The Martu people are the traditional custodians of over 13 million hectares of land across the Western Desert which is strewn with jila (waterholes), jurnu (soaks), tuwa (sand hills), warla (lakes), and other significant landforms which continue to tell the history and origins of this Country and how it was created during the Jukurrpa (Dreaming). Martumili Marlakurrinpa is a celebration of the great success of this art centre, from thier first exhibition at the Port Hedland Courthouse Gallery in 2006 to where they stand today, as one of the most significant art centres in Western Australia. The extent of their influence and success can be attributed to their characteristically bold, bright colours, and to the fact that Martu artists paintings are a meaningful enactment of the artists deep connection to place. For more information about the exhibition and artworks, or for any sales enquiries, please contact the Port Hedland Courthouse Gallery on (08) or mail@courthousegallery.com.au.
