2 EFC Research Forum Workshop: Innovative forms of achieving research goals: beyond grants Turin, April 2018 Venue: Sala Lignea, Collegio Carlo Alberto, Piazza Arbarello, 8, Turin, Italy Abstract Modern society is faced with a number of big challenges and research and innovation play a key role in finding solutions to these challenges. With increased competition for funding, philanthropic organisations are continually looking for new and innovative ways to ensure that resources can go further. Blending loans with grants is one form of funding that foundations are currently exploring. With foundations independent status and freedom to experiment more, the philanthropic sector is in a prime position to explore new forms of funding their programmes. This workshop will first explore this issue from a researcher s perspective asking what innovative forms of funding are being explored, what role it can play and why it is beneficial to researchers. We will then hear from the European Investment Bank on how new forms of funding and how these development might be incorporated into the upcoming FP9 and what the possibilities are of partnering with foundations. Finally foundations will share their experiences so far with blended funding, looking at how this can be incorporated into funding strategies in different ways. 2

4 Speakers Alberto Anfossi, Territory Development Manager, Compagnia di San Paolo Director for the Local Development at the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation, former head of the fund raising and EU liason office. Consultant for the Italian national agency of the evaluation of universities and research centers (ANVUR). Degree and a PhD in theoretical physics; after some post-doc experiences and a master in Economics, he moved to a managerial path in research, first at Politecnico di Torino then cooperating with other public and private research centers including Collegio Carlo Alberto and the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), Italy. Shiva Dustdar, Head of the Innovation Finance Division, European Investment Bank Shiva heads the Innovation Finance Advisory Division in the EIB. She has been at the EIB since 2003, first in Risk Management, then in its Lending Directorate financing higher risk, innovative projects before joining the Advisory Services Department. Before EIB, Shiva was Director of High Yield at Fitch Rating Agency developing its European High Yield rating business and worked in the M&A Advisory and Emerging Markets Investment Banking Group at J.P. Morgan in New York and London. Shiva holds a BA in Economics from Columbia University and an Executive MBA from London Business School (LBS). In 2000, Shiva co-founded the European High Yield Association (EHYA), which is now part of the Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME). In 2006, Credit Magazine nominated Shiva to its Top 50 Women in Credit. Carla Ferrari, CFO, Compagnia di San Paolo Carla Patrizia Ferrari is the Chief Financial Officer of Compagnia di SANPAOLO, an Italian banking foundation based in Turin, Italy. She graduated in Economics at the University of Genoa in 1981 and started to work for the European Institutions in Brussels in She was the manager of the Economic Research Unity in Frankfurt of the Italian Bank - Istituto Bancario San Paolo di Torino - from 1987 to Since 1988 she developed her professional career in the Sanpaolo Bank, holding different positions, General Manager and CEO of Banca Opi, the group's bank specialized in public finance. She is a board member of companies active in public-private partnership projects, like Transdev S.A owned by CDC in Paris. In 2013 she entered the Management Board of Intesa Sanpaolo Bank. In 2015 she became member of the Board of Cdp (Cassa Depositi e Prestiti) in Rome. She is chairperson of Equiter SpA since She is chairperson of Compagnia di San Paolo Sistema Torino since In 2017 she became member of Board of Prima Industrie SpA. Angel Font Vidal, Corporate Director of Research and Strategy, la Caixa Banking Foundation Àngel Font i Vidal holds a PhD in Economics (Barcelona Ramon Llull University) and a Degree in Chemistry (Barcelona University). He also has a diploma in Business Management from EADA. He began his career as environmental engineer, and subsequently joined INTERMÓN OXFAM where he held different management positions, first in programs serving as Latin America Desk Officer and after as a Deputy Director, where he was liaison officer with Oxfam, and strategic planning manager. He funded the Un Sol Món (One World) Foundation financed by Caixa Catalunya, where he runs job placement, social entrepreneurship, social housing and microfinance projects. In 2010 he joined the la Caixa Foundation, as coordinator of strategic development, a position that combined with the Human Resources Management of the Foundation. In 2014 he joined the Executive Committee of the Foundation, where he serves as a secretary. He has been member of the board of different local charities and IQS-School of Management and Engineering (Ramon Llull University) and was the first Vice-President of the European Microfinance Network. 4

5 Åke Iverfeldt, CEO, MISTRA The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research Åke Iverfeldt is the CEO of Mistra, the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research. He manages an independent organization focusing on major challenges associated with environmental impact and use of resources. Thematically, this means addressing solutions connected to climate change, circular economy, materials and production technology, food and bio-economy, as well as cross-cutting issues. Mistra s primary tool is long-term financing of large scale research programs and centers that foster sustainable development of society, as well as the Swedish competitiveness. As CEO of Mistra, Åke Iverfeldt has a strong focus on the total impact on society of Mistra activities; from the financing of scientific research programs, from the sustainable asset management, and from being a platform for communication of ideas. Recently, Åke was a member of the Analytical Group on Green Transition, reporting to the Office for Strategic Development at the Swedish Prime Minister s Office. Today, he is a member of The National Program Committee on Food, The National Program Committee on Climate, and The National Program Committee on Sustainable Building of the Society. All three a coordination effort from the Swedish Government towards having national research agendas. During the period 1999 to 2014, Åke was Vice Executive Managing Director for IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute, a research organization he joined in As a scientist he has a wide experience ranging from air pollution, heavy metals, energy efficiency, building products, green finance, etc. This also includes coordination of an EU-FP5 project. As a consultant, he has also worked both in Sweden and globally, on mission assignments from for example Swedish Government, EU, OECD and NIB. He is also a co-founder of the Sweden Green Building Council, and a previous member of its Board of Directors. Fredrik Lundmark, Research Manager Riksbanken Jubileumsfond Fredrik Lundmark has long experience in grant making in the field of research. He is now Programme Manager at the Swedish foundation for humanities and social sciences Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. He has been involved in numerous international joint ventures and collaborations with foundations all over the world, and served as a member in several national committees in relation to research and higher education. Lundmark has a back ground as a sociologist specializing in values and attitudes in society and he had his doctorate at Uppsala University. Previously he held a position at the research department at the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency where he was responsible for environmental research in the social sciences. Fredrik Lundmark is currently chairing the Research Forum within the European Foundation Centre. The Forum provides a platform for research-funding foundations to learn, collaborate and advocate together and facilitates more effective philanthropic support for research through transnational cooperation and information exchange. Paolo Mulassano, Deputy Director, Istituto Superiore Mario Boella / Links Foundation Paolo Mulassano received the executive MBA from ESCP Europe in 2015, the Ph.D. in Communication Engineering from Politecnico di Torino University in 2004 and the Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Summa Cum Laude) from the same university in Paolo is Deputy Director of Istituto Superiore Mario Boella (no-profit research organization) and of the LINKS Foundation (Tech Transfer organization). He is also acting as Innovation Manager of the new Research & Innovation fund managed by Equiter SPA under a specific framework set up by EIB and MIUR. 5

6 Paolo Mulassano has extensive experience on EU programs devoted to research and innovation. He has been program and project manager of several national and European-funded projects (mainly on Galileo-related activities) and author of more than 120 publications on scientific journals, conference proceedings and book chapters. From July 2010 to January 2012 he was heading the Microsoft Innovation Center Torino, and on the academic side since 2018 he is adjunct professor in Innovation Management of University of Torino Tore Remman, CEO, CFeed Tore Remman is the CEO of CFeed since Prior to this he has been the CEO at Nutrimar, CEO of Marine Harvest Ingredients and has also worked at Marine Harvest South, Tine Meierier and Kraft Freia Marabou. His education includes Competence and Phycology in Organisations from Economic Institute of BI and a Bachelor from the Institute of Food Technology in Trondheim. He is a Board Member of The Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise Bioeconomy Panel and the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise. He is married with 2 daughters. Theo Schuyt, Professor of Philanthropic Studies, Vrij Universiteit Amsterdam Prof. Theo N.M. Schuyt Ph.D holds since 2001 the chair Philanthropic Studies at VU University Amsterdam; the first chair on philanthropy in The Netherlands and the EU. He also holds since 2014 the endowed chair Philanthropy and Social Innovation at Maastricht University. He is founder of the Giving the Netherlands (GIN) research project, started in 1995, the President of the European Research Network on Philanthropy (ERNOP), started in 2007, and the Director of the Giving Europe project. He was the host and organizer of the ISTR 2018 Conference in Amsterdam, July th His research topics include His research topics include philanthropy and welfare states; social policy, foundations and (community) foundations, corporate social responsibility, gerontophilanthropy, the philanthropy scale. 6
