3 History of Papst Licensing In the 1940s Hermann Papst an extraordinarily creative engineer and inventor formed an enterprise which evolved into Papst- Motoren GmbH & Co. KG. The mid-size company - which today operates under the name, ebm-papst St. Georgen GmbH & Co. KG - manufactures electric motors and fans. Apart from the 400 patents owned by Hermann Papst himself, Papst-Motoren GmbH & Co. KG also held approximately 600 other patents and patent applications in the early 1990s. In 1993, PAPST LICENSING acquired that entire portfolio. Since then, PAPST LICENSING has monetized these and other patents in the field of electrical and precision engineering globally.
