The #1400 fold box, pictured below, is our standard packaging for individual twist pens or pencils and is provided to you free of charge. From September through December, a special Season s Greetings box is offered at no charge as well, lending a festive flair to your program at no extra cost. Our #1600 series hinged box holds individual pens or pencils and is molded from a sturdy polyresin. The #1900 and #1300 greytone designer boxes are quite distinctive and are available for all individual writing instruments or combination sets. Writing instruments fit snugly in shaped inserts in all greytone boxes. Garland also offers an attractive presentation box, #1700 series, which holds twelve writing instruments from our Photo Logo Collections, each packaged in a glass tube. This option offers a unique showcase for pens to be given on special occasions, or as executive gifts or a thank you following a meeting. Like greeting cards, the covers are preprinted with different messages appropriate for a variety of occasions. Open the packet, and you ll find a foam panel in which your individual pen or combination set is inserted. You can leave the left panel blank for a handwritten message or talk to us about imprinting the packet with a custom message. The packets are then slipped into a sleeve at no additional charge for a very effective presentation. Gift packets add a special touch and value to any program. Stock gift packets can be used for many occasions, including employee awards and recognition, gifts for associations new members, special packaging for direct marketing premiums, fundraising, holiday gifts or simply to say thank you to your customers. If you choose to have Garland typeset artwork, we will select the style, size and format that is most effective graphically. If you like, you may indicate your preference of typestyle shown on page 31. If artwork is not submitted to size, we assume you want us to format new artwork. Also, if handwritten copy is submitted, we will assume you want us to typeset and format the artwork unless clearly noted otherwise. 17 Custom Gift Packets Imprinted Gift Packets For one-of-a-kind programs, we can imprint your artwork, logo and message on the cover of our gift packets as well as on the inside cover. Like the stock gift packets, the pen you choose is inserted in the foam panel. The packets hold your choice of an individual pen or a combination of two writing instruments and are slipped into a sleeve at no charge. Artwork for Imprinted Packets Color-Separated Black & White Artwork Required All we need to produce these imprinted gift packets is camera-ready black and white artwork properly sized. The front and inside panel dimensions are 4-3/8 x 5-15/16. The maximum imprint area is 3 x 5. The Garland guarantee and packet series number appears on the back of the packet in black ink. For imprint copy, two options are available: submit camera-ready artwork or have Garland typeset your message. Submitting camera-ready art to size is the most economical way to imprint your message. If your imprinted message contains a custom logo or specific typestyle, please send camera-ready black and white artwork to size. If Garland provides typesetting or layout, we will select the style, size and format that is most effective graphically. You may indicate your preference of typestyle shown on page 31. The cost for Garland to layout and typeset your imprint message is extra and includes a faxed paper proof for approval. Imprinting costs are based on simple art renderings without bleeds, full reverses or other more extensive printing needs. For packets requiring more than three colors imprinted on either front cover or inside panel, please call for a quote. Hot stamping is not available. Gift packets requiring process colors, full reverses, bleeds, heavy ink coverage or close registration will require special quotes. Please submit artwork or rendering of layout allowing three working days for a quote. The minimum order for these special printing runs is 500 packets. Custom Photo Gift Packets Full-Color Artwork Required A photo gift packet is an inexpensive alternative to our stock and imprinted packets when full-color or complex artwork is required for your promotional or gift presentations. We will mount full-color renditions of product literature, ads or artwork on the front of a white panel gift packet. Submit a full color sample of the item you wish to reproduce and specify either vertical or horizontal orientation. Sample for Approval/Production Time: A sample for approval is required for all photo packets at an additional cost. Please allow 4-5 working days for production. Your order will be shipped approximately 7-10 working days from approval of proof. When ordering, please indicate your desired typestyle for each line of copy by using the numbers listed below. Actual typestyles are shown. The chart is printed for reference only. Its purpose is to show the maximum number of characters (letters and spaces) that are available per inch of imprint for each of the typestyles offered. These typestyles are not offered for engraving on metal items. Please refer to pages for engraving fonts and information. Faxed artwork is not acceptable. Please do not or send artwork to size since we will reduce your art to fit the copy area. Larger art provides better resolution for detailed and small copy. Whether submitting artwork by mail, digitally or by , the size for optimum reproduction is 2 x 4. We can accept both PC and Macintosh file formats. Minimum of 300dpi. Vector artwork, with all text converted to outlines, should be sent in EPS format to expedite your order and avoid possible artwork or make-ready charges. TIFF, AI and other file formats may be acceptable; please call our customer service specialists with your file formats prior to submission. Artwork may be ed to: artwork@garlandpen.com. This collection was the first series introduced with the flared dome design and continues to be very popular. The high-gloss molded resin barrel distinguishes the Founder s Collection from all other Garland pens. Information on this page pertains to barrel imprinting requirements and suggestions for our Founder's Collection only, the 390 and 395 series. One-Color Imprint on High Gloss Resin Barrel (Black & White Artwork Required) Minimum of 50 pens or pencils per barrel color, imprint copy and imprint color. Imprint Set-Up There are several tips we'd like to share with you for imprint set-up. Keep in mind that the taper of the barrel on the Founder s Collection ( Series) will affect the appearance of your imprint copy. Your choice of barrel color combined with an ink color will also affect the appearance of your message. Choose your barrel color and imprint color carefully so there is adequate contrast and a pleasing color combination. Barrel colors are shown on page 14. Silver (or gold) ink is highly recommended instead of white as it provides much better coverage and clarity to the imprint copy. Standard Imprint Ink Colors for Founder s Collection Ink colors available: White, Black, Silver, Gold, Process Blue, Reflex Blue,Yellow PMS108, Orange PMS1505, Warm Red, Bright Red PMS 185, Maroon PMS 201, Pink PMS 225, Purple PMS 2597, Dark Blue PMS 281, Medium Blue PMS 300, Teal PMS 320, Dark Green PMS 3415, Medium Green PMS 347, Buff PMS 141, Brown PMS 463 and Dark Grey PMS 11. The PMS numbers listed above are closest approximate PMS colors when printed on white barrels. Close as possible requests will be imprinted with one of the above standard ink colors. All other colors are considered a color match. Samples for approval are strongly recommended for your initial order especially when very close color matches are required. Actual imprint color may vary slightly from color chart, from exact color match request, or on repeat orders. Color Match for Imprinted Inks Minimum of 250 units for first time formulation of custom color ink. Minimum quantity for repeat orders is 50 pens or pencils. Mixing charge additional for new and repeat orders. Imprint Size and Imprint Typestyles If black and white artwork is not available, Garland can typeset your message. It is important that you provide your desired message in typewritten form to avoid spelling and spacing errors. For the most pleasing barrel imprint, we recommend no more than three typestyles. You can choose from the typestyles on the previous page indicating point size for each line. Unless specifically requested, all lines of copy will be centered. Please keep in mind that the maximum imprint area on the barrel is 1-1/4 wide x 1 high. See graphic in margin on page

21 Laser Engraving - Standard Fonts There are two options for engraving on metal items: standard laser text engraving or laser logo engraving. With standard laser engraving, you choose from nine different typestyles. This is your most economical and simple choice. Your second option is laser logo engraving where your actual logo, image or corporate typestyle is engraved into the metal. There are additional artwork requirements and a one time set-up charge associated with laser logo engraving. Please refer to page 36 for details. The information on these two pages pertains only to our nine standard engraving fonts. Standard Laser Font Engraving First, let s start with simple and economical standard font engraving which is available for our Colour, Revere, Tuscany, Monogram, and Signature Collections and our Jazz and Maxx Series of writing instruments. A maximum of 28 characters and spaces can be engraved per line. The engraving appears on the barrel of our USA Collections and the cap of the Jazz and Maxx. Many Gallery Gift Items can be engraved, although the maximum number of characters will vary from item to item depending on the size of the copy area. Please refer to our Gallery product details presented on pages and 38. Your first line of standard font engraving is free, and this line can be a repetitive message or individual names. There is no extra cost for personalization. So, yes, that means we can process an order and engrave a different name on each item. And it's free! (Catalog minimum order quantities must be met for each series.) To avoid spelling errors and confusion with upper/lower case letters, we request that you submit a typewritten list of names or copy to be engraved. Keep in mind that lists typed in CAPS will be engraved in caps unless otherwise instructed. Whenever possible, please send names via in either excel, word or a comma delimited format as faxed lists can be very difficult to read. Also, all engraving is done at the time the order is placed and processed. Due to our production methods, items cannot be held for future engraving. Your choice of engraving styles appears below. Please note: One engraving style per line. Two styles per order. On light-colored barrels in our Colour Collection, such as pearl and golden, the engraving is subtle. We encourage you to use our dark tint engraving at an additional charge per piece. Also, the caps of our Maxx series and the satin chrome Jazz pens are much enhanced with optional oxidation at an additional charge per piece. Fonts and typestyles other than the nine presented below are considered custom and may be run as a laser logo if black-andwhite copy is submitted for artwork. Please see page 36 for information. 1. 22 Standard Font Engraving on Writing Instruments Two lines of engraving: Two lines of repetitive copy are offered at no charge on items from the Colour, Revere, Tuscany, and Monogram Collections and on our Jazz and Maxx pens. To qualify as repeat copy, the same two lines of text must be engraved on all units within the order. If one line of text is repetitive, and the other line will vary within the order, a charge per line, per piece will be incurred to process the second line of copy. The second line of copy on these series will be centered directly beneath the first line of engraving. Signature Collection: On writing instruments in this Collection, additional lines of engraving will be centered in the panel between the etched lines, not directly beneath the first line of copy. These items therefore have to be engraved twice since both lines of copy cannot be laser engraved at the same time. Due to the extra processing, second lines of standard engraving (repetitive copy or individual names) on the Signature Collection will incur an additional charge per line, per piece. 3 or 4 lines of engraving: Samples for approval are recommended for orders from our Photo Logo Collections requiring 3 or 4 lines of engraving. If all lines are very long, the engraving may appear crooked due to the taper of the barrel. This is especially true when some of the square styles (single line, double line block, broadway) are requested in all CAPS. Due to the pronounced barrel taper on rollerballs, 3 or 4 lines are not recommended. The barrel shown here is an example of standard engraving using our dark tint engraving for a pearl-colored barrel in our Colour Collection. Dark tint engraving for light-colored barrels in our Colour Collection is an additional charge per piece. Oxidation on Maxx and satin chrome Jazz is also additional per piece. Quantities Under Catalog Minimums Occasionally you might need just a few extra writing instruments to solve a big problem. Less than minimum orders are accepted for all models in our USA-made Photo Logo Writing Instrument Collections detailed on pages An additional charge will be added for each item ordered (pens or pencils or rollerballs) that does not meet the stated catalog minimums per model number, per color and per photo logo. Laser logo engraving and barrel imprint is not offered on less than minimum orders. Less than minimum not available on Jazz and Maxx pens. Optional Engraving Upgrade on the Founder s Collection Engraving on the metal cap of the 390 and 395 series in our Founder s Collection is available at an additional charge. 23 Laser Logo Engraving on Writing Instruments For brand promotions or corporate awareness programs, the perfect solution is engraving your actual logo, image or a customized typestyle on the selected writing instrument. This can be accomplished with our laser logo engraving option. Laser logo engraving is ideal for a message that sizes well in an area 1-1/3 (35.05mm) long by 7/32 (5.60mm) high. Options for Laser Logo Engraving Our speedy lasers eliminate your per-piece running charges. A one-time programming fee will be charged the first time that you run a laser logo. Non-standard typestyles or fonts are considered a laser logo and are subject to the set-up charge the first time that each different copy or text is run. (See page 34 for our nine standard fonts.) Dark tint engraving is recommended on the light-colored barrels in our Colour Collection at an additional charge per piece. Oxidation is available to enhance your laser logo engraving on the caps of our Maxx series and the satin chrome Jazz pens at an additional charge per piece. The Colour, Revere, Monogram, and Tuscany Collections and the Jazz and Maxx pens provide the maximum area for engraving of laser logo text and copy. Copy will be sized to fit within the 1-1/3 (35.05mm) wide by 7/32 (5.60mm) high area. The Signature Collection can only be engraved in the panels between the etched lines which limits the height of the laser logo to.13 inches (3.30mm). Therefore, not all laser logo art can be successfully engraved on the items in this Collection due to the height restriction. Specialized typestyles or copy that is linear will be most visible. Please contact our customer service specialists with a fax of the layout of your copy prior to requesting a laser logo on orders for items in our Signature Collection. Engraving Copy Added to Laser Logo Copy: The writing instruments in our USA-made Photo Logo Collections permit additional lines of copy in addition to the laser logo. Should you wish to add an extra line of copy, personalized or repetitive, in one of our nine standard engraving fonts, an additional charge per line, per piece will be incurred. We suggest that additional lines of standard engraving be placed on the opposite side of the barrel from the laser logo to avoid problems with alignment, sizing and centering. As always, samples are highly recommended to ensure that you receive exactly what you expect, especially when combining your artwork with our standard engraving. Less Than Minimum orders are not available when laser logo engraving is requested. Artwork Requirements for Laser Logo Engraving Black & White Artwork Required All artwork for engraved laser logos on our metal items must be submitted in high-contrast black and white format. Faxed artwork is not acceptable. Also, artwork should not be sent to size since it will need to be blown-up prior to processing and will likely require significant touch-up and make-ready charges. Larger art provides better resolution for detailed barrel engraving. We take your larger-sized art and reduce it to fit the available copy engraving area. Whether submitting black and white camera-ready artwork by mail, digitally or by , the size for optimum reproduction is 2 x 4. We can accept both PC and Macintosh file formats. Minimum of 300dpi. Vector artwork, with all text converted to outlines, should be sent in EPS format to expedite your order and avoid possible artwork or make-ready charges.
