2 Welcome Message We hope you can join us at the Drucker Centennial Global Conference on The Drucker Solution : Key to Responsible High-Performing Society to be held in Seoul, June 16~17, This conference is just one of a series of events being held around the world, to mark the 100th birthday of Peter F. Drucker-the father of modern management; winner of the United States Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor; and author of 39 books on organizational behavior, economy, society and innovation. There couldn't be a more appropriate setting than Seoul to explore ideas about innovation-a concept that Drucker defined as change that creates a new dimension of performance. Indeed, Drucker praised Korea as, by far the most entrepreneurial country on earth. In Drucker-like fashion, this event is designed to foster dialogue across sectors, helping social entrepreneurs learn from those in the private sector, while helping corporate CEOs and managers learn from successful nonprofits and social enterprises. It will be hosted by the Peter Drucker Society of Korea, the Drucker Institute, the Drucker School and. The focus of the conference will be on the management of ideas, people and the environment in a socially responsible, ethical and sustainable manner in today s knowledge-based society. Local companies and institutions have experienced great adversity for the past several decades due to a recession in the domestic market, labor supply shortages, and the overwhelming influence of large enterprises on the national policy agenda. They are now trying to compete through innovation and entrepreneurship. And the first generation of Korean social enterprises are now starting up. But both private and public sectors face a shortage of experienced and effective professionals as well as foresighted leadership. Nevertheless, social enterprises are drawing increasingly more attention from the public and the government because they offer not only solutions to long-standing social problems, but also offer the chance for Korean knowledge workers to make a meaningful contribution to the health of their society during a time of deep economic recession. The first goal of the conference is to gather leading scholars, executives and professionals to discuss the essential principles and practices of knowledge-based innovation in business and social enterprise. The second goal of the conference is to explore how individuals in local knowledge-based organizations can become innovators and generate value for stakeholders. The third goal is to create a set of principles and practices for innovation in small and medium-sized Korean businesses and social enterprises to be endorsed by the Korean government, leading NPOs, and influential private sector institutions. The fourth goal is to contribute to an already-burgeoning global network of scholars, executives and professionals who are advancing Peter Drucker s insights on innovation, effective management and ethical leadership. The expected audience for this conference includes CEOs from Korean companies-from the very small to the very big- and scholars and practitioners from the private, public and social sectors.
