11 BAY Restoration Objectives Beneficial-Use Recreate nesting, foraging and nursery habitat. Restore/Replace some of the 10,500 acres of island habitat lost in the past 150 years.
12 PIERP Restoration Project The Poplar Island Environmental Restoration Project (PIERP) utilizes dredged material from the Bay s federal navigation channels in a beneficial way. PIERP restores the footprint of the island circa de In 1998 remnant islands were reduced to only 5 ac. 50% of the footprint is to be tidal wetland 50% is to be upland, totaling 1140 acres.
