1 Construction Law Section SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES by order of presentation Anthony Lawrence Brownstone Construction Group Anthony is a graduate of Mississippi State University School of Architecture and a native of Jackson, MS where he attended Callaway High School. Anthony has been practicing architecture in the state of South Carolina and abroad for twenty-one (21) years. He is also licensed in Mississippi and North Carolina. He was appointed by Governor Mark Sanford in 2005 to the South Carolina Board of Architectural Examiners and served as board chairman from 2015 to He is still a sitting member of the board. He is also serves on the Board of Directors for South Carolina Telco Federal Credit Union; this is his fifth year. Anthony is the Executive Vice President for Brownstone a construction management, architecture and engineering firm that is headquartered in Columbia. They have offices in Charlotte, Savannah and Charleston. As the firm s lead principal for the design group, Anthony oversees the architecture and engineering group and is responsible for client relations, business development, contracts and operations. In his spare time, Anthony serves as the PSTO President at Ridge View High and coaches two South Carolina United U11/U12 girls recreation soccer teams. Anthony has been married to his college sweetheart, Attorney Stephanie Lawrence, for twenty (20) years. They have two kids, Mechai (16) and Clarke (10). Caleb M. Riser Richardson Plowden & Robinson, PA Caleb M. Riser joined Richardson Plowden in 2009 in the Columbia office. He focuses his practice on construction law. Mr. Riser s experience includes: For six years, Mr. Riser was employed by TVS-DESIGN, located in Atlanta, Chicago, Dubai, and Shanghai. While at TVS, Mr. Riser worked on various institutional projects, as well as commercial office building and public assembly space design, and distinguished himself as chairman of the Professional Development Committee. His experience in architecture brings invaluable insight, knowledge and experience to the practice of construction law. While attending law school, Mr. Riser was chairman of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Board.

Dworjanyn Collins & Lacy, PC Pete Dworjanyn is a shareholder and the chair of Collins & Lacy s Insurance Coverage Practice Group. His practice encompasses a broad variety of insurance coverage and litigation issues, from coverage advice to litigation of coverage and extra-contractual claims. Pete is experienced in many coverage areas, including but not limited to, General Liability, Directors and Officers, Errors and Omissions, Excess vs. Primary, Property Life, Health and Disability, Occupational Accident, Commercial Auto and Trucking. Pete also represents insurers in disability, occupational accident, and workers compensation claims, particularly with regard to coverage issues and serious injuries. He has been named a South Carolina Super Lawyer and a Best Lawyer in America, two of the oldest and most respected peer-review publications in the legal profession. Greater Columbia Business Monthly recognizes Pete as one of the Midlands Legal Elite in the area of insurance coverage. Following law school, Pete served as a law clerk for the Honorable Julius H. Baggett, Eleventh Judicial Circuit. He then worked as an Assistant Solicitor in the Eleventh Circuit Solicitor s

3 Office, prosecuting and obtaining valuable trial experience. Prior to joining Collins & Lacy in 1999, Pete worked for three years at a smaller law firm, gaining exposure to a variety of legal issues. Pete enjoys spending time with his family, and dog, and especially involves outdoor activity, including snow skiing, hiking, mountain biking, hunting, and generally any type of travel. Jennifer Eubanks Canal Insurance Co. Greenville, SC Jennifer D. Eubanks is a Senior Staff Attorney at Canal Insurance Company, in Greenville, South Carolina. She assists the Claims organization with coverage issues and coverage training. She also manages appeals and coverage litigation involving Canal Insurance Company, including extra-contractual litigation. Prior to joining Canal, she was in private practice for 20 years, handling exclusively coverage matters, including extra-contractual litigation. Education: University of South Carolina School of Law, J.D West Virginia University, B.A Henry W. Brown Nexsen Pruet, LLC Henry Brown practices primarily in the areas of construction litigation, commercial litigation, mediation and alternate dispute resolution. While at the University of South Carolina, Mr. Brown served as a member of the editorial board of the South Carolina Law Review. Blanton O Neal IV Hood Law Firm Charleston, SC John Blanton O Neal IV is a partner at the Hood Law Firm, LLC in Charleston, SC. He focuses his practice on civil litigation, construction litigation, insurance law, environmental law, commercial litigation and products liability litigation. Blanton has more than seventeen years of litigation experience in state and federal courts in South Carolina. Blanton is also a certified

Blanton attended the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received his B.C.E., in He then earned his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in Blanton handles CD defense claims, E&O claims, coverage matters and extra contractual/bad faith claims for various US and international insurance carriers. Bryan P. Kelley Elmore Goldsmith, PA Greenville, SC Bryan represents a wide range of general contractors, subcontractors, developers, and surety companies in North and South Carolina. He primarily practices in the areas of construction law and surety claims and disputes. Bryan s experience includes assisting clients with mechanic s liens, bond claims, payment claims, defect litigation, insurance coverage, scheduling and delay issues, and change order disputes. He has served as a lecturer on a variety of construction topics for legal and industry groups including Carolinas Associated General Contractors. He is a coauthor of the South Carolina Construction Law Deskbook, published by the Construction Law Section of the South Carolina Bar, and is a frequent contributor to Elmore Goldsmith s construction law blog (elmoregoldsmith.com/hardhatblog). Bryan is rated AV preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. After graduating from the University of South Carolina School of Law, Bryan served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable J. Derham Cole, Resident Judge of the Seventh Judicial Circuit of South Carolina, and as an assistant Solicitor for the Seventh Circuit Solicitor s Office in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He joined Elmore Goldsmith in Emily R. Gifford Richardson Plowden & Robinson, PA Course Planner Emily R. Gifford is a shareholder of Richardson Plowden in the Columbia office. She focuses her practice on construction law, including complex commercial litigation. She earned her master's in health administration while completing her juris doctor at the University of South Carolina (USC). She also earned her bachelor's degree in English, cum laude, from the USC Honors College in As a law student, Ms. Gifford was the student editor in chief of the ABA Real Property, Probate and Trust Journal and received a CALI Award in Constitutional Law II. She also was a member of the John Belton O'Neall Inn of Court and Phi Delta Phi, Calhoun Inn. In 2002, she wrote the article "The National Practitioner Data Bank: Not for Public Consumption" for Medical Trial Technique Quarterly.

5 A South Carolina Certified Circuit Court mediator, Ms. Gifford is also a special prosecutor for the Office of the Attorney General, assisting in the prosecution of criminal domestic violence cases on a pro bono basis. She is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS), and she served as the editor-in-chief for the TIPS Tortsource Editorial Board from 2013 to She is also the former Chair of the TIPS Self Insurers and Risk Managers Committee. She is a 2011 graduate of the ABA TIPS Leadership Academy and a 2013 graduate of the South Carolina Bar Leadership Academy. Ms. Gifford was involved with the Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the South Carolina Bar, and was a member of the South Carolina YLD Social Media Taskforce. She is a member of the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association Construction Law Committee, and she is the current chair of the South Carolina Bar Construction Law Committee. In 2012 and 2013, Ms. Gifford was recognized as a Rising Star by South Carolina Super Lawyers. She was recognized as a South Carolina Super Lawyer for Construction Litigation in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
