2 I. Executive Summary June marked the end of the Museum s fiscal year. Some highlights for FY 12/13 include: Delivered Museum class field trips to over 3800 students. Provided community Science Saturdays enjoyed by over 7,000 people. Worked with the Pacific Grove Business Improvement District, the Pacific Grove Heritage Society, the City of Pacific Grove, and Pacific Grove businesses, to implement a Pacific Grove Heritage Walk. Hired new Outreach Program Manager who has launched formal new volunteer training program and recruited new volunteers to the Museum increasing our volunteer force by at least 10%. Added elements to the Native Plant garden initial path lighting, and introductory sign, and new landscaping in the front garden. Implemented Long-Term Monitoring Program for Experiential Training for Students (LiMPETS) in support of the entire Monterey Marine Sanctuary with almost 2,600 students participating. Obtained funding for and launched a new Monarch Citizen Science program based on the LiMPETS citizen science model. New Monarch program brings middle school and high school students to the Monarch Grove Sanctuary in Pacific Grove to perform monarch population counts and collect various scientific data. Worked with CSUMB to have a web data tool created to hold this data for scientists to use. Participated in the Monterey Experience, a project with area cultural leaders to develop stronger cultural messaging, social media presence, and cross-promotional projects. Implemented a new collaborative 3 rd and 4 th grade education program with the Monterey Museum of Art. Joined the Monterey County Collections Round Table and hosted one of the meetings on emergency plans. Identified and hired a bird conservator and began conservation of the Museum s bird collection. Obtained environmental monitoring software to assist in analyzing the Museum s temperature and humidity levels to fine specificity. II. 3 III. Exhibitions Exhibits Special Exhibitions Deinstalled Illustrating Nature exhibit and returned artwork to lenders. Updated exhibit and loan files. Returned exhibit elements used in Illustrating Nature to MVSEVM exhibit. Permanent Exhibitions Added new deer antlers to Mountain Lion exhibit case in lobby. Re-installed Chinese Fishing Village in main exhibit hall. IV. Education Education School Group Visits YMCA Summer Camp, K-1 st grade, 16 students YMCA Summer Camp, 2 nd -4 th grade, 15 students YMCA Summer Camp, 5 th -8 th grade, 10 students Pt. Organizational Updates Organizational Updates Board of Directors Mary Anne Teed-Lloyd resigned for the Board of Directors for personal reasons. She has great enthusiasm for the mission, the organization, its 130 year history, and our wonderful staff but personal duty calls her away. We offer our heartfelt thanks to Mary Anne for her service to the Museum and to the community. VII. 5 VIII. Collections Conservation & Collections Management Completed 2013 rotating inventory. Deinstalled Illustrating Nature exhibit and returned artwork to lenders. Updated exhibit and loan files. Returned exhibit elements used in Illustrating Nature to MVSEVM exhibit. Photographed all birds treated by conservator Tonja Morris and integrated photos into PastPerfect database. Began project of recording information from old Museum scrapbooks with Museum intern Jennifer Leman. Began to record findings with relevant records in database. Began connecting database records with relevant biographical information. Re-installed Chinese Fishing Village in main exhibit hall. Monthly check of Temperature/relative humidity levels and pest activity. Some areas of concern noted. Acquired subscription to eclimate notebook to take full advantage of the analytic software and scheduled a Conservation Assessment Program evaluation to assist creating a comprehensive Museum Conservation Plan. Continued weekly walkthrough of collection area with Vern Yadon. Usual upkeep and maintenance of exhibits. Photographed Albert derome paintings. Added new deer antlers to Mountain Lion exhibit case in lobby. Conservation Began initial phase of bird conservation treatment with conservator Tonja Morris. Created conservation treatment records for all bird from initial phase of bird conservation. Integrated all information into PastPerfect database. Replaced Para dichlorobenzene in main gallery exhibit cases and herbarium cases. IX.
