3 Comoser Notes Public erformances/recordings Recordings of Preludes #1,#2,# have been incororated in The Dance of the Lyrebird documentary roduced by Tessy and Berndt Amesriter in 21 They were erformed live on stage on the 7 th and 8 th January 212 during the remiere of The Dance of the Lyrebird documentary in Foster Memorial Hall (Foster, Australia) and during my recital on th of May 21 at Mt Best Hall (Mt Best, Australia), along with the Prelude #. Preludes #7 and #8 were erformed live at Mt Best Hall on 2 March 21 #1: No accidentals Comosed in The title came to my mind when I wrote the score of this relude on aer: there were no accidentals in the score... The tremolo section may be reeated an arbitrary number of times and can serve as a stand-alone tremolo etude. #2: Romance This relude has also been known by another title: Falling in Love. I comosed it in 2, shortly after I wrote my second book The Freedom of Choice that addressed the urose of existence and meaning of life. #: Lyrebird Song I comosed and recorded this relude in two days at the request of roducers of the Dance of the Lyrebird documentary, Tessy and Berndt Amesriter, in 21 The lyrebird is an Australian icon bird, immortalized on a 1-cent Australian coin, but very few Australians had an oortunity to see and hear a lyrebird in its natural environment. Among birds, the lyrebird is the world s best imersonator. In addition to comosing their individual songs, lyrebirds learn to mimic other birds, sounds in the forest and can even mimic a sound of a chainsaw. If you haen to live next to their habitat you can learn to distinguish singing sequences of individual birds. The Lyrebird Song aims to illustrate a contrast between the eacefully majestic harmony of a lyrebird s habitat (Strzelecki rainforest in ictoria, Australia) and the high-itch lyrebird song sequences that start without warning. There are two lyrebird songs resent in this comosition: one imitates a comlex sound sequences of a mature male lyrebird and another imitates a song of a very young male lyrebird, which is just trying to learn to sing its very first song. I haven t tried to imitate a chainsaw sound... #: Echoes I comosed this relude a few days before my recital at Mt Best Hall, Australia on May 2 My aim was to try to lay music that was memorable in a sense that at least some listeners could remember the melody or feelings they associated with it after the music stoed. This relude is called Echoes because it relies on free strings E, A and D to echo the harmonics of notes layed on 2

4 treble strings, whenever ossible. Have this in mind when erforming. #: Rondo I comosed Rondo in 2 to illustrate my method of otimal tuning of classical guitar. htt://mtbest.net/guitar_tuning.html Rondo quickly reveals if a guitar at hand is able to maintain good tuning in high fingerboard ositions or needs some work to otimize its tuning. #: Nocturne Comosed in 2 It requires a guitar with XX fret for E1 string. #7: Cantilena on D string Comosed in March 2 First erformed in ublic at Mt Best Hall (Mt Best, Australia) on 2 March 2 #8: Promenade Comosed in 1999 During long continuous erformances I layed this relude between other comositions to relax instead of making a break. #9: Domra Comosed in 2 The title of this relude was insired by a comment from a family member, who said that arts of this relude, although layed on guitar, resembled a sound and style of domra.
