TC130 Secretariat for a simultaneous new work item and CD ballot. Action item 12-02: McDowell and Cheydleur to prepare the paperwork to submit ISO to TC130 for initiation of the NWI/CD ballot Mr. Urabe asked if additional information could be included with the NWI ballot to make it easier for National Bodies to respond to the NWI ballot (ISO Form 5). He indicated that he understood that there were new requirements in the current ISO Directives. Action item12-03: McDowell to investigate and circulate the proper procedure for a national body to approve a NWI ballot (Form 5) 8b Part 2: Scanner target data Mr. Cheydleur described a proposed informative annex which would show the minimum number of specifications in a custom resource required to communicate a target layout. He showed tag name and type for 20 types of data. Mr. Revie pointed out that he was showing allowed values in the type column and that he should add type (string etc.) as the second column and move the allowed values to a third column. Mr. Revie

6 stated that a data type was required to allow the identification of optional patches. This issue is also applicable to Part 3. The working group discussed the section on General Description of a CxF file. The question was how these specific parts of relate to Part 1 when other outside data is also present. They must comply with Part 1 but can also go beyond the core data and add custom data. 8c Part 3: Output target data Mr. Cheydleur described a proposed informative annex with the minimum number of specifications in a custom resource to communicate a target layout. The same modifications were made as with part 2. Mr. Khoury asked if ISO can handle additional extended (extra-trinary) overprinted colour spaces. Mr. Cheydleur and Mr. McDowell suggested that this standard could be restricted to four process colours and extra colour sets could be addressed in additional parts of ISO After some discussion the working group agreed to expand the annex to discuss the optional proper treatments of extended colour spaces. Action item 12-04: Smiley and Khoury to develop an informative Annex to ISO addressing the minimum number of specifications to give the same data treatments for multicolour colour spaces and proper optional treatments of the data The tag, type, and allowed value chart for both parts 2 and 3 were generated for inclusion in future drafts. Part 4: Spot colour characterization data Mr. Revie led the discussion on ISO which identifies the measurement data required to totally define a spot colour. The process involves printing a scale over a specified substrate and pre-printed black with three levels of compliance and a schema for reporting data. Part 4 is ready for publication pending approval of Part 1. After discussion, it was agreed to submit Part 4 of ISO to TC130 and request a new work item at CD status. Action item 12-05: McDowell and Revie to prepare a NWI proposal and the paperwork necessary for to go to ballot as a CD by June 1 Action item 12-06: Cheydleur to check that can be rationalized in nomenclature with X-Rite Pantone live Action item 12-07: Urabe to discuss the ISO concept with TC 42 and report their comments to WG2 at the next meeting 9. ISO (Preparation and visualization of RGB images) 9a Review RoV and WD Comments Mr. Urabe led the discussion on ISO Graphic technology Prepress data exchange Preparation and visualization of RGB images to be used in RGB-based graphics arts workflows. He reported that voting on the NWI ballot closed on 12/16/11 and the document was approved as a working draft. Comments were received from the US, Great Britain, Japan and China. During a review of the proposed resolution of comments (N1482) Mr. Urabe stated that he will shorten the introduction to the proposed workflow and move the rest into an informative annex. His entire report is available as TC130WG2N1483.

7 Action item 12-08: McDowell to identify the authors of US 3 and 6 of the RoC (N1482) for ISO to determine their intention and ask that they help redraft the section Mr. Urabe will remove any definitions of terms that are not used in the document. The definition of RGB additive colour space was discussed (Comment CN5) and it was agreed that it should be simplified. Action item 12-09: Green and Urabe to simplify the definition of RGB colour spaces to suit the application in ISO Mr. Urabe will remove Annex B because it deals with certification. After a discussion it was agreed to use the term DSC for digital still camera and to include it in terms and definitions. The implication of JPEG compression in terms of the allowed file formats to exchanging files was discussed and it was agreed that it should remain in the standard. Also discussed were the implications of register to this workflow. It was agreed that there will be absolute register tolerance with a should and the addition of a note regarding the problems associated with viewing and image size. 9b Status of CD draft Action item 12-10: Urabe to complete the proposed resolution of comments for ISO and provide a proposed draft for CD by June 15 Action item 12-11: Orf to circulate the proposed CD draft of ISO to WG2for comments by July 15 Action Item 12-12: Urabe to prepare a draft of ISO based on comments received from AI for CD ballot as a CD by August Report on proposed NWIP from the Ghent PDF Workgroup, (Metadata for graphic arts workflow Part 1: XMP metadata for image and document proofing) (N 1465) Mr Revie reported that the Ghent PDF Workgroup has a soft proofing workflow which can use the metadata developed for ISO He stated that at the last GWG meeting it was agreed to work on combining the metadata from the two sources. The working group reviewed the document Metadata for graphic arts workflow (WG2/TF4N0029). Mr. Revie is currently reviewing the resulting that document for problems and discrepancies. It was noted that this would be the first graphic arts specific XMP standard. The relevance of the data to vendors was discussed and it was felt that all that is required of a vendor product is to pass it through to be used for pre-flight etc. It was noted that since XMP will fulfil this need the development of the standard was assigned WG2/TF4. NOTE: During the WG2/TF4 meeting this document was sent back to WG2 proper as the best place to progress this work. Action Items WG2/TF through deal with this project and will need to be followed up in WG2. Essentially WG2/TF4 recommended that once some minor checks were completed this document should be submitted for a NWI ballot. 11. Review WG2 documents in 2012 periodic review 11a ISO :2002 Graphic technology Prepress digital data exchange Use of PDF Part 3: Complete exchange suitable for colour-managed workflows (PDF/X-3)

8 Mr. McDowell reviewed the history and applicability of this standard. The working group discussed the possibility of eliminating ISO in favour of ISO which is based on PDF 1.4 (vs. PDF 1.3) but decided that this would not be feasible. The WG 2 recommendation is to reaffirm ISO b ISO 12639:2004, Graphic technology Prepress digital data exchange Tag image file format for image technology (TIFF/IT) Mr. McDowell reviewed the history and applicability of this standard. It was agreed that there is no justification to revise. Japan has discovered some editorial needs and a list of proposed corrections will be circulated. The WG 2 recommendation will be to reaffirm ISO with corrections. Action item 12-13: Matsuki to supply a list of editorial corrections for ISO 12639:2004 to McDowell and Rosenthol including TIFF/EP Action item 12-14: McDowell to circulate the list of editorial corrections to WG2 Experts with a recommendation. 11c ISO :2004 Graphic technology Prepress digital data exchange Part 2: XYZ/sRGB standard colour image data (XYZ/SCID) Mr. McDowell reviewed the history and applicability of this standard. The WG2 recommendation is to reaffirm ISO d ISO 28178:2009, Graphic technology Exchange format for colour and process control data using XML or ASCII text Mr. McDowell reviewed the history and applicability of this standard. The WG 2 recommend is to reaffirm ISO Review of possible new work Mr. Revie and Mr. Khoury introduced the concept of a standard system for calibration data for printing plates to be used by RIP vendors. Currently there are separate formats for each plate and workflows must be adjusted for each type of plate. A standard would be beneficial. This would include the minimum data that is required by all plates and metadata so that plate curve data can be used in the correct context. They are gathering a list of the various needs from industry experts. They will submit a proposal to the vendors and propose an XML file format that includes retained data and metadata. Mr. McDowell questioned the context in which the data would be required. In practice, this would mean that correction factors for different plate systems would all be the same to achieve the same correction. (See N1476) Action item 12-15: Revie and Khoury to refine their spreadsheet on plate data format standard by the next meeting and complete a skeleton document by August Reports on work in other TCs impacting TC a CIE TC 1-57 Mr. McDowell reported that TC1-57 has completed the full set of CIE/ISO standards (CIE 014/ISO 11664) which are available through CIE and ISO. ISO consists of the following parts, under the general title Colorimetry: Part 1: CIE standard colorimetric observers
