4. Tips and Tricks Do s If you are planning to perform a demo, start and test the printer with time enough before the event/tradeshow, in case anything goes wrong. Have time enough to fix the issue. Do not wait until the day before the event, where no time is left to solve the problem. 1. It s recommended to have the 300ml ink cartridges loaded in the printer (over the 20% of ink left). If a job stops because there s no ink left, you might see a printing mistake on your final output. 2. Use high resolution images to print during the shows. The image quality in these printers is great! 3. Recommend printing on the media assigned to each image (see below the Amazing Output part) 4. If printing several full bleed (borderless) images, ensure platen is clean of media Don ts 1. Job-queue preview, set date-and-time and change sleep time from EWS (will be mid December 2018 with new FW release) 2. Move and cut in one operation (will be mid December 2018 with new FW release) 3. Don t expect to have job granularity in the front panel while printing a job (will be mid December 2018 with new FW release) 4. Export paper presets (will be mid December 2018 with new FW release) 5. Don t leave a cut sheet or a job hanging on the printer after a show. The printer will cut when going to sleep. (will be mid December 2018 with new FW release) 6. Don t swap printheads once you have installed them on specific colors 7. Media advance speed will be mid December 2018 with new FW release 8. Don t print large black area fills on Heavy Weight Coated media. KOD issue will be mid December 2018 with new FW release 9. Don t use the last inches of the rolls, some might have a lot of curling 10. Don t cut media rolls by hand. Ensure that edge is clean (not ragged) 11. Handle DFA prints with care to avoid scuffing 12. Don t load cheap plain paper in A4/A3 portrait Version 2 August 2018

5. Moving the unit once it has been started Follow the next recommendations when moving the unit once it has been started up 1. Never put the unit upside down once it has been started up: There s risk of getting ink out of the reservoirs and damaging it. 2. Remove the Print Heads by issuing the Alignment Print head option. After getting the Print heads cancelling the operation in the Front Panel. The carriage should move to the right of the printer for being capped. 3. Use the Orange caps and plugs to save the Print Heads, and then store them. 4. NEVER leave the printers with the set up pens on and ink on tubes when sending units. The pens can leak on the service station!! 5. Uninstall the roll spindle prior to move the unit and transport it separately from the unit. 6. Protect the unit as much as possible to avoid scratching the covers or windows. Use the original bag for this purpose. 7. Use tape to lock the covers and windows to its position and avoiding them opening Version 2 August 2018

Scene How to demo Steps Image, Media and print mode to print Previous to For this demo you need to access to the Asset Hub and download the images on the start the demo specific links. Please follow the links on each image to download. Ensure you download the image and don t transform it to another file type (if it s a TIFF, print a TIFF; If it s a PDF, print a PDF. Transforming documents can lead to color changes, and IQ defects. Do NOT print images with tagline with the option: Borderless. As the design has a border, it will just clip content giving you an undesired result. Step 1: Intro This demo is aimed to demonstrate the AMAZING OUTPUT that the new HP DJ Z6 and Z9+ PS Printer Series can deliver. In this demo the benefits that the new HP DJ Z6 and Z9+ Series will show are: - High IQ on all medias - Smooth transitions - Rich, dark colors - Highlight details - Gloss uniformity (even without the GE upgrade kit) - Best-in-class B&W images with GE upgrade kit installed in Z9+. - Less inks needed to get higher IQ - Vertical Trimmer years permanence - Water resistant Step 2: Smooth, natural transitions This part demonstrates that the DJ Z6 and Z9+ has smooth transitions and you will be able to see color changes and gradations that are smoother and more natural. A particularly challenging aspect of print content are transitions, since they require the ability to change color gradually and in a smooth, continuous and natural way. Another aspect of transitions is the appearance of unexpected colors. E.g.: in a blue to yellow transition there appear some purplish colors. Both the naturalness and the consistency are due to HP Pixel Control combining pixel types, that have their known colors, versus other imaging pipelines working with ink amounts, where at some point the overprinting of inks starts and introduces unexpected combinations. This image is available in Asset Hub. Print it on HP Designjet Z9+ using HP Professional Satin Photo Paper in best print mode Download image here Version 2 August 2018

Step 3: Rich, dark colors Thanks to its HP Vivid Photo Inks and the ability of HP Pixel Control to carefully choose when to combine them at a halftone pixel and when to keep them apart, the Z6/Z9+ is able to print dark, saturated colors. In the example image there are several regions of shadow content. The Z6/Z9+ can print rich, dark colors that better match the original content and that look much more natural. This image is available in Asset Hub. Print it on HP Designjet Z9+ using HP Premium Glossy Photo Paper in Best print mode Download image here (red dress): To showcase Rich, dark colors with an HP DesignJet Z6, use the following image printed on HP Premium Glossy Photo Paper in Best print mode Download image here Step 4: Image detail Detail in shadows and highlights is a particularly difficult aspect of print content to reproduce well, since original content often specifies colors that are outside the color gamut of a print and since making small, well-controlled changes for such colors requires a great degree of control. Here the Z6/Z9+ benefits from the tight integration of several of its key output technologies. The HDNA print heads provide the choice of larger and smaller drops, and the HP Pixel Control pipeline makes careful, precise pixel-by-pixel choices. This image is available in Asset Hub. Print it on HP Designjet Z9+ using HP Professional Satin Photo Paper in best print mode Download image here Step 5: Don t lose information printing GIS files The main objective of the GIS files, is to have all the information in the printout. They need reliable output, to ensure all the transparencies they ve designed come up exactly like on screen WYSIWYG What You See Is What You Get. Print it on HP DesignJet Z6 Printer, in HP Plain or Coated Media, in normal (or) best print mode through USB or HP PDF Driver. Note: You may also use HP Click, but you will not see differences with other platforms, as HP Click has embedded PDF Engine Version 2 August 2018

Visit HP Asset Hub for the Adobe PDF Print Engine How to Demo Script file for more information. Download image here (Example 1: Alaska): Download image here (Example 2): 2. Images for Vertical Trimmer Step 6.1: Showcase Vertical Trimmer for a long roll-up banner Save time on post-processing the jobs thanks to the new embedded Vertical Trimmer in the HP DesignJet Z6dr and Z9+dr Printers with V-Trimmer. You will have the ability to: Save time/labor/space, and gain (at least) 20% of productivity Print borderless in all types of media supported (see Appendix C for more information on the V-Trimmer) Trim long banners or panoramic images Trim without human errors, thanks to an automatic trimmer. Print it on HP DesignJet Z6dr or Z9+dr Printers with V-Trimmer with HP Polypropylene media or HP Scrim Banner in Best print mode. 11 Step 6.2 and 6.3: Showcase vertical trimmer with a panoramic image (1 st column) or full borderless (2 nd column) HP DesignJet Z6dr and Z9+dr Printers with V-Trimmer with HP Premium glossy media or HP ID Satin Photo media in Best print mode, with the V-Trimmer activated Download image here HP DesignJet Z6dr and Z9+dr Printers with V-Trimmer with HP Premium glossy media or HP ID Satin Photo media in Best print mode, with the V-Trimmer activated and borderless. Download image here Note: 25 inch (63cms long) panoramic image Note: This image is without Z-Series tagline. Please do not distribute. It s an example to print borderless. Step 7: Amaze customers with light Stunning colors that come to live with a lightbox. With the Chromatic Red in the HP DesignJet Z6 and Chromatic Red, Blue and Green in the Z9+, you can amaze your customers printing on a backlit material. Note: If you have a Z6dr or Z9+dr with embedded V-Trimmer, use it to print this image. You will not harm the output when trimming the job. Print on HP Backlit Media in best print mode and use a Back-light box to show the images. If you don t have a lightbox, DON T print these images. For Z6, download image here For Z9+, download image here Version 2 August 2018

Step 8: Best inclass B&W images with Gloss Enhancer Upgrade Kit One of the benefits of the HP GLOSS ENHANCER Upgrade Kit is that minimizes bronzing on most photo papers (except matte-finish paper). Bronzing is the metallic look that s common in the gloss of pigment inks which in gray tones takes on a bronze color. It also produces images with uniform gloss, from highlights to shadows. To showcase the B&W images, print with HP DesignJet Z9+ Printer, in HP Premium Gloss Photo Paper in Best print mode. Note: To have better results, have the HP Gloss Enhancer Upgrade Kit installed and activated (Only Z9+). Download B&W image here Step 8: No Worries: Permanence and water resistance 200+ years lightfade on papers we have tested and are certified by Wilhelm. 13 Amazing Output benefits In this section we will present each of the aspects of the Z6 and Z9 + s amazing output on an example image: Smooth, natural transitions A particularly challenging aspect of print content are transitions, since they require the ability to change color gradually and in a smooth, continuous and natural way. An image where Z6/ Z9 + show a transitions benefit, you will be able to see color changes and gradations that are smoother and more natural. E.g., in this example image, there is a region at the bottom right where in the shadow in the Z6/Z9 + is reproduced very naturally and continuously with the surrounding floor. Instead, e.g., in a print of the same image on an Epson P9000 it looks as if the shadow had been cut out and pasted onto the floor - i.e., the transition between shadow and floor is unnatural. Another aspect of transitions that may be seen in competitive and our past products is the appearance of unexpected colors. E.g., in a blue to yellow transition there appear some purplish colors. Both the naturalness in the case of the example image and the consistency in the above example are due HP Pixel Control combining pixel types, that have their known colors, versus other imaging pipelines working with ink amounts, where at some point the overprinting of inks starts and introduces unexpected combinations Version 2 August 2018

Rich, dark colors Thanks to its HP Vivid Photo Inks and the ability of HP Pixel Control to carefully choose when to combine them at a halftone pixel and when to keep them apart, the Z6/Z9 + can print dark, saturated colors that neither our past product nor those of the competition can match. This is because the analog imitated processing that determines ink amounts is not able to exercise specific control over how these are to be combined. If you then think of a black and red drop unintentionally overlapping, the result is a near-black. While if those same drops are kept apart, the result is a dark red and HP Pixel Control is capable of deliberately making these distinct choices that are not open to conventional imaging pipelines. As a result, it gets the most out of the HP Vivid Photo inks. In the example image there are several regions of shadow content, where both the Epson P9000 and the Canon 4000 reproduce the red dress as looking unnaturally dull where it is in the shadows. The Z6/Z9 + is instead able to print rich, dark colors that better match the original content and that look much more natural. Image detail Detail in shadows and highlights is a particularly difficult aspect of print content to reproduce well, since original content often specifies colors that are outside the color gamut of a print and since making small, well-controlled changes for such colors requires a great degree of control. Here the Z6/Z9 + benefits from the tight integration of several of its key output technologies. The HDNA print heads provide the choice of larger and smaller drops, the HP Pixel Control pipeline makes careful, precise pixel-by-pixel choices and the HP Easy Profiling Solution builds ICC color profiles that result in original color content being mapped to deliver a well-balanced overall look and feel. As a result, the Z6/Z9 + prints show more detail in several parts of the example image. E.g., on the left the dark corner of the room, that the Epson P9000 obscures, can be seen clearly, and near the center of the print the folds in the shadows of the fabric are well preserved, while the HP Z3200 print loses them Version 2 August 2018

Gloss uniformity A further, important aspect of the Z6/Z9 + prints is their gloss uniformity, thanks to the HP Vivid Photo Inks, which result in prints where gloss levels are similar for all colors. The consequences are that, regardless of the angle from which a print is viewed, its gloss appears to be very similar throughout. Instead, prints made with the Epson P9000 and the Canon 4000 have strong color-dependent gloss variation and looking at them from some angles will make them appear very unnatural. E.g., looking at the example image printed on the Canon 4000 makes it seem as if the red dress were printed in a different way and pasted onto a print with a very different gloss level - blacks and reds on that printer come out looking very different in terms of their gloss. An exception here are black and white images, where the Z6/Z9 + prints do have a gap in gloss uniformity that will be closed using the Optional Gloss Enhancer upgrade kit. Balance and naturalness Finally, a very important feature of the Z6/Z9 + prints is their naturalness and balance. While they may be better than Canon prints in some aspects and then Epson prints in others, they are consistently at least as good as the competition. This means that while some content may come out with issues on the Canon (e.g., gloss non-uniformity, dull dark colors) and other content may have weaknesses when printed on the Epson (e.g., loss of detail, dull dark colors, transition discontinuities), the Z6/Z9 + delivers consistent, natural and balanced output for all print jobs Version 2 August 2018

How to Demo 1. HP Professional PANTONE Emulation Before getting started, access the EWS and print a PANTONE swatch book to show how it comes out and explain how to emulate a color you are looking for End of this document How to access the EWS: Open a web browser and type the IP address of the printer. [Example of how the IP address looks like: ] You will find the PANTONE swatchbook under the Color tab in the EWS. Sample to print: TBD If printing from USB: Step 1: Turn OFF the Pantone Emulation through the front panel and print the sample. Step 2: Turn ON the Pantone Emulation through the front panel and print the sample. Step-by-step to turn on/off the Pantone Emulation through the front panel: Settings Default Printing Configuration Color Options HP PANTONE Emulation If printing from PostScript or PDF Driver you can enable or disable the Pantone Emulation through these drivers. Note: The Pantone swatchbook will be available with FW version: 26.7 The HP Professional PANTONE Emulation [HP PPE] is a technology that enables graphical elements in designs to have Pantone color names assigned to them. The HP Printers then will be able to substitute these Pantone colors with RGBs or CMYKs. HP PPE will provide a PANTONE color emulation tuned to the specific capabilities of each media and printer combination. With the PANTONE swatch book, we will see how far [ E color difference] we are from the desired color on that specific media. Furthermore, these emulations are computed using either the pre-loaded media profiles or user-provided ICC output profiles of the printing system, which results in the most accurate emulations possible. HP PPE also provides a swatch-book printing feature [available in the EWS] to help users manage Pantone emulation. This feature allows the printing of a swatch-book showing emulations of Pantone colors as well as the ΔE color differences between the emulations and the original Pantone spot colors. As a result, HP PPE not only provides the closest match a printing system can produce, but it also gives clear information on how close the emulation is to the original spot color Version 2 August 2018

HP PPE is transparent to the user. You only need to have a good profile and have the HP Professional PANTONE Emulation feature on [which it s on by default], and the printer will take care of the rest. HP PPE is available only when printing a PostScript or PDF job. This is an example of the swatchbook you will find in the EWS: When you print the swatchbook, it will always show different values depending on the printer and the media that is printed. This is because not every printer has the same gamut on specific medias. This is an automatic process. For each PANTONE color, the simulation is provided to give the closest match to each individual PANTONE spot color. The swatchbook shows the RGB values used to print the simulation of each PANTONE color. It also indicates which original PANTONE colors are inside this print s gamut and for those the closest match simulations match them as accurately as the media profile allows. For those that are outside of the print s gamut, the swatchbook gives the color difference ( E) between the original PANTONE spot color and its closest match simulation Version 2 August 2018

E s between 0 and 1 typically cannot be seen and the greater these values are the further the corresponding original PANTONE spot colors are outside this print s gamut. While a value of 1 means a just noticeable difference, the threshold below which differences are acceptable varies widely from application to application. All these values apply to standard graphic arts viewing conditions (see ISO 3664:2000 for details). Here is an example of a color: The color square means the closest match simulation. Pantone Yellow CS is the PANTONE name of the color. simulation. E is the color difference. There are possible colors between the Yellow CS and the closest match The RGB color for this example is: Version 2 August 2018

There are three possible printing paths: USB, HP Click or Driver. Images to print: - Glossy/Best: download here - Coated/Normal: download here [HP Click software version with borderless option: version 2.5 or onwards.] For the first time in the large format printing industry, HP is introducing an embedded vertical trimmer in the HP DesignJet Z6dr and Z9+dr printers. This brand new vertical trimmer will change the way our customers print. With one single device, you will be able to print and trim simultaneously! The true print and trim solution will save critical time and time means money (some copy shop owners estimated over an hour and a half per day in labor savings¹. Benefits of the vertical trimmer: (quotes from customers during the interviews¹): Quicker turnaround means happier customers (PSPs and PCS) and shops can accept more jobs. Eliminating rework from human error saves time and costs. (Roughly 1% - 2% of prints are redone due to human error cutting). An integrated vertical trimmer means better quality cutting, without scratching sensitive media (like backlit). The trimmer provides ability to handle additional jobs, such as longer banners or panoramic photos, that were outsourced because they were too long to cut in-house Version 2 August 2018

3. Adobe PDF Print Engine Before getting started, have the PDF Driver downloaded on a Windows 8x or later. Download the drivers on the following link: - Drivers for HP DesignJet Z6 - Drivers for HP DesignJet Z9+ Once downloaded, send the job ALASKA_v4.pdf to print through the PDF driver. Print the same document through competitor s driver (or HP DesignJet PCL3 raster driver) Download image ALASKA_v4.pdf Point the differences mentioned at the end of this document. Adobe PDF Print Engine is a reference for the print industry. It s an improved version of the Adobe PostScript, with more features and improving the limitations that PostScript had. A PDF file provides a convenient way to move content from a native application to a standard workflow, including all the necessary components to provide digital printing. PostScript provides no direct support for some elements that PDF supports, including live transparency. Therefore, in those workflows where a PDF needs to be converted to PostScript before sending it to the printer (i.e. Driver PostScript), transparency must be flattened, and other elements must also be converted for printing. The Adobe PDF Print Engine overcomes those constraints with the ability to process PDF files natively, without unnecessary conversions. How it works with PostScript: How it works with PDF driver in a printer with Adobe PDF Print Engine embedded¹: Driver PS Driver PDF conversion pass-through These end-to-end native PDF workflow solutions dramatically improve the printing process by increasing flexibility, predictability, and reliability which, in turn, improves productivity for the print user. Complex content prints correctly the first time. You don t need to reprint them because you haven t noticed about the simulate overprinting button, as it s by default in the Version 2 August 2018

Adobe Reader/Acrobat application. Fewer complications and more accurate previews result in a faster and more efficient workflow. Working with live transparencies Live transparency can be edited and can interact with underlying objects, therefore it s better to keep transparency so calculations and color management can be done at the very end in the print workflow, without unnecessary conversions. Flattened transparency, on the other hand, cannot be modified using the source application nor any application into which the file is imported. The Adobe PDF Print Engine embedded in the printer, uses the same core technologies employed by Acrobat DC, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Using the same algorithms for content creation, job management and final rendering lowers the chance of discrepancies and increases predictability: what you see on-screen is exactly what you will get when ink hits paper. Notes: - The competitors can obtain comparable results, but always using an application (such as Adobe Reader/Acrobat)) that is rendering the PDF file with Adobe technologies before submitting the raster to the printer. For those files with more complex features such overprinting, a further step is needed, and Simulate Overprinting option needs to be enabled. For doing that, in the printing dialog box go to Advance -> Output tab and check "Simulate Overprinting" box. - Those competitors who do not have a renderer that supports all PDF features like Adobe PDF Print Engine will produce wrong outputs whenever submitting files through USB printing. The main difference between submitting files directly from USB vs. using a Driver is that when a job is submitted from a Driver, the application (i.e. Acrobat Reader) oversees doing the rendering: processing all complex features and flattening all the printer is not able to process. - To enable the overprinting capabilities through the drivers, follow these steps: Print Advanced Simulate overprinting (On/Off By default is Off) Ok Print. How to print and what will be the result: 1. USB Printing from USB with HP DesignJet Z6 (or Z9+) will produce accurate results, color consistent with the original PDF and preserving all transparencies and overprints. Whenever a PDF file is printed through USB with the competitors printers (Canon or Epson) transparencies are not being processed correctly, resulting in opaque Version 2 August 2018

areas in the final print output, obtaining results explain at the end of this document. 2. Adobe Acrobat Main output differences in overprinting and transparencies are due to a specific setting named Simulate Overprinting. Find below the different combinations: a. Simulate overprinting tab disabled (off by default). i. With HP DesignJet Z6 (or Z9+) the result will be the same as USB: you will see all the live transparencies on your document. ii. With competitors printers, result will be as mentioned below: loss of information and no transparencies/overprints. b. Simulate overprinting tab enabled (on process specified in Notes) i. With HP DesignJet Z6 (or Z9+) the result will be the same as the previous cases. The live transparencies will always come as expected. ii. With competitors printers, the result will be very similar as HP s, but the process of the document will take a lot longer. This is because submitted PDF is being converted (flattened) to another format through the application. In case of an application that uses Adobe technologies, these conversions will produce similar output as HP printers. Also, bear in mind that whenever enabling "Simulate Overprinting" option for files using overprint features, additional time for processing the file is needed, resulting in application being freeze until the PDF has been completely flattened Version 2 August 2018

Settings to print the ALASKA_v4.pdf document: - Operating System: Windows 8x or onwards - Media: Océ draft paper (Or HP Plain paper), Normal mode. - Rendering resolution of file: 600dpi HP Z6 PDF correctly interpreted transparency Epson SC P-9000 PDF no clear Version 2 August 2018

What differences you can expect when printing vs competitors: Blue color transparency over trees Overlapped colors, giving green Transparencies, not losing detail Spot colors, well defined with Pantone Emulation Loss of spot colors and layers Version 2 August 2018
