3 Williamstown High School Williamstown, New Jersey Industrial Technology Education Philosophy The Industrial Technology is an area of study that helps students become technologically literate. Through classroom lessons and lab activities, students learn about the technical, social and cultural impacts of technology in our world. Students acquire a new vocabulary that helps them to better express their knowledge of technology. Likewise, their hands-on experiences in technology education teach them how to use tools and equipment while applying safety principles to accomplish technical tasks. Students will use critical thinking, decision making and problem solving skills to create drawings and products. Students will be exposed to various careers and develop workplace readiness skills. The goal of the Industrial Technology Education Department is to also develop self-management skills and self-pride in each student. Students should be convinced of what they will need to know for the next century and be prepared to enter the work force directly with marketable skills or to further their education when they graduate.

4 Williamstown High School Williamstown, New Jersey Purpose Statement Manufacturing Technology III & IV Manufacturing Technology 3 & 4 is the third and fourth class in the four year Manufacturing track. The primary purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to explore in more detail the area of Manufacturing Tools, Materials and processes used in manufacturing. Students will continue to expand on safety concerns and issues regarding the effects of manufacturing on society. The students will participate in hands on learning activities from organizing a company to producing and marketing a product. It is the intent of this course to also teach basic skills in the area of machining and welding necessary for repairs and manufacturing occupations. Computers will be utilized for design and the control of machines, robots and manufacturing process. Various projects will be made to demonstrate the student's ability to solve problems as well as operate machinery and equipment. Students will develop career skills and safe working practices. Various occupations in related fields will be explored. The Manufacturing 4 students will work on more advanced projects in CNC, Robotics, Product Engineering and Manufacturing Processes.

5 Williamstown High School Williamstown, New Jersey COURSE PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS Course: Manufacturing Technology II & IV Teacher: Staff Credits: 5 Weighted for Class Rank: No Pursuant to the High School Graduation Standards Act (NJSA 18A:7, et. seq) successful completion of this course will require: A. Regular attendance as mandated by Board Policy. B. Mastery of the below content/objectives and achievement of the proficiencies required. Overview: Manufacturing Technology III & IV is designed to be a follow up course to Manufacturing Technology 1. Students will improve and expand their skills using metalworking, woodworking, and plastic working hand tools. Students will also develop skills and safety procedure with power tools. The course will introduce metalworking, woodworking, and plastic working machinery used in industry. Students will also be introduced to various types of welding equipment. The students are expected to develop skills in the shop activities which can be used as leisure or vocational pursuits. Students will design a product, research and develop the product and produce the product using manufacturing system. Students will also construct projects that will enable them to experience the areas of foundry, injection molding, vacuum forming and other various manufacturing processes. Students will work wth computers to plan and construct various products. The skills obtained in this course will prepare the students for Manufacturing 3 when the students will have more hands on time to develop and refine techniques. Proficiencies: Upon Completion of this course the student will be able to: 1. Describe historical events and developments contributing to modern manufacturing. 2. Describe a manufacturing enterprise and discuss the various systems that comprise this entity. 3. Distinguish between manufacturing materials, properties, and method of identifying and testing them. 4. Distinguish the major manufacturing processes and select appropriate processes for producing a manufactured product. 5. List factors used in identifying and designing a manufacturing product and distinguish between the divisions in a manufacturing firm that performs these tasks. 6. Distinguish between the various stages in product manufacturing and list factors that must be considered when deciding how a product should be manufactured. 7. Design a package and an advertisement to market the class s product.

6 8. Dissolve and evaluate their student enterprise. 9. Demonstrate the safe use of hand tools and power tools. 10. Demonstrate safe working habits and good housekeeping. 11. Demonstrate the proper use of utilizing metal, wood and plastic machinery. 12. Demonstrate the proper setup and operation of various welding equipment. 13. Students will develop an awareness of careers related to the content of this course of study. Career/Objectives: Explore career opportunities in the field of manufacturing and related areas. Measurement of Student Achievement: Achievement in Manufacturing 2 is measured by tests, quizzes, assignments, homework, and manual performance. The letter grade will be according to Board Policy.
