4 The Birth of a Butterfly The beginning of OUR Journey Journey emerged from his chrysalis to the amazement and wonder of Sisters Middle School students on September 16, He was named Journey by Kellen Werts and encouraged to go make history upon his release on September 17, Little did any of us know
5 The Long Migration Journey was released on September 17, 2017 from Sisters, Oregon. He was discovered 55 days later by Joe Billings, a Citizen Scientist, who found him on November 11, Journey flew over 700 miles, averaging miles per day, to Southern California. Journey is the first tagged Monarch out of Central Oregon to to be recovered in California. ionid=8&s=1
6 Overwintering in Carpinteria Journey holds the record for longest distance traveled by an Oregon Monarch and Carpinteria is to date the furthest south that a PNW-tagged Monarch has been found since tagging began in He is featured in the UFW Blog and in a scientific article written by David G. 8 Book Project Highlights First Book on the Western Monarch Migration The book, entitled Journey s Flight, One Western Monarch Butterfly s Record-Setting Migration will include eleven chapters written and illustrated by Sisters Middle/High School students. Each student will choose a town between Sisters and Carpentaria where Journey would have stopped in his migration, developing a story about what he would have seen or where in the town he would have gone while resting up for the next leg of his migration.
