(5 cm) diameter 2 D rings, about 1 1/2 in. (4 cm) wide Sewing needle and thread to match yarn B 1/2 yd. (0.5 m) fabric for lining (optional) Dressmaker s marking chalk if making optional lining GAUGE: NOTES: Exact gauge is not essential to this project. 1. All weaving is done using 2 strands of yarn. 2. The body of the Bag is made from rectangles that are woven and then sewed together. 3. Two long, narrow rectangles are woven, then sewed together for Strap. 4. For all woven pieces, follow loom manual instructions on WEAVING for how to set up the warp, weave the weft, and remove weaving from the loom. 5. Bag edging is made of loom knit cords. Nine separate pieces of cord are loom knit using 1 strand of yarn, then sewed to Bag with sewing needle and thread. 6. A fabric lining is optional.

3 RECTANGLE 1 (make 3, one each for Front, Back and Flap) Loom Configuration Use the following pieces: (2) 36-hole pieces, (4) 12-hole pieces, (4) corner pieces. Connect pieces to form Rectangle 1 as follows: 36 hole piece > corner piece > 12 hole piece > 12 hole piece >corner piece > 36 hole piece >corner piece >12 hole piece >12 hole piece > corner piece. Insert 41 small blue pegs along each long side of the loom, and 29 pegs along each short side for a total of 140 working pegs. Follow loom manual instructions on WEAVING for how to set up the warp, weave the weft, and remove weaving from the loom. Set up the warp using 2 strands of A held together around 41 pegs on top and 41 pegs on bottom of loom. RECTANGLE 2 (make 1 for Base of Bag) Use the following pieces: (2) 36-hole pieces, (2) 12-hole pieces, (4) corner pieces. Connect pieces to form Rectangle 2 as follows: 36 hole piece > corner piece > 12 hole piece >corner piece > 36 hole piece >corner piece >12 hole piece > corner piece. Insert 41 small blue pegs along each long side of the loom, and 17 pegs along each short side for a total of 116

4 working pegs. Set up the warp using 2 strands of A held together around 41 pegs on top and 41 pegs on bottom of loom. RECTANGLE 3 (make 2, 1 for each Side of Bag) Loom Configuration Use the following pieces: (4) 6-hole pieces, (4) 12-hole pieces, (4) corner pieces. Connect pieces to form Rectangle 3 as follows: 12 hole piece > 12 hole piece >corner piece >6 hole piece > 6 hole piece >corner piece > 12 hole piece > 12 hole piece >corner piece > 6 hole piece > 6 hole piece > corner piece. Insert 29 small blue pegs along each long side of the loom, and 17 pegs along each short side for a total of 92 working pegs. Set up the warp using 2 strands of A held together around 29 pegs on top and 29 pegs on bottom of loom. RECTANGLE 4 (make 2 for Strap) Loom Configuration Use the following pieces: (4) 6-hole pieces, (2) 36-hole pieces, (4) 12-hole pieces (4) corner pieces. Connect pieces to form Rectangle 4 as follows: 36 hole piece > 12 hole piece > 12 hole piece > 6 hole piece > 6 hole piece >corner piece >corner piece > 6 hole piece > 6 hole piece >12 hole piece > 12 hole piece > 36 hole piece > corner piece > corner piece Insert 77 small blue pegs along each long side of the loom, and 5 pegs along each short side for a total of 164 working pegs. Set up the warp using 2 strands of A held together around 77 pegs on top and 77 pegs on bottom of loom. RECTANGLE 5 (make 2 for Pockets) Loom Configuration

5 Use the following pieces: (2) 36-hole pieces, (2) 12-hole pieces, (2) 6-hole pieces, (4) corner pieces. Connect pieces to form Rectangle 5 as follows: 36 hole piece > corner piece > 12 hole piece > 6 hole piece >corner piece > 36 hole piece >corner piece >6 hole piece >12 hole piece > corner piece Insert 41 small blue pegs along each long side of the loom, and 23 pegs along each short side for a total of 128 working pegs. Set up the warp using 2 strands of A held together around 41 pegs on top and 41 pegs on bottom of loom. RECTANGLE 6 (make 1 for Tab) Loom Configuration Use the following pieces: (2) u-shaped pieces and (2) 6-hole pieces. Connect pieces to form Rectangle 6 as follows: u-shaped piece >6 hole piece >u-shaped piece> 6 hole piece. Insert 11 small blue pegs along each long side of the loom and 3 pegs along each short side of loom for a total of 28 working pegs. Set up the warp using 2 strands of A held together around 11 pegs on top and 11 pegs on bottom of loom. Loom Knit Cords Insert 3 pegs at the center of the 6 hole piece. Cast on 3 stitches, following instructions on pages 5-6 of instruction manual. *Take the yarn behind the 3 pegs, then in front of the pegs, clockwise. Lift each of the lower loops over the passed yarn.* Repeat from * to * for desired length of cord. Make the following cords: Pocket Cords: 2 cords each 14 in. (35 cm) long for top edge of each Pocket Front Cord: 1 cord 33 in. (84 cm) long for sides and lower edge of Front Top Edge Cord: 1 cord 25 in. (63.5 cm) long for top edge of Front and Sides Back/Flap Cord: 1 cord 76 in. (193 cm) long for side edges, lower edge of Back, Flap edges and button loop Side Cords: 2 cords each 5 in. (12.5 cm) long for lower edges of Sides Strap Cord: 1 cord 110 in. (279.5 cm) long for the Strap edges Tab Cord: 1 cord 10 in. (25.5 cm) long for the Tab edges

6 FINISHING Optional Lining Fold lining fabric crosswise in half, with right sides together and wrong sides facing out. Lay folded fabric onto a flat surface. Lay woven Front, Base and one Side onto folded lining fabric. With dressmaker s chalk, trace the outline of each woven piece 1/2 in. (1.5 cm) from the outside edge to allow for seams. Remove woven pieces from fabric, cut pieces from fabric along marked lines. With wrong sides together, baste 2 lining Base pieces together, sewing close to outside edges. Two pieces are used to make a sturdy Base. With right sides together, and using 1/2 in. (1.5 cm) seam allowance, sew long sides of lining Side pieces to each side of one lining Front. Sew remaining lining Front to lining Side pieces to make a tube. With right sides together, and using 1/2 in. (1.5 cm) seam allowance, sew basted lining Base to lining tube. Turn 1/2 in. (1.5 cm) along top edge of lining to WS and use an iron to press in place. Set lining aside. Bag Assembly Note: When sewing cords in place, sew both sides of cord to Bag. 1: With sewing needle and thread, sew a Pocket Cord to top edge of each Pocket. 2: With needle provided with loom and A, and following photo, sew one Pocket to the Front and one Pocket to the Back. Sew a line up the center of the each Pocket. 3: With needle provided with loom and A, and following photo, sew the Flap to the top edge of the Back. 4: With needle provided with loom, weave in yarn ends to wrong side of Bag. 5: With needle provided with loom and A, sew one long edge of each of the Side sections to the Back. 6: With needle provided with loom and A, sew the long edge of the bag Base to the lower edge of the Back. 7: With needle provided with loom and A, sew the short ends of the Sides to the short ends of the Base. 8: With needle provided with loom and A, sew the Front to the Sides and Base. 9. If using fabric lining, slip lining into the assembled woven Bag. With sewing needle and thread whipstitch top edge of lining to bag. 10: With sewing needle and thread, and following photo, sew Front Cord around the sides and lower edge of the Front.

7 11: With sewing needle and thread, and following photo, sew Top Edge Cord around upper edge of Front and Sides. 12: With needle provided with loom and A, and following photo, sew the button to the center of the lower Front. 13: With sewing needle and thread, and following photo, beginning at center front of Flap, sew Back/Flap Cord around one half of the Flap, down the first side of the Back, across the lower edge of the Back, then up the remaining edge of the Back, then the remaining half of the flap. At the center front of the Flap, twist the cord to make the button loop before sewing the cord end in place.

8 14: With sewing needle and thread, and following photo, sew a Side Cord to the lower edge of each of the Sides. 15: With sewing needle and thread, and following photo, sew Tab Cord to the edges of the Tab. 16: Following the photo, slide the 2 'D' rings onto the Tab. Fold the Tab in half over the upper edge of the left hand side of the Bag (the left hand side of the Bag when Bag is laid flat, with the Front facing). Sew Tab securely in place

9 through all 3 layers of the Tab and Bag. 17: With needle provided with loom and A, sew the short ends of the Straps together. 18: With sewing needle and thread, and following photo, sew the Strap Cord around the outside edge of the Strap. 19: With needle provided with loom and A, sew one end of the Strap to the right hand side of Bag (opposite side from where the D rings were attached), about 3 in. (7.5 cm) from upper edge. 20: Thread remaining end of Strap through the 'D' rings and back through the space between them. Adjust Strap to
