2 Legal name Basics Full contact information (address and phone numbers) Use your university address for professional look Your specific degree (BSIS or BS) from Texas A&M University- Texarkana, (spell it out; no abbreviations) graduation date: May 10, Also Your certification-ec-6 Generalist (or content) Teacher Certification (or 4-8, 8-12); pending approval by TEA (if you have passed your TExES), if not, add the TExES you need to pass Objective: My goal is to teach.. (This should be simple and clear.)

3 Work Experience Additional Training Awards and Memberships NOTE: There are many ways to create a resume. This is a basic power point of suggestions to get you started for your portfolio and your teaching job search.

4 You may not have very much work experience, but clearly state what you have been doing during for the last years.

5 Start currently and work backwards. It s okay to say that you have been a full time student. If you worked with people in retail, restaurant or business, you were learning to get along with all ages of people and this is beneficial to you being a teacher. If you skip a few years, they will assume the worst- jail? If you were a stay at home parent or you volunteered in a school, organization or church, that is important. You made a choice to work, even if you were not paid. Those organizational skills will help you to be a better teacher.

6 Your student/clinical teaching experience is your teaching experience. Example: Spring semester 2014 Student Teacher, Pleasant Grove ISD 5 th grade self-contained classroom with Mrs. Dodie Hughes 2 nd grade self-contained classroom with Mrs. Cynthia Wesley You weren t paid for this, but you worked hard! (I appreciate your efforts and so will school personnel.)

7 This can be skills from previous jobs or talents or workshops you attended.

8 List the training and the dates you attended. If you have a certificate to verify the training, that could go in a presentation portfolio. (You can create one in Tk20, but it is different from the Education Portfolio you are completing for this semester.) Make it a habit to save these certificates so that you will have them every five years when you update your Teacher Certification through TEA. 9 Scholarships and honors that you have earned recently

10 List the scholarships and awards you have received by the name and the year. There is some discussion as to whether high school should be included or not. The school personnel who read this resume will take an interest in cheer or sports if they think they might have an opening for these areas. If you have absolutely no interest in being a coach or sponsor, I would not include these awards. As with the whole resume, don t make up information for this section. If you get caught fabricating, you would be embarrassed and your resume would not be considered. Again, talents and athletics could be used in classrooms.

11 University and community memberships help explain your interests and how you spend your time. Many ask about church affiliation. In our area, it is acceptable, but in other areas of our world, it would not be considered appropriate. Volunteer hours usually stem from memberships. Example: Literacy Council Board Member, present Attend monthly meetings Assist with planning and conducting annual Spelling Bee as a fund raiser Tutor students weekly at Center,

12 Now that you know WHAT should go on your resume, what should it look like?

13 I Googled Teacher Resumes and many examples popped up. This one page look is your goal. The items are bulleted and it s neat. NO frills or photos. You don t need to buy a format. Set it up yourself using the categories I ve suggested.
