1 Measuring structions Vinyl iner for ground Pools GENER INSTRUTIONS 1. The accuracy of the vinyl liner s fit is directly related to the completeness and accuracy of the pool s measurements. 2. Do not assume anything. onsiderable amounts of time and money can be lost because assumptions were made. Dimensions vary among manufacturers and more often than not, the pool s dimensions are quite different than its original specifications. 3. iners are produced slightly smaller than the dimensions given, in order to allow vinyl liners to stretch into place. Please measure, record and order all vinyl liners using the exact finished dimensions of the pool. 4. The required dimensions on the measuring forms are those that are necessary to manufacture a vinyl liner for that shape. Pools designed as such are constructed with straight walls and sharply defined changes of plane. Many pools do not resemble their intended design. (See next section ommon Mistakes ). If irregularities are encountered, please make the appropriate notations on the measuring form. OMMON MISTKES WHEN MESURING POOS PoolTux measuring forms are not used. Measurements are not legibly written. Measuring the length of slopes rather than their horizontal or vertical planes. Estimating dimensions without actually verifying the measurements. Failure to measure the length, width and depth of the pool in several locations. When recording an overall depth, distance from the top of the coping to receptor track is not subtracted. ssuming that an existing pool meets the standard pool specifications that were furnished by the original manufacture. Recording sectional dimensions that do not equal the total length or width of the pool. Forgetting to measure and record the pool s diagonal dimensions. Few pools are square. Not measuring diagonals to their projected square comers when necessary. Recording dimensions in feet/inches and inches. Please record feet and inches only. PoolTux identifies a pool s hand direction by viewing the pool from its shallow end, using the matching order form eliminates confusion. Not recording actual dimensions and incorrectly measuring or omitting a corner radius. Forgetting to supply hopper configurations and measurements, particularly on Grecians. Forgetting to supply total perimeter of pools when required, such as with point to point drawings. Omission of break over end locations points & the distance between them on all freeform pools. Submitting orders in which the sum of the stair riser heights is not equal to the finished side wall height. Omission of essential step dimensions such as width, corner configurations, setback/flush, location, step attachment (rod pockets, hook & loop or bead) preferences with VOS (vinyl over step). hosen vinyl material thickness is not identified. eaving the pool site before crosschecking all measurements to verify their accuracy. 2 Measuring structions Vinyl iner for ground Pools VINY INER MESURING INSTRUTIONS OMMON MESURING PROEMS Many existing pools differ from the drawings shown in dig specification books from which they were taken. It is important to know what some of these differences are and how to account for them on each measuring fonn. If a side view of an existing pool was overlaid on the side view of the drawings that appears on the vinyl liner measuring form, it is probable that the two would not be identical. Discrepancies can affect the fit of the liner in two general ways. the illustration below, the solid line represents a measuring form while the hyphenated line indicates actual measurements. 1. Whenever the actual measurements are above the drawing, a vinyl liner will be loose and may have wrinkles. 2. Whenever the actual measurements are below the drawing a vinyl liner will be too tight. PROEMS MY OUR IN SEVER PES 1. Slopes may be convex. that case, specify the location and the amount so when the liner is designed this is taken into account. 2. tersections of angles may not be sharply defined & instead may be rounded. Please specify where and how much they are rounded so the variation can be accounted for in the vinyl liners design. 3. The pool bottom may be bowled. Points must be selected on the pool bottom that will approximate the actual end of the slope. If a note is made on the measuring from that the pool bottom is bowled the design team will be able to account for it. Page 2 FX ll ompleted Order Forms To
3 IMPORTNT Measuring structions Vinyl iner for ground Pools VINY INER MESURING INSTRUTIONS If the hopper is bowled or rounded at the point where the slope and the hopper pad meet, the horizontal measurements must extend to the point where the horizontal floor truly starts and the caving ends. The danger of measuring to the imaginary intersection of the slope and the floor is that doing so can create excess material at the hopper pad where the pad and the slope meet (see point Z in drawing below).y measuring as shown, puckers in the hopper can be eliminated. 6 Measuring structions Vinyl iner for ground Pools VINY INER MESURING INSTRUTIONS Step by Step Measuring Step #1 hoose Your Pool Type Select the appropriate measuring form to ensure that you measure all the required dimensions in order to properly produce your vinyl liner. See measuring forms. Step #2 hoose Your iner Type and Pattern Please determine if your liner is beaded or overlap. If your liner has a bead on it please refer to the bead chart in order to determine the correct bead for your liner. dicate both the wall and floor pattern of your choice. lso select the mil thickness of the pattern. Refer to the liner brochure to see patterns and available thickness. Step #3 Measure the ength and Width of the Pool Refer to the measuring form for a diagram of your pool and where these measurements are located. ll measurements should be taken at the ED REEIVER (where your liner will snap into) and NOT at the edge of the coping (or pool deck). Some pool shapes require additional perimeter dimensions (ex. azy- & True-). Step #4 orner Type & Size Record the comer type of your pool. lso record its size.(see ommon Radius and Diagonal omer Sizes). Step #5 Measure Diagonals Please refer to the measuring forms that show the required diagonals in order to design a liner that will fit properly. Diagonals are very important because few pools are perfectly square. If pool comers are diagonal or radius, make sure to measure diagonals to the squared off comer.(see ommon Radius and Diagonal orner Sizes). Step #6 Measuring ottom IMPORTNT: Please measure Horizontal Measurements of the Pool ottom. Please refer to page 2 of the measuring form for all bottom configurations and required dimensions. On measuring form, please circle your bottom configuration and fill in all required dimensions in order to ensure your liner does not get held up due to missing information. lso please make sure that all bottom dimensions add up to the length and width of the pool. Note that for pools with a safety ledge, this is included in the G dimension. The design team will take this into account when designing your liner. Step #7 Vinylovered Steps Please refer to page 3 of the measuring form for all required dimensions for a vinyl covered step. Please make sure form is completely filled out so that your order does not get held up due to missing dimensions. ll vinyl covered steps will be produced with bottom material unless otherwise specified. lso the standard step fastener will be Rod Pockets unless otherwise specified. Step #8 Review & Fax Order Please review your order form and ensure that it is filled out completely and accurately. Once you are confident in all measurements please fax them to (800) Page 6 FX ll ompleted Order Forms To

When preparing to measure for a liner using the point to point triangulation method, you should first determine the best placement of the - line. It is recommended that it be on either side of the pool length and roughly parallel with the centerline of the pool. 2. Establish two points, - with on the left as shown. The - line must be 3 away from the pool and 213 the length of the pool;20-25 is typical (show this on the sketch). To mark - points on deck- use chalk, on dirt or grass- use stakes. Do not remove the - stakes or marks until the measurements have been confirmed and approved. e sure to record the distance between and. NOTE: The - line must never cross the pool line and should be approximately 3 away from the pool at the closest point (4 to 5 away from pools over 44 long). 3. Using chalk or tape, mark and number points for the deep I shallow breaks (P,Q,R,R) and steps. Mark the ends of straight walls, reverse radius, and corners. For the remaining pool perimeter mark at approximately 2 intervals. tervals of 1 or less should be used on small or tight radius areas.use a minimum of three points on radius corners. If the deck cantilevers the pool wall, mark the deck appropriately to represent the pool wall. combination square can aid in transferring marks to the coping. 4. Measurements are now taken from point to #1,then point #2, and all the way around the pool. Then measure from point to same point #1 and then #2, as you did for point. Two tape measures can help expedite the process. Measurements are listed in column format as shown. Measurements should be accurate to a quarter inch. 5. reate a freehand sketch of the pool. clude pool orientation, - line location, hopper, and steps on the final drawing. ross dimensions are recommended to check the accuracy of the result. photo of the pool is needed for unusual bottoms and complex steps.
