18 DIRECTIONS: Spring and Summer start making us think about warm temperatures. But do you know how hot 30 o C is, or if it is hotter or colder than 85 o F? The two formulas listed below can convert Fahrenheit to Celsius or Celsius to Fahrenheit. 1. If you know the degrees in Fahrenheit, use this formula to find the degrees in Celsius. C = (F 32) x 5/9, so if F=59 o, C = (59 32) x 5/9 = 15 o 2. If you know the degrees in Celsius, use this formula to find the degrees in Fahrenheit. F = C x 9/5 + 32, so if C = 15 o, F = 15 x 9/ = 59 o Below are six temperatures, some in degrees Fahrenheit, some in degrees Celsius. Your job is to put the temperatures in order from coldest to hottest, using the formulas to help you. H. 5º C M. 35º C R. 86º F T. 14º F E. 68º F O. 40º C Put the temperatures in order on these lines, but instead of writing down the temperatures, write the letters that are next to each temperature. COLDEST HOTTEST Using the letters on the six lines above, fill in the matching letters below and you should spell a word that has something to do with temperature Bonus: Is there a temperature where the number is the same in both degrees Fahrenheit and Celsius? Try to find it.
