Judy G Russell, JD, CG, CGL, The Legal Genealogist, is a genealogist with a law degree, and her purpose is, in part, to help folks understand the often arcane and even impenetrable legal concepts and terminology that are so very important to those of us studying family history. Without understanding the context in which events took place and records were created, we miss so much of both the significance and the flavor of what happened. Judy holds a bachelor s degree in journalism with a political science minor from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and a law degree from Rutgers School of Law-Newark. She has worked as a newspaper reporter, trade association writer, legal investigator, defence attorney, federal prosecutor, law editor, and, for more than 20 years, an adjunct member of the faculty at Rutgers Law School, as well as a genealogist. A 12th generation native of Sussex County, Delaware, Tom graduated from Washington College (Maryland) in 1983 with a B.A. in History. After serving as an air traffic controller in the United States Navy for four years he returned to the Delaware area and began working as an archivist at the Delaware Public Archives in Tom earned his Master of Education in Elementary Studies from Wilmington College in In 1997, Tom was assigned the position of Coordinator of Public Programming for the Archives. This role included the development of educational programs. The first Archives education kit, entitled Teaching Delaware History with Primary Sources, was distributed in 1998 to public and private schools throughout the state. The Society of American Archivists honored the kit with the Hamer-Kegan Award. This national award recognizes successful projects that increase public awareness of archival or manuscript materials. Promoted to Manager of Outreach Services in 2005, Tom has continued to expand the Archives educational program by organizing and distributing education kits aimed at the eighth grade and the high school levels. Frank Southcott, MBA, is a professional genealogist who specializes in historic Chester County, Pennsylvania, research and family history. He is an avid enthusiast of the Pennsylvania Revolutionary War militia and is currently seeking to establish family relationships by correlating early tax records, oaths of allegiance, and militia service to the various early
6 townships of Chester County. His family has deep roots in Chester County and a late Irish grandmother who has tested his genealogical skills. He is the President of the Greater Philadelphia Area Chapter, Association of Professional Genealogists, and President, International Society for British Genealogy and Family History, which conducts the annual British Institute in Salt Lake City. He has researched extensively in the British Isles, Newfoundland, and Pennsylvania. Researching Family in Pennsylvania is made possible through the collaboration of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and The Greater Philadelphia Area Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists.
