SUPPLEMENTARY OPERATING MANUAL GENERAL INTRODUCTION Application description Normally the CDP-01 will guide to the edge of a printed line. By monitoring the line sensor, the CDP-01 will switch to the edge sensor when the line sensor has lost the edge of the line and turn on the oscillator, if necessary, to find the line edge. When the line edge is found, the CDP-01 will switch back to the line sensor. It is also possible to use the CDP-01 for standard line edge guiding or for standard edge guiding. Refer to the Sensor selection - Sensor indicator section of this manual to select these modes. Software part numbers The software part numbers are located on the side of the CDP-01 housing. They include the Matrix Setup no. (MS), State Machine no. (SM) and firmware version ( Dx ). D1:5650xx-02x MS: x Please quote these D2: SM: x details with all inquiries. D3: FIFE USA Connecting the system components The system components are to be connected according to the Cable Connection Diagram contained in the documentation.
SUPPLEMENTARY OPERATING MANUAL 1 1-2
2-1 OVERVIEW OF FUNCTION Operator control options The CDP-01 signal amplifier can be operated by way of the CDP-01 control panel (internal operation) for setups, and via the parallel port with a remote control panel or programmable logic controller (external operation) for normal operation control. The symbols below are used for the various operator control options in the following: Internal operation External operation Special features of external control The mode keys (Automatic, Servo-Center, Manual) of the CDP-01 control panel are disabled. Changing modes via external control is not possible when the SETUP function is activated on the internal control panel. If the cable to the parallel port ( -X7 ) of the CDP-01 is disconnected, the last selected mode is retained until new settings are entered on the internal control panel.

2-3 Explanation of the operating modes LOCKOUT Set Lockout. Lockout Note: LOCKOUT mode can only be set via the parallel port. The drive is locked. Check: left and right LED on LED bar and LED for drive 1 flashing. Note: the lockout is only effective in AUTOMATIC mode. MANUAL Manual Press key 3 or select Manual via external control. The drive is switched to Manual. Check: LED (3) lit. Setup functions and sensor modes can be selected. Left Right Press the - or + key to set Left or Right to manually alter the position of the drive.
2-4 AUTOMATIC Set the sensor mode for the selected control loop: Note: only possible in Manual or Servo-Center mode. Reference: Sensor selection - Sensor indicator section, later in this manual. Special line edge guiding with line loss monitor or Standard line edge guiding or Standard edge guiding Press key 1 or select Automatic via external control. Note: Special line edge guiding must be initiated from the parallel port. Automatic Note: The remainder of the steps on this page apply to Special line edge guiding ONLY. The drive is switched to Automatic. Web errors are automatically corrected. The Loss Of Null is monitored for line loss. If the line sensor loses the line edge it is scanning, the sensor mode switches to edge guiding. The ASC function is activated. Check: LEDs (1) and (7) are lit. Note: the ASC function monitors the sensor proportional band of the edge sensor. When the web edge is detected, the sensor mode switches to special edge guiding and the ASC function switches to monitor the line sensor. If the line edge is not detected immediately, the oscillator is turned on to move the web. When the line sensor detects the line edge, the oscillator turns off, the ASC function is deactivated, and the system returns to the special line edge sensor mode. The system gain can be altered, if desired.
2-5 While in Automatic mode, when the web is stopped and the External Lock is activated, the outer LEDs in the bargraph and the Drive 1 LED will flash. SERVO-CENTER Servo-Center Press key 2 or select Servo-center via external control. The drive moves to the center position if the Servo-Center option is installed on the guide. Check: LED 2 lit. The various sensor modes can be selected. LEFT / RIGHT JOG Left Right Press the - or + key to set Left or Right to manually alter the position of the drive. Note: only enabled in Manual and Servo-Center modes.
2-6 Sensor selection - Sensor indicator In Manual or Servo-Center mode the sensor mode is selected for the type of guiding desired. Press the Sensor key repeatedly until the relevant sensor LED is lit: Special line edge guiding with line loss monitor or Standard line edge guiding or Standard edge guiding Sensor calibration When the unit is started up or when the material is changed (change of contrast between the line and background) the SE-26 line sensor must be calibrated. The line sensor is balanced to the contrast of the line and the background. When using the SE-24 Ultrasonic Edge Sensor, calibration of the edge sensor is not necessary unless the web to be guided is a porous material. If the edge sensor is to be calibrated, refer to the CDP-01 Reference Manual: Sensor Calibration With Edge Sensors. In step c., select Edge Right sensor mode - LED (10). Position the edge sensor and calibrate the line sensor using the following procedures.
2-7 Positioning the edge sensor Position the web at the desired location for guiding. Manual Press key 3 or select Manual via external control. Press the Sensor key repeatedly until LED (10) is lit. Adjust the location of the sensor until the center LED of the bargraph is lit. Lock the position of the sensor. Calibrating the line sensor The following calibration procedure replaces Chapter 7-5, Sensor Calibration With Line Sensor SE-26 in the CDP-01 Reference Manual. Special Line Edge Manual Press key 3 or select Manual via external control. The drive is switched to Manual. Check: LED (3) is lit. Press Setup key, if using the F1/F2 keys. If using the RCAL-26, skip this step.
2-8 Press the Sensor key repeatedly until LEDs (11) and (12) are lit. SE-26 Adjust the sensor gap to obtain a clear light pattern on the web (optimum focal length = ). Adjust the location of the sensor until the light spot is fully on the line. Press the F1 key or the (1) key on the RCAL-26. If using the RCAL-26, one of the LEDs in the bargraph will begin flashing. Adjust the location of the sensor until the light spot is fully on the background. Press the F2 key or the (2) key on the RCAL-26. If using the RCAL-26, the LED in the bargraph will stop flashing if there is sufficient contrast. The new settings are automatically stored. If using the F1/F2 keys, the bargraph indicates the contrast difference. If the difference is insufficient, an error message is displayed (the two outer LEDs flashing). Save setting (if using the F1/F2 keys) or Quit without saving (if using the F1/F2 keys).
2-9 SE-26 Adjust the location of the sensor until the light spot is centered on the left edge of the line. Adjust the location of the sensor until the center LED of the bargraph is lit. Note: It is very important to the operation of the line loss monitor function that the guidepoint of the line sensor be in-line with the guidepoint of the edge sensor.
2-10 Adjusting the oscillator NOTE: This procedure should be performed only if necessary. Adjustment of the oscillator will affect the operation of the line loss monitor. Verify that the web is stopped. Manual Press key 3 or select Manual via external control. Disconnect the parallel cable from the X7 connector. Press the Sensor key repeatedly until LED (10) is lit. Press key 1 to select Automatic mode.
