1 DR. CAROL A. CARTWRIGHT Dr. Carol A. Cartwright, who is one of the most highly respected voices in higher education, is the first woman to take a presidential role at Bowling Green State University. She was named the president of BGSU Jan. 6, 2009, after serving as interim president since July Dr. Cartwright s experience in Ohio was key to the BGSU Board of Trustee s decision to name her president. She also has a keen understanding of the opportunities available through the University System of Ohio and is supportive of the vision of Gov. Strickland and Chancellor Fingerhut. She became Kent State University s 10th president and the first woman president of a state university in Ohio in March She retired as president in June 2006 and was named president emeritus. Prior to her career at Kent State, she was vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of California at Davis and dean for undergraduate programs and vice provost at The Pennsylvania State University. 2 Dr. Cartwright held prominent leadership roles on higher education s most influential national organizations, chairing the board of directors of the American Association for Higher Education and serving on the boards of directors of the American Council on Education and the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges. She chaired the National Collegiate Athletic Association Executive Committee and served as a member of the NCAA s board of directors. She also served on the executive board of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education; the Center for Research Libraries board of directors; and the American Council on Education Commission on Women in Higher Education. She currently serves on the board of directors of the American Association of Colleges and Universities; the Knight Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics; and the National Public Radio board of directors. Dr. Cartwright was a leading member of numerous regional and statewide civic and economic-development organizations, including the Greater Akron Chamber, the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education and NorTech. She co-chaired the Ohio Technology in Education Committee, which developed Ohio s master plan for educational technology from preschool through graduate school. Her participation in initiatives to improve Ohio s economy includes past service on the Governor s Commission on Higher Education and the Economy. Dr. Cartwright also serves on the boards of directors of three companies with headquarters in Northeast Ohio: KeyCorp and PolyOne Corporation of Cleveland and FirstEnergy Corp. of Akron. The scope of her contributions to higher education led to Dr. Cartwright's induction into the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame in her first year of eligibility. She received Distinguished Alumni awards from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and the University of Pittsburgh; the Clairol Mentor Award in Education; the YWCA Greater Cleveland Women of Achievement Award; the Northeast Ohio ATHENA Award; and the March of Dimes Franklin Delano Roosevelt Humanitarian Award for Excellence. After announcing her retirement as president, she was honored throughout the region, state and nation, including recognition in the form of resolutions of 2010 Foley & Lardner LLP 2

3 appreciation from the Ohio Legislature and the U.S. Congress. She was awarded the title President Emeritus from the Kent State University Board of Trustees. In addition, the Auditorium Building on the university s Kent Campus was named Carol A. Cartwright Hall in her honor. Dr. Cartwright earned master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and her bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater. She and Dr. G. 4 MICHAEL W. GREBE Michael W. Grebe is the President and CEO of the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation. Prior to becoming the Foundation s CEO, Mr. Grebe was a member of the Foundation s Board of Directors for six years. He is also chairman of the Greater Milwaukee Committee and co-chairman of the seven-county M7 economic development project in southeastern Wisconsin. Mr. Grebe received his Bachelor's degree with honors from the United States Military Academy and his law degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan. He served in the United States Army and was awarded the Combat Infantryman s Badge and two Bronze Stars (one for valor) for his service in Vietnam. Mr. Grebe lives in Milwaukee and is married to Patricia Perry. He has two children, a son and daughter. 5 HOWARD H STEVENSON HOWARD H. STEVENSON, Sarofim-Rock Baker Foundation Professor, is the senior associate dean, Director of Harvard Business Publishing. He is a member and former chair of the Entrepreneurial Management Unit and was previously Vice Provost for Harvard University Resources and Planning, the Business School's senior associate dean and Director of External Relations, chair of the Latin American Faculty Advisory Group, senior associate dean and Director of Financial and Information Systems, and former faculty chair of the Owner/President Management (OPM) Program. Mark Waxman is a partner with Foley & Lardner LLP, where he is former chair of the Health Care Industry Team and a member of the White Collar Defense Practice and Life Sciences Industry Team. Mr. Waxman s health care practice focuses on health care issues for for-profit and not-for-profit providers and payers. His experience in this area includes issues related to research and technology, integrated delivery systems, trade associations, governance, strategic business counseling, the antitrust implications of mergers and acquisitions, federal program fraud and abuse, reimbursement and managed care contracting. These disputes have involved complex commercial, class action, regulatory, health care and technology matters in state and federal trial and appellate courts, as well as the United States Supreme Court. He has resolved significant civil and criminal investigations in a number of states around the country. Prior to joining Foley's Boston office, Mr. Waxman was president and general counsel of CareGroup, Inc., a nonprofit healthcare system which includes the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an academic health center affiliated with the Harvard Medical School, community hospitals and multiple physician organizations. During his tenure, the CareGroup System engaged in a unique turnaround, selling non-productive assets, reformed its board structures, dealt with state and federal regulators, engaged in a refinancing, and ultimately returned to financial health and investment grade in a new confederation model of nonprofit system activity. While at CareGroup, Mr. Waxman also served as a board member of the CRICO Captive Insurance carrier, serving on its Underwriting and Intellectual Property Committees. 7 chairman of the Picker Institute. Mr. Waxman is a former board member of MedVentive, a managed care data and contract management company. He also serves as a volunteer mentor with the MIT Venture Mentoring Services. Chambers, a company based in London that reviews and rates American lawyers and publishes its ratings for European and American businesses, rated Mr. Waxman to be one of the top healthcare attorneys in the state of Massachusetts for 2007, 2008 and In 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, Mr. Waxman was selected for inclusion in the Massachusetts Super Lawyers lists. Only 5% of the lawyers in the state were selected. In 2005, Mr. Waxman was recognized as a Finalist, Entrepreneur of the Year, by Ernst & Young for the New England Region. Prior to February of 2000, Mr. Waxman was a partner in the Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., offices of Foley & Lardner. He chaired the firm s mid-atlantic and eastern United States health law practice. He was an assistant United States attorney for the Central District of California before associating with Foley & Lardner. Mr. Waxman writes and lectures extensively on a variety of health care issues, including health system governance, medical research and technology, compliance, managed care, antitrust issues, and health care fraud and abuse. He has served as the chairman of the ABA Health Law Section Medical Research, Technology and Ethics Subcommittee. He has been a member of the American Hospital Association's Task Force on Antitrust and Business Coalitions and of the board of directors of the American Health Lawyers Association. He is a member of the BNA Health Law Reporter Advisory Board, BNA Medical Research Law & Policy Reporter Advisory Board, IRB Advisor Editorial Board, the American Health Lawyers Association, and the Healthcare Financial Management Association, serving as chairman of the Massachusetts Chapter Research and Education Committee.
