RECORDS FOR GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH The National Archives-Southeast Region has custody of millions of records, on paper and on microfilm, created by various agencies of the United States Government. The records most useful for genealogical research are listed in this pamphlet. These records may contain full information about a person or little more than a name.
3 The census records for consist of nationwide listings in each census year. Indexes are available for many censuses. General military indexes cover volunteer soldiers from throughout the United States taking part in several wars. Other microfilm collections specify the port, state and/or region. Most of the Southeast Region's textual holdings are from Federal agencies and U. S. District Courts in eight Southeastern states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee). The World War I Draft Registration Cards cover the entire United States--a nationwide collection. Researchers wishing to use this collection may do so between the hours of 8:30-3:00.
