1 Andalucian Bird Checklist IUCN Red List Category LC Least Concern NT Near Threatened VU Vulnerable EN Endangered CR Critically Endangered EX Extinct DD Data Deficient Andalucía Status A Observed since 1950 B Observed prior to 1950 but not since C Introduced, established breeding D Unknown origin E Escape / Introduced * Rarity description required by ABS Considered race to scare in Andalucía The order of birds used in this list follows the IOC World Bird List English names used are those most commonly in use and therefore recognisable by the majority of birdwatchers. The list has been compiled by Peter Jones, a nature guide based close to Ronda, who leads groups and individuals throughout the province. He also leads guided tours to other parts of Spain, Morocco and many other destinations worldwide. The author can not speak too highly of Peter s birding excursions. A natural communicator, Peter has that rare ability of conveying specialist knowledge in a way that s accessible to one and all. A day in his company offers a unique insight into the extraordinarily diverse birdlife of southern Spain and would dovetail perfectly with your walks in and around Ronda and Grazalema. To contact Peter either pr.p.jones@gmail.com or visit Andalucia Bird Society is a great resource for exchanging and or getting information on many aspects of birding here in southern Spain. If you intend visiting this area, then an open and free forum allows you to contact locals on specific site or species information. Contibute to their database and conservation efforts by submitting your vacation trip reports or sightings to the society.
