7 Indian Standard SPECIFICATION FOR CARD GAUGES ( First Revision ) IS: FOREWORD 0.1 This Indian Standard ( First Revision ) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on 6 July 1987, after the draft finalized by the Spinning Machinery ( Cotton System ) Sectional Committee had been approved by the Textile Division Council. 0.2 This standard, originally published in 1972, has been revised to align dimensions, thickness and gauge number with IS Textile machinery and accessories - Card gauges issued by the International Organization for Standardization ( IS0 ). ~0.3 For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standard is complied with, the final value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test, shall be rounded off in accordance with IS : The number of significant places retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard. 1. SCOPE 1.1 This standard prescribes the requirements for two types of card gauges currently used to set the distance between the working elements of cards. 2. MATERIAL 2.1 The gauges shall be made from suitable materia1 so as to attain hardness of 55 to 60 HRC. 3. WORKMANSHIP AND FINISH 3.1 The gauges shall have smooth scratch-resistant surface with ground and lapped finish. The gauges shall be flexible. *Rules for rounding off numerical values ( revised ). 3

8 IS : i TYPES 4.1 Th e gauges shall be of two types asshown in Fig. 1 and 2. The dimensions of Type A gauges used for setting of elements, other than flats to the cylinder, shall be as given in Table 1. The dimensions of Type B gauges normally used for setting flats to the cylinder shall be as shown in Fig. 2. The thickness of the gauges specified in co1 2 of Table 2 shall be within the tolerances specified in co1 3 of Table 2. Top gauge shall ~also be marked with the manufacturer s name or trade-mark. 5

10 6.1.1 The gauges may also be marked with the Standard Mark. NOTE - The use of the Standard Mark is governed by the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 and the Ruler and Regulations made thereunder. The Standard Mark on products covered by an Indian Standard conveys the assurance that they have been produced to comply with the requirements of that standard under a well defined system of inspection, testing and quality control which is devised and supervised by BIS and operated by the producer. Standard marked products are also continuously checked by BIS for conformity to that standard as a further safeguard. Details of conditions under which a licence for the use of the Standard Mark may be granted to manufacturers or producers may be obtained from the Bureau of Indian Standards. 7. PACKING 7.1 The gauges shall be coated with rust-preventive agent and wrapped in oil paper. 6
