Typical products used in maintenance exterior joinery are described below: Unique water based preservative for applicati. 9 Applicati Notes Brush applicati waterborne paint requires a different technique from traditial solvent based s, mainly due to its shorter drying time reduced. However, following a few simple hints will produce excellent results. The quality brush is very important; a lg haired syntic brush will give best results you should avoid short haired or worn brushes which may leave lines in dry film. Prior to applicati, thoroughly wet brush water, ensuring that base bristles ( heel brush) is fully wetted. The viscoy paint will affect ease applicati. Whilst product can be applied directly from tin, additial thinning between 5 15% water will improve levelling properties product, particularly in warmer wear. For best results a three stage applicati technique should be developed: Load generously to disperse briskly Even out light diagal cross strokes DO NOT OVERBRUSH will level naturally Finish applicati LIGHT brush strokes in directi grain With practice an even coat can be applied quickly. An even film is important for durability also for appearance. Apply finish each secti joinery in a systematic method. This means painting a window or door e compent at a time e.g. Top Rail followed by a Stile followed by Bottom Rail. When applying darker opaque colours over previously applied lighter shades use e coat Anti Stain aqua 2901 Grey to improve opacity. Do not attempt to paint when temperature is below 5 degrees Celsius, or if relative humidity exceeds 80% as curing performance may be impaired. If re is any doubt about substrate or underlying paint film, apply appropriate Teknos products to a small, incspicuous area, allow to dry for 24 hours n inspect for appearance adhesi to substrate. Wash out brushes a mild detergent soluti (e.g. washing up liquid) rinse clean water. Repair products can be obtained from Teknos, can be stored in frost free cditis for up to six mths in sealed packaging. Typically, Teknos primer topcoats will cover 8-10 square meters per litre.

10 Care i exterior joinery First subsequent redecorati All areas to be recoated should be washed down a mild detergent soluti rinsed clean water to remove dust, insects or ctaminants, which can form a base for algae fungi growth. Where system is intact requires a cosmetic coat, following procedure should be followed: Using a good quality, lg haired, syntic brush, designed for use acrylic paints, apply e or two coats Aquatop 2600 topcoat in appropriate shade. Allow to dry for four hours between coats. With proper care attenti, Teknos s will give extended life between redecorati cycles. For best performance, following should be observed: At least ce per year all s should be washed mild detergent water to remove any polluti. All hinge mechanisms hles should be checked at least biannually for ease operati lubricated light oil suitable for purpose, as required. Wear seals should be cleaned at least ce per year to remove any dust or grime in accordance manufacturer s instructis. Ventilators should be cleaned at least ce per year to remove any dirt or grime in accordance manufacturers instructis. Rainwater goods should be cleaned, blockages removed any leaks repaired. Minor areas damage, shakes or open joints should be locally repaired in line relevant recommendatis as follows. Where minor flaking affects small areas topcoat substrate is not exposed, following procedure should be followed: Abrade damaged area a fine grade abrasive paper to remove all unsound fear out to leave a smooth. Clean down wash abraded area to remove dust, allow to thoroughly dry. Using a good quality, lg haired, syntic brush, designed for use acrylic paints; apply a coat Aquatop 2600 topcoat in appropriate shade. Allow to dry for four hours n apply a secd coat. If damaged area is widespread, it is recommended that whole frame is lightly abraded repaired as described above secd coat applied to complete frame.

11 Where moisture has penetrated joints, end grain, mitres or natural movement has opened shakes Abrade damaged area a fine grade abrasive paper to remove all unsound fear out to leave a smooth. Clean down wash abraded area to remove dust, allow to thoroughly dry. Treat bare, where appropriate, a preservative, such as Teknol Aqua, allow to dry. Prime Anti Stain Aqua 2901 for opaque systems. Seal any open joints Teknoseal 4001 joint sealer applied by mastic gun. Wipe a damp cloth or spatula to give a smooth joint allow to dry to a clear finish. Seal any exposed end grain Teknoseal 4000 end grain sealer allow to thoroughly dry. Using a good quality, lg haired, syntic brush, designed for use acrylic paints; apply a coat Aquatop 2600 topcoat in appropriate shade. Allow to dry for four hours n apply a secd coat. Where damage has affected full depth system, i.e. a deep cut or gouge, full system requires repair Abrade damaged area a fine grade abrasive paper to remove all unsound fear out to leave a smooth.. Clean down wash abraded area to remove dust, allow to thoroughly dry. Treat bare, where appropriate, a preservative, such as Teknol Aqua, allow to dry. Prime Anti Stain Aqua 2901 for opaque systems. 12 Resin Exudati Teknos commitment to quality... Resins are a naturally occurring compent can be found in pockets in or associated knots. If finish is not damaged, by over-vigorous scrubbing during crystal removal, re- is ten unnecessary. Although it may be unsightly, it is better not to remove fresh sticky resin. In practice, this can be very difficult, presence sticky resin indicates that exudati is still ctinuing. The remedial work for resin exudati is ten best left until first maintenance period, by which time resin has normally fully crystallised.
