BAT Oxygen sensors are light sensitive devices. Avoid prolonged exposure to UV light, as this will minimize the effectiveness of the luminiphore dye, leading to limited life or failure of the sensor. Carefully inspect the products immediately upon arrival. If there are missing or damaged items contact the factory or shipping insurance company immediately. 3 Products Covered in this Manual This product manual provides information about Barben Analyzer Technology s B3907 series in-line oxygen sensor and specifically the consumable and replaceable oxygen sensor cap, B3907-(xxxx). The B3907-(xxxx) series cap includes a preassembled replacement cap and an o-ring replacement for the 4401 OXY Precision Optical Oxygen Analyzer s 120 mm in-line oxygen sensor. The scope of this manual covers the installation and replacement for the B3907-(xxxx) series replacement cap. The sensor cap replacement can be ordered complete as new with the part number shown below. 4 Basic Installation Guidelines KEEP THE OPTICAL WINDOW CLEAN. DO NOT TOUCH. Do not introduce dirt, debris, condensate or other foreign contaminants on to the optical window. The Luminiphore and optical isolation on the optical window are delicate. DO NOT SCRATCH OR DAMAGE THE OPTICAL WINDOW. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE SENSOR CAP. The sensor cap should be firmly tightened by hand. Over tightening the cap may result in damage to the cap housing or to the o-ring on the sensor body. Keep the optical window inside the UV resistant bag until the time of installation. Installation Prep Removal of the cap will generate an error (e.g. Error Code 2). Communicate actions and appropriate response with the control room per facility procedures. Inspect the sensor cap. Look for visible signs of damage (e.g. deformation, cuts, corrosion) on the metal housing of the cap. Inspect the soft black dye (e.g. optical isolation) on the tip of the sensor for damage (e.g. scratches) to ensure the integrity of the reading from the analyzer. Remove the labeling on the outside of the cap. Wear appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE). Isolate the sensor from the process by closing the valves. Follow appropriate procedures to ensure against the release of process materials into the environment. Installation 1. Remove the sensor assembly from the process by unthreading the sensor using the assembly mounting nut (#7). 2. Clean the sensor and the housing (#6) with a damp cloth to remove residual process material. 3. Unscrew the depleted cap from the tip of the sensor. 4. Inspect the o-ring (#5) on the sensor stem for damage. Replace the o-ring if necessary. 5. Loosen the wand adjustment nut (#8) until the wand of the sensor can slide freely inside of the sensor housing (#6). 6. Slide the wand of the sensor forward, through the sensor housing (#6), towards the direction of the cap. Insert the wand so that the threads of the wand adjustment nut sit flush against the threads of the compression fitting. NOTE: The polymer optic fiber should protrude from the open end of the sensor housing (#6). - continued on next page 4

5 7. Position the replacement cap on the tip of the sensor. 8. Screw the cap on to the sensor. NOTE: As the cap is fastened to the sensor housing (#6), the cap will contact and adjust the position of the wand inside the housing (#6). 9. Fasten the sensor cap hand-tight. 10. Maintain the position of the wand with respect to the sensor housing (#6), and fasten the wand adjustment nut (#8) hand-tight. NOTE: Do not swage or over-tighten the wand adjustment nut (#8). 11. Carefully insert the sensor assembly into the process line. Avoid contact and damage to the tip. 12. Tighten the sensor assembly at the mounting nut (#7), and open the valve to the process line. Regular Maintenance Ensure that the sensor is clean and free of debris. Clean the sensor tip with clean water (i.e. tap, distilled). Heavier accumulations can be cleaned by soaking the sensor in water and cleaning with a cloth or cotton swab. Ensure that the soft, black portion of the sensor tip is free from damage. Damage to the nose cap may render the sensor inoperable or may affect the accuracy of the readings from the analyzer. Ensure that the cap of the sensor is secured to the sensor shaft. An accumulation of moisture inside the sensor may render the sensor inoperable. DO NOT attempt to clean the device with the use of a wire brush, screwdriver, sand paper or other method that may damage the tip of the sensor. DO NOT apply excessive torque to the cap or shaft of the sensor. Damage to the sensor may occur.
