1 Research on Emotional Expression and Application of Urban Theme in Modern Oil Painting Creation Gongjun Chen School of Art and Literature, Shihezi University, Shihezi, Xinjiang, , China Abstract Influenced by the image technology, fast-paced life state and urban landscape visual characteristics, the contemporary urban oil painting shows the tendency of disordered features. In this paper, the author analyse the emotional expression and application of urban theme in modern oil painting creation. Oil painters dig out creative materials in the changing urban environment, and use oil painting to represent the common scenes in their lives. People have different feelings about the living environment of the modern city, so the painters show different styles of oil paintings in their creations. On the one hand, the living standards of people in modern cities have been improved, but people's spiritual problems are becoming more and more prominent: the strengthening of life pressure, the weakness of interpersonal relationship, the lack of sports freedom and so on. On the other hand, living in every level of society, because of the different levels, the status of life is also different. Some people live very delicate, very rich; some people live very full and very ideal; some people are struggling in the bottom for a living is coming from the poor run; while others only in order to meet the bottom of life and work. This shows that living in the city, people's living conditions are different, the feelings of the community is not the same. These are some of the problems that exist in our society, which are more obvious in the urban environment with increasing complexity. Some painters and their representative works explain the living conditions of people in the urban living environment. The perception of expression means the feeling and experience of emotional expression of urban theme, and the expression of emotion in urban oil painting needs unique painting language to express. Emotional expression has many elements, the color and composition of the picture is particularly important. The color can directly reflect the works of emotional tone, or warm, or cold, or quietly, or uneasy, each color can express different feelings, for example, white represents the purity and holiness; black people feel fear, serious red; give people a warm, festive feeling; green on behalf of youth, vitality, peace; blue to quiet overflow and hope.
