8 BAGS MEGHAN S. FILTERS / ACCESSORIES SIMON B.. Think Tank Trifecta Backpack We now have in stock the new Think Tank Trifecta 10 DSLR backpack. This very lightweight and versatile backpack is great for hikes, traveling or daily commutes with your gear when you want to have a good selection of lenses but not carry a weighty bag. Its slim profile allows you to easily make your way through crowded areas or on busy transit. This is definitely the lightest of all the ThinkTank backpacks so far, and also a very convenient bag, as you can access all of your gear without ever putting the bag down. Living up to its name, the Trifecta has three different access points to get at your gear, as well as a top access for extra accessories or personal items. Polarizing filters A circular polarizer helps reduce reflections from glass, water and wet or shiny surfaces, which are quite common at this time of year. This often gives an image more vibrant colours because the camera is able to record the details in objects that would otherwise be obscured by reflected light. On sunny days, polarizing filters will also make blue sky appear more saturated. They work best when shooting at a 90 degree angle from the sun, which also means that when used with wide angle lenses, the degree of polarization will vary across the image. You will need to compensate with 2-3 more stops of exposure when using these filters. Linear polarizers will also give you the same effect but will cause the autofocus system and metering in your camera to not work correctly. They work well with older manual focus lenses and medium and large format cameras. The single source LED means it is closer to the quartz halogen lights you might have used in the past, and it creates more pleasing and natural shadows like those created by the sun. Traditional LED panels that are made with many small LED lights have a tendency to create shadows that are stepped and not smooth, especially when placed close to the subject being illuminated. These shadows, which are result of the many individual little light sources, look staggered and often unnatural. The Savage LED 100 has only one larger central LED and is daylight balanced at 5600K. 11 New in Rentals! Nikon 24-70mm f2.8e VR RENTAL NEWS JASON K. We have just received Nikon s new 24-70mm f2.8e VR lens! This new lens ups the ante with higher sharpness, speed, consistency, control and durability plus VR image stabilization technology over the older 24-70mm f2.8g lens. This is a solid lens, a little bit larger than the non-vr version, and also features the built like a tank build quality we have come to expect from Nikon s pro level lenses. $40/day *Due to the electromagnetic aperture mechanism, all film SLR, and older than about 3 year old DSLR bodies will not be compatible with this lens. Canon 35mm f1.4l II USM In addition to the aforementioned Nikon lens, we have also just received the new Canon 35mm f1.4l II USM lens in the rental department! This new lens uses something called Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics, which uses an organic substance to reduce or eliminate chromatic aberrations and colour fringing. This lens also has improved weather and dust resistance over the previous lens, and a fluorine coating on the front element to repel moisture. I tested this lens on a 50MP Canon 5DS, and it is sharp corner to corner, even at f1.4! 12 Film / Analogue NICOLE L-D. Merry Christmas everybody! Just a reminder that we have the Polaroid Camera sale on here at Beau through till January 4th, while stock lasts! Last month I promised photos of the NEW Impossible Project Black & Green Duochrome film, and here they are! I found it similar to the Third Man records Black & Yellow Lots of New Consignments! Please don t forget Beau Photo is putting out new consignments weekly, so come on in and check them out! All things from low end film to high end digital and everything in between! Photography Classes Looking to take some photography classes this winter? Get in touch with the Dunbar Community Centre. They have winter black and white analog photography classes starting January 11 and again on February 22nd. These classes go every Monday evening at 7pm and run for one month. Either session costs $ Duochrome film. A bit on the dark side. But all in all, if you plan for that the results are beautiful! I also lifted the Black & Green Duochrome and found it interesting that the green colour did run into the water a bit, however I liked this because I could rinse the emulsion more and control the teal saturation a little before I put it to paper. So I was able to get a lighter tone. If you would just like to sign up to use the Dunbar Community Centre Darkroom they have orientation nights scheduled at 7pm on January 19th, February 9th and March 8th. If you aren t the type of person that likes learning in a group environment Dunbar Community Centre also offers private lessons. This is nice because private classes are scheduled with the instructor at mutually convenient times. The private lesson costs $150 but is well worth it. This gives you four and a half hours of instruction, and supplies and equipment are provided. Not only is this a wonderful way to learn, it could also be a great way to see if you are ready for the commitment of a home darkroom. If you already have the skills but no darkroom, the Dunbar Community Centre Darkroom is available for rent, you can give them a call at Develop your own film! Price Changes in the New Year No one could have predicted how much the Canadian dollar has declined in the last year. Up until now, Beau has continued to keep the same Canadian dollar price list despite the increased exchange rate (absorbing up to 15%) in order to help our clients out for this year s orders. Even our Canadian manufacturer of folders has had to increase pricing due the higher cost of materials. As of January 1st 2016 we will be increasing the price of all Renaissance albums by 15%. I will be issuing a new price guide as soon as possible. Hopefully your new clients will understand the increase due to the current exchange.
