Setting up your Notebook On the 2irst page of your spiral notebook write the following: 1 Your 8irst and last name 2 Geometry 3 Semester 1
Setting up your Notebook This is on the right side of your notebook! Today s Lesson #: U1A1 (Unit 1 Activity 1) Topic: Basic Geometric Figures Learning Objective (LO) #1: Identify, describe, and name points, lines, line segments, rays, angles, and planes using correct notation.
U1A1 Geometric Figures Open Springboard and gently tear out pages (Lift up to easily tear out pages!) I personally will staple these pages together such that they stay in order. Please tear out pg. 11 (This is your homework)
U1A1 Basic Geometric Figures Pg. 3 As a class we will read the directions sentence by sentence and highlight (yellow) the skills. After reading the second sentence, independently answer questions 1-7 only. (3 minutes)
U1A1 Basic Geometric Figures We will continue to read the directions and highlight (yellow) the skill(s). As a table, see if you can identify the appropriate name for each and write it below your description. (1 minute) Highlight (green) each of the terms we identi8ied.
U1A1 Geometric Figures Turn to the next page. This is a diagram that lists all the de8initions and examples of what you just described. We are going to create a study tool that will help you easily remember/reference these Basic Geometric Figures. J Everyone will receive 2 foldables and as a class we will write the vocabulary on it!
U1A1 Geometric Figures Basic Geometric Figures Foldable ü Fold your green paper in half horizontally (hamburger style). Cut along the fold. ü Fold each piece in half horizontally (hamburger style). ü Fold each piece in thirds. ü Using scissors, cut one side of the thirds creating a door. ü Label each one of the doors with the following words: Point, Line, Line Segment, Ray Plane, and Angle.
U1A1 Geometric Figures Basic Geometric Figures Foldable ü Open up the door and on the left we will provide a description of the word and on the right we will provide an example by drawing and naming it. We will do this portion as a class on the main whiteboard. Description: Represented by Named with Example: Sketch All possible names
U1A1 Geometric Figures Basic Geometric Figures Foldable ü Glue or tape the bottom of these pieces into your notebook (side by side).
U1A1 Geometric Figures You will have 4 minutes to complete 8-10 on page 4-5 AND Try These (a-b) on page 6. You may work with your tablemates. Please compare answers. Remember to highlight (yellow) the skill. I will randomly call on you using the popsicle sticks to write your solutions on the board. J
U1A1 Geometric Figures
U1A1 Geometric Figures Everyone stand. Ø If you think the above naming is incorrect remain standing. You may de8initely discuss in your groups. Ø It says explain. Why is the naming incorrect? Remain standing if you feel comfortable answering this question.
U1A1 Geometric Figures Everyone stand. Ø It says describe. Remain standing if you feel comfortable answering this question.

Cool Down (Part 1) We are going to revisit the Unpacked Embedded Assessment. Quickly reread todays learning objective. Which skill/knowledge would satisfy LO#1?
Cool Down (Part 2) Below your foldable I will give you one problem to complete independently in as much detail as possible. (#17-20) Compare solutions with your tablemates. If one of your tablemates included more information or a better solution please correct/edit yours. We are constantly working to create the best possible solutions! J
