2 A. A motion was made to accept the minutes of the Board minutes as written. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously. IV. Report of the Chairman... Mr. Dathe A. Board Business Barometer... Mr. Dathe a. First question was: Sales in the second qtr of 2103, compared to 1 st qtr of 2103? 1. Die Caster s answered 1 down (but did not give a percentage), 6 were even, 3 were up 5%, 1 up 10% and 1 up 12%. Average said up 3.5% 2. Supplier s answered 3 were even, 2 were up 5%, 1 up 10%, 1 up 15%, and 2 up 20%. Average said they would be up 8.3%. b. Second question was: Projected sales in 2103 compared to 2012? 1. Die casters answered 1 down by 4%, 4 were even, 4 were up between 2% and 5%, 2 up 10%, and 1 up 15%. Average were up 4% 2. Supplier s answered 1 was even, 1 up 5%, 1 up 7.5%, 2 up 10%, and then one each at 15%, 22%, 30%, 40%. Average was up 15.5%. B. Chairman s Comments... Mr. Dathe a. Mr. Dathe thanked everyone for their support during his tenure as Chairman of NADCA. He said the Congress was well attended and that he looked forward to a strong remainder of V. Report of the Treasurer... Mr. Walker A. Mr. Walker reported that the Finance Committee met and were happy with the progress being made in our investments. The finance committee also recommended that the Board approve the 2014 budget. A motion was made to accept the Finance Committee s recommendation to approve the 2014 budget. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously. B. Mr. Walker said the Finance Committee also recommended NADCA sell the building at 241 Holbrook in Wheeling. A contract (attached as A) was offered and the Board would have to sign a document which indicated the Board approves the sale. Twarog read the document and then circulated it for the Board s signatures. A copy of the Board authorization signatures is attached as B. C. Twarog reported that the building will close on and NADCA will move in to their new space on VI. Report of the Secretary A. Executive Officers Committee Recommendation of 2014 Officers a. Mr. Greene reported that his committee nominates Mr. Treiber to be NADCA Chairman, Mr. Walker to be Vice-Chairman and MR. Doug Harmon to be Secretary/Treasurer in A motion was made to accept the Executive Committee slate as nominated. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously. B. Results of 2014 Board Slate Vote for Term a. Mr. Walker reported that the slate of Corporate Board officers was passed unanimously by the membership. C. Report on the Chapter Board Nominees Term a. Mr. Worthy reported that Chapter 6 and Chapter 15 still have open Board positions for the term. Twarog said he would contact all members of each Chapter to see who may have an interest in serving.

3 VII. Report of the President A. Twarog updated the Board on all of NADCA s goals in The updated report is attached as C. VIII. Activity Reports of Committee Meetings Since Last Board of Governors Meeting A. Committees a. Awards Committee 1. Wilson discussed the make-up of the Awards committee and the Board asked that Twarog confirm continued participation from the committee member in The three permanent rotating positions are the three immediate past Chairmen on NADCA. Other positions are grandfathered from the original committee. 2. The current committee members are: Mike Stroh (former NADCA Chairman 2008/09), Leonard Cordaro (former NADCA Chairman 2010/11), Bob Dathe (former NADCA Chairman 2012/13), Daniel Twarog, Dan Lane, Drew Debrey, and Bob Wilson. b. Government Affairs 1. Mr. Wolf reported that the committee had secured the services of the Franklin Partnership (TFP) for two years beginning on He said that goals have been established and that the issues being addressed are pertinent to the die casting industry. TFP has delivered new content for the NADCA website and did an outstanding job in organizing the Washington Briefing. 2. Wolf asked the Board to indicate whether they thought a Board meeting in DC, at the time of the Briefing, was a good idea in The Board unanimously supported suggestion. 3. Treiber also thanked TFP for organizing a plant visit from Tammy Duckworth s staff person. Worthy said a meeting will be held later this Fall with Congressman Walberg in the Chapter 3 area. c. Marketing Committee 1. Twarog reported that the Marketing Conference was being held directly after the Congress and 25 people are registered. He said the committee is seeking a new Chairperson for He said the committee is very actively promoting and supporting die casting applications and design. d. Laine Scholarship Committee Report 1. Twarog reported that applications for 2013 scholarships are due on The Trustees for Laine include himself, Mark Los, Scott Frens, Paul Brancaleon, and Mike Stroh. e. Harvill Foundation Board Report 1. Bob Dathe reported that the Harvill Board approved funding for two projects this year. The first one was a webinar series to be created and presented by Ed Herman on Managing Porosity. The second webinar series being funded by Harvill is on Advanced Operator Training. This is being developed by Henry Bakemeyer. Dathe said new topics for funding are being sought by the Harvill Board.

4 IX. New Business A. Product Recall Insurance Possible group policy The Board discussed Product recall insurance and asked that NADCA do the following: a. NADCA contact OESA to indicate our willingness to work with them on their efforts to impact the terms and conditions of the automotive OEM s. b. NADCA find a person to write or present on the best practices on how to insulate a company from future liability. B. Recognition of Outgoing Board Members Bob Dathe recognized and thanked the outgoing Board member for their service to the Board. The outgoing members were: Robert Black, Frank Haney, Mark Los, Mark Marshall & Ryan Winter. Chairman elect Treiber recognized Bob Dathe for his years of service to the NADCA Board and his two years of leadership as the Chairman. X. Next Board of Governors Meetings... 19 2013 Goals Membership Membership Corporate Retention 90%. Will work to hold on to the companies which joined just to get booth discounts in the Exposition. 94.7% Retained Corporate Recruitment Will increase the number of new corporate members by 10. Increased by 16 as of 10/1/13. Member Plus Development Will increase member plus subscribers to 250. As of 10/1/13 = 306 in member plus Member Relations We will visit every Chapter and put on at least one event in each Chapter area. Visited every interested Chapter and gave presentation to over 385 members. Plus visited 48 different companies.

20 2013 Goals Marketing Marketing Design Webinar Series with Sponsorship We conducted a 3 part webinar series targeted to OEMs on the topic of die design. Conducted two series each had 300+ new leads Marketing Conference Topics established by Marketing Committee and speakers selected. Conference concluded and had 25 attendees OEM Survey Die Casting Designer Value Survey released to OEM database via enewsletter Survey Completed Results to be published August Links magazine and presented at Marketing Conference.

21 2013 Goals Education Education Conduct 40 Technical/Management Webinars We will update and rerun many of our more popular webinars. We will develop new ones on topics suggested by the membership. Presented 63 webinars to date. Develop 10 new Webinar Topics We will develop 10 new topical webinars in These will be presented by staff or outside instructors. See following slide Externalize Webinar Instruction on 25% of Presentations At least 10 of the 40 webinars will be presented by non-staff. We need to expand our webinar presentations to include experts in the industry on various topics. See following slide Launch Member Testing/Evaluation Web Area We will launch and market our individual testing area online for people interested to see where they are proficient and/or lack expertise in a various areas of die casting. Launched in early August. Custom Webinar Development We will work with at least four die casters to put on custom webinar content for their facilities Currently in discussions with three die casters (Honda, Mercury, and Pace) and one supplier (Chem-Trend)

25 2013 Goals Conferences Conferences Executive Conference Over 100 in attendance Plant Management Conference 56 in attendance Government Affairs Conference 23 registered Marketing Conference 25 registered Louisville Congress - we will organize at least 24 papers and sell over 100 booths for the September Conference and Tabletop event. We will attempt to arrange plant tours in the area as part of this event. 120 booths/111 companies and 32 papers presented 763 attendance Increase Sponsorship $ for NADCA Events Sponsorship Opportunities for Exhibitors available in various tiered options. $18,000 in sponsorship paid.

26 2013 Goals Research Research Still in progress to complete by the end of 2013 Implement MMOD Results we will demonstrate the capabilities of our molten metal on demand research. Implement Die Lube Reduction Results we will show positive results in die casting companies that use the information and technology developed from our die lube reduction project. The goal is to have three die casters report reductions of at least 15% in die lube consumption. Prepare and Submit 2 proposals for Federal Funding submitted two proposals and one was selected (NAMII project). Start a Second Industry Funded Consortium We will start a second research project that is funded, in part, by a consortium of die casters and suppliers. The first one is underway on reducing die lube.

27 2013 Goals Technology Technology Develop 4 Engineering AP s for Members Apps scheduled to be released to Members plus in March, June, September, and December. 2 Engineering AP s developed, another in development. Move NADCA Software into Member Plus Area Gating, PQ2 and possibly Castview will be moved to the member plus area for exclusive access by this die casting social community. Gating moved to member plus area. PQ2 to be moved to member plus by November 1 st. Webinar Technology Exchange Between Countries Completed exchange with Australia. Three webinars scheduled to come from Germany in January, 2014.
