6 THE FAMILY TREE T HE PROCESS BEGINS with the creation of the Family Tree, highlighting the remarkable ancestors discovered during the painstaking research process. Armed with only a handful of names and dates, our researchers build the tree from which the family story can then be told. 9

8 THE DOCUMENT TRAIL ONCE THE FAMILY TREE is in place, the search for the unique and extraordinary stories begins. Genealogica tracks down as many documents, maps, newspaper articles, secret files, photographs, written oral testimony, and any other pertinent records as exist. Delving into public archives, private collections, libraries, churches, graveyards, records offices, and multiple government agencies around the world, Genealogica goes wherever the trail leads. To date, it has taken us as far afield as Romania, Belarus, India, Cameroon, Greece, Italy, Ireland, and Hungary to name but a few. The names and dates on the tree come to life as they are put into an historical and geographical context, from which the family story can then be told. 11

A brief meeting to determine in which direction the research should go, who it is ultimately for and what purpose it is intended to serve certainly helps guide us.
