This will be the second of a 2-part presentation covering personal security as it pertains to fraud examiners as they conduct investigations. 3 Last Month s Meeting Summary September 9, 2015 Sam Rosenberg President, INPAX Academy of Personal Protection Topic: Personal Security for the 21st Century Part 1 of 2 The speaker for the September meeting was Mr. Sam Rosenberg, founder and President of INPAX Academy of Personal Protection. Mr. Rosenberg s presentation addressed how to manage a situation if it gets out of control, and more importantly, how to prevent a situation from getting out of control. Certified fraud examiners may find themselves dealing with individuals and in situations which may become confrontational. For example, an interview may become contentious or a fraud perpetrator may become agitated when served with a warrant. In these cases, Mr. Rosenberg explains that you need to intentionally use both the limbic part of your brain and the cerebral cortex. The limbic system recognizes intuition and body language and helps to determine when a situation may be escalating. The cerebral cortex controls higher thought and is where the brain processes incoming stimuli via the S.A.F.E. (stimulus, analysis, formation, execution) process. The fastest time that stimuli can be processed through this system is ½ second. Mr. Rosenberg also discussed the security paradigm, the difference between the way violence is depicted in society (via movies, sports) and how it actually occurs, the psychology of an individual who is or may become violent, and much more. JIM WEBER, Ph.D. Jim Weber is currently a Professor of Business Ethics and Management and Executive Director of the Institute for Ethics in Business at Duquesne University. He has been published in numerous academic journals and is the co-author of 14 th edition of Business and Society: Stakeholders, Ethics, Public Policy, published by McGraw-Hill/Irwin, Inc. DANIEL DESKO, CISA, CISSP, CTPRP Dan is a leader in the IT Audit, Security and Risk Advisory services practice at Schneider Downs. Prior to Dan s career in audit and security he worked in the technology departments of a Fortune 150 manufacturer and a Fortune 50 healthcare insurance provider. Prior to joining Robert Morris University, Dr. Crawley worked in human resources at TransAmerica Corporation, and in 1992, Dr. Crawley served as a policy advisor for Bernie Grant, a Member of the British Parliament and founder of the Parliamentary Black Caucus. Dr. Crawley has been the recipient of the WQED Multimedia Duquesne Light African-American Leadership Award, the Onyx Business Women of the Year Award, Women of Excellence Award from the New Pittsburgh Courier, and the RMU School of Business Service Award.
