PEREGRINE FALCON (Falco peregrinus) IDENTIFICATION Male: cm; female: cm. Adults with grey upperparts; pale underparts with fine streaking; dark head with broad moustache; dark grey tail, with dark bands; long and pointed wings; dark eyes; yellow legs. Juveniles with rufous and streaked underparts. Hobby SEXING All ages can be sexed by size; male with wing shorter than 300 mm; female with wing longer than 320 mm. Falcon. Adult: pattern of head and breast. AGEING 3 types of age can be recognized: Juvenile with feathers on upperparts brown with rufous edge (missed early by wear): rufous breast with dark brown streaks; tail feathers with pale tips and rufous bars; grey bluish ocular ring and legs. 2nd year autumn/3rd year spring with juvenile brown feathers on upperparts and/or wing coverts admixed with grey adult pattern. Adult with grey upperparts; breast with fine lateral streaking; tail feathers without pale tip; yellow ocular ring and legs. Falcon. Juvenile: pattern of head and breast. Falcon. Ageing.
