1 Family & Regional History Program Wallace State Community College P. O. Box N. Main Street Hanceville, Alabama USA E mail: robert.davis@wallacestate.edu Fax: (256) Phone: (256) MAJOR HOLDINGS OF THE FAMILY AND REGIONAL HISTORY PROGRAM The Family and Regional History Program, Wallace State College, P. O. Box 2000, Hanceville, AL (Phone: ; genws@hiwaay.net) is on the fifth floor of the college library. The college is located near Cullman, Alabama, and is on Highway 31, a few miles east of Interstate-65 (take the Hanceville Highway 91 Exit), only one hour from Birmingham, Gadsden, and Huntsville. Our extensive and growing collection of research materials includes books, periodicals, microfilm, microfiche, CD-ROM disks, computer programs, family folders, and much more. The hours are 7:30 to 8:15, Monday through Thursday; 7:30AM to 4PM on Fridays; and 9AM to 3 PM on Saturdays. The collection is completely open to the general public. The Program also offers college credit courses in genealogy from basic courses to computers to such specialties as Civil War era research. Some courses are purely research field trips to archives and libraries across the South. Our holdings include much more material than can be described here. Our books and microfilm appear on the library s on-line catalog at the web site for Wallace State College Hanceville and can be searched by author, title, subject, and word. The catalog does not include books on microfiche although those books have been referenced in our family folders collection. Our books and microfilms all use the same Library of Congress call numbers, so that books on the sixth floor use the same numbers as microfilm on the same subjects/ places on the fifth floor. We were the first non LDS Library to have access to the some three million micrfoilm reels and microfiche of the world-wide microfilm and family history collection of the Church of Latter Day Saints. Records found through these catalogs can be borrowed by us from their library in Salt Lake City, for your use. Our department also has subscriptions to the the genealogy web sites Ancestry.com, Genealogy.com, and Heritage Quest. The list below also does not include microfiche of books in the library's complete set of The Microbook Library of American Civilization (consult the published catalog) and many our other books on microfiche (consult our handout on our microfiche collection). Our Ready Reference Shelf includes many different types of dictionaries and reference books. The vertical files, in the filing cabinets by the Ready Continued next page 1
