The method requires 10 print samples per extension. This results in at least 50 prints per ink. This is regarded to be too much work. From some Page 1 of 5

3 ISO TC 130/WG 4 N 686 experience the number of 10 prints may be not sufficient, France determined a minimum of 200. Proposal: assume a family of ink is constant. Perform the ink film thickness determination only on one colour of the family at 80/20 let-down-ratio. How to deal with UV inks in this case? They have large difference in viscosity in one set. Some of the UV-flexo inks may be tested like paste inks. How to define liquid ink or ink necessarily covered by ISO ? Action item Barros, Bertholdt, Carnelli, Smiley: Check with the local ink manufacturers if the current document ISO WD rev. (N 0679) is practicable with respect to the determination of the ink film thickness. Look into the need of adding a limit of the viscosity of liquid inks for the purpose of the ink film thickness determination. Determine if UV inks can be treated the same way as other ink types. 8.2 ISO 2846 general (test paper replacement for APCO) Mr. Lanat: New production trail is scheduled to improve the gloss of the new paper. The current version was less suitable for gravure (large number of missing dots). The new batch will be produced during the summer and test results are expected before the next meeting. 8.3 ISO Graphic technology Colour and transparency of printing ink sets for four colour printing Part 3: Gravure printing (N 586, N 583, N 563, N 559) USA shows no interest in this document, no need. EU data received, no appropriate Japanese data given so far but still expected. Additional input from ERA and Japan is to be awaited. Further discussion is postponed to the next meeting. 8.4 ISO Graphic technology Colour and transparency of printing ink sets for four-colour-printing Part 4: Screen printing (N 591) Incorporation of light fast inks was proposed by Fogra already during the St.Gallen meeting. Fogra provided additional information to the US. Input from UK is expected, input from JP and USA requested. Further discussion is postponed to the next meeting. 8.5 ISO Graphic technology Colour and transparency of printing ink sets for four colour printing Part 5: Flexographic printing (N 617) Document WD d4 from Danny Rich (absent) was discussed. In Table 1 are no data on light fast UV inks so far. Suggestion is to change de2000 tolerance of the inks to 3,5 instead of 3. Rich. 8.6 ISO Graphic technology Determination of tack of paste inks and vehicles by a rotary tack meter (N 638) Mr. de Groot informed on work already started and announced a first proposal within about 2 months 8.7 ISO Graphic technology Blankets for offset printing (N 668, N 659) The US appointed Mr. Arrington as expert, Japan still needs to appoint an expert. So far no document has been prepared. 8.8 ISO CD Graphic technology Communication of graphic paper properties (N 671, N 670) Ballot resulted in 2 No-votes: USA, SE. Luc Lanat presents the resolution of comments. - fluorescence: this is a property of the paper relevant to the printer and it SHOULD be communicated according to method 2, remove method 1 and 3. - use CIELAB consistently throughout the document After Phil Greens linguistic review the document will be issued for DIS ballot with the intention to discuss the outcome during the Chicago meeting week (new timeline for DISballots from June 2012 on: 3 month). Action item Lanat: Find the most appropriate method to determine and communicate fluorescence Action item Green: Review the document ISO DIS for proper English 8.9 Project in ISO TC 42: ISO DIS Imaging materials Printed imaging materials Determination of abrasion, scuff, and smudge resistance of printed colour images (N 678, N 669) Problem with the scope: should be restricted to photographic images or include participation of TC 130! The WG requests the convener to bring this subject formally to the Chair of TC42 and ask for the change in the scope to: This IS specifies tests to determine the abrasion, scuff and smudge resistance of photographic images. Bertholdt will go back to get information from Germany and report on how to proceed on next meeting ISO/AWI Graphic technology method for Radius Determination of printing cylinders (N 657, N 656) New comments delivered after the WD vote will be integrated into the document which will be issued for CD ballot latest end of May to be finished before the meeting in October. 9 Future projects No proposals 10 Systematic Reviews in 2012 (deadline ) (N 676) ISO 2836:2004 Graphic Technology Prints and printing inks Assessment of resistance of prints to various agents No recommendations for changes.
